Tibi also uses his Gift of the Chromatic dragon to give himself resistance from the fire damage meaning he only takes 17 of fire damage from the exploding Balor.

As the killing blow strikes the Balor you realize that the fiend knew it was going to die and positioned itself to do the most damage as it exploded! Fire and heat pushed out from where the creature was just a moment before.
Tibi, quick on the wing, is able to avoid most of the damage and is still up. Drabash, protected by the Death Ward still stands. Kaelani and Moses are both knocked off their feet and fall to the ground unconscious.
A moment of silence passes as Tibi and Drabash look around to see that most of the fighting around them was done. Only a couple small melees continued, but the assault on the High Hall had been fended off.
Tibi, knowing Kaelani had a potion of healing, quickly grabs it and pours it into Kaelani's mouth, the potion's red liquid glimmering. Kaelani sputters and sits up 15
Pherria Jynks runs up with Ulder Ravenguard and Reya Mantlemorn. Their swords dripping with blood, their armor smeared with gore. Pherria kneels next to Moses and casts Cure Wounds on him for 6 bringing him back to consciousness as well.
Ravenguard speaks. "We tried to come to your aid, but we had to fend off the remainder of the assault. It was hard fought. That was a mighty creature you fell."
Reya is about to speak as well when a sudden rushing sound is heard. You all look up and floating in the air some 50 feet away is one you recognize, Zariel
"So you have destroyed my armies and defeated my champion. But you will never leave this place. Your souls will forever be held here in Avernus" she says in a powerful voice
As she approaches closer Lulu flies up to you and speaks quickly and excitedly to Kaelani "You must entreat her to redeem her angelic soul and take up her celestial mantle once more. There is a glimmer of hope for her salvation. Convince her to accept the angelic spark back into her soul."
Kaelani is filled with hopeful emotion that comes from the sentient sword of Zariel. He knows from that feeling that a fragment of the devil’s former self still lingers within her sword.
As Zariel gets closer the sword of Zariel glows brighter and then suddenly flies from Kaelani's grip to hover before her. Kaelani can feel the force of Zariel's will through the sword and knows that Zariel faces an internal struggle.
Zariel stops short and looks at the sword and then looks at you. "What is is this game you play?" she bellows
Kaelani, make your argument, if you so choose, to Zariel on why she should take back her sword and redeem her angelic self. Everyone else can also make arguments to help him if they want.
Kaelani, also roll a Persuasion check, with advantage
TIbi says in aside to Drabash "I thought Demons and Devils hated each other. So what was she doing as an Arch Devil with a Demon as her personal champion?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kaelani mumbles a quick prayer to his patron and goddess, entreating her for the right words to speak (casting Guidance on myself!) He focuses his thoughts, and then speaks in a gentle voice to Zariel.
"The evil in your mind speaks a dead language that means nothing to you; your true self - your angelic self - speaks your mother tongue, and you hang on every word. You can be dead to evil and alive to God again! You must not give evil a vote anymore. Don’t give it the time of day. Don’t even let it run little patterns in your mind that are connected with that old way of life. Throw yourself wholeheartedly and full-time (remember, you’ve been raised from the dead!) into our God’s way of doing things. Evil can’t tell you how to live. After all, you can choose not to live under that old tyranny any longer. You can live in the freedom of God!
If you offer yourself to evil, it’s your last free act. But offer yourself to the goodness of your angelic soul and the freedom never quits. For so long you’ve let evil tell you what to do. But thank God you’ve started listening to a new master, one whose commands can set you free to live openly in his freedom! You can return to a whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way! Your hard work for evil only gives a pension of death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by our Master.
Embrace the sword and your angelic soul - reclaim your place in the heavenly hosts!"- based on Romans 6

Drabash responds to Tibi, "I know naught of such things. If she chose a demon as her champion, then perhaps they were simply the best available - though as you can see, they weren't good enough...".
To Zariel, Drabash speaks up "MiLady, As you can see there are people in this world who will fight together for the Good and Holy. I can see you still have that glimmer and yearning to return to your former angelic self. Redeem yourself and take up the sword for good once again. We will assist you to do what must be done."

Tirohia te Moana - Level 2 Cleric - What shall we do with the Drunken Sailor?
Ebonitus de Viribus - Level 4 Cleric - The Storm King's Thunder - The Gods Respond.
Moses's conscious swims up out of the darkness, and he gasps in a deep breath. Blinking, the blue-scaled dragonborn looks up at the face of Pherria Jynks. His mind begins to race, replaying his last bits of memory concerning the battle, but then the voice of Zariel cuts into his consciousness. He sits up, concerned. But as Kaelani entreats with the imposing figure hovering above the battlefield, Moses is taken aback. Is this Yahweh of whom Kaelani speaks? Does he know the great I Am?
Moses gets to his feet, leaning heavily upon his staff, and steps forward. Following Drabash's encouragement to Zariel, the cleric adds, "I, too, ran from Yahweh. I turned my back on my people and ignored their suffering. Who am I to stand up the dragons of Laerakond? But what kind of example was I showing to my offspring? It took a burning bush and the voice of Yahweh to turn my head. To tell me that I can be more if I put my faith in Him. And I have to be more! Because He is the only way! All else is a lie! If you know the truth, you know the lie. Listen to the truth! Listen for the voice of the great I Am."
Tibi says to Drabash with a derisive tone "you're right you know naught of such things! You were born a brawler and you'll die a brawler, yet here you are pretending you're some sort of cleric type and can convince a devil to change its spots!"
Kaelani can feel the struggle that fills Zariel as the sword continues to fill him with the struggling emotions that Zariel feels. But then he senses something different, the softening of her heart as if from stone to flesh.
Zariel’s trembling hand reaches toward the gleaming hilt of her sword. Her fingers brush against it, and she grimaces as radiant light sears her flesh. As her grip tightens, she gasps in pain, then speaks an oath through tears of confusion, sorrow, and dawning joy.
“I, Zariel, supplicate myself before the holy light of justice. If it should accept me, I vow to take up this blade once more in its service.”
The archdevil’s words hang in the air for a silent moment, and she glances upward in agonized uncertainty. Then Zariel is bathed in a brilliant wash of radiant light. Her fiery halo disappears, and feathers burst from her leathery wings. All of her diabolical features vanish as her angelic form is restored. At the sight of this blessed transformation, Lulu gasps in delight — and transforms into a celestial mammoth with golden fur, feathered wings, and gleaming tusks.
Zariel holds the sword before her. She then looks down at you. "Thank you. For your service, for your faith, for your belief. You have journeyed far and suffered much, but you have helped set this tortured soul free."
She then looks around and sees the city of Elturel. Looking up she sees The Companion, that strange disc that sits in the sky.
Zariel suddenly launches into the air and soars above Elturel to within reach of the corrupted Companion. She closes her eyes, raises her sword above her head, takes a deep, centering breath, and brings the blade down. Striking the orb with the sword causes the Companion to ring like a bell and then shatter, sounding out an angelic tone that can be heard with perfect clarity across the infinite breadth of Avernus. The Companion then explodes in a flash of light and sound,
With the destruction of the Companion, the people of Elturel are freed from infernal bondage. The planetar imprisoned within the Companion raises the city out of the Nine Hells and returns it to Faerûn.
The Chionthar River shines like a golden road stretching from Elturel to Baldur’s Gate, and to the sea beyond. The scent of morning dew cuts through the odor of smoke, brimstone, and rot that clings to Elturel’s stones.
Slowly, the people of the city make their way out from their hiding places to stand in the light of the mortal world once more. All eyes focus on Zariel where she stands, sword in hand. The planetar that raised Elturel out of Avernus kneels before her. Lulu nudges Zariel, then gestures toward you with her trunk. Zariel strides toward you, bowing her head in solemn gratitude. “This dark chapter has at last come to an end, and it is a brighter end than I ever dared to hope for. Thank you. Your selflessness will live on in my memory forever.”
“And in mine!” Lulu says, beaming.
Zariel inclines her head, unfurls her wings, and soars into the sky. Lulu turns to wrap you all up in a massive hug with her trunk. When she lets you go, she smiles warmly and says, “Perhaps we’ll see each other again. Someday.”
The golden mammoth then flaps her wings and soars into the sky. You watch her silhouette dwindle until it is swallowed by sunlight.
You find plenty to do in the city, aiding survivors and helping restore order in the aftermath of so much death and destruction. In addition to the leadership and magic you can lend to the people of Elturel, the planetar once bound within the Companion remains in the city for as long as it is needed, using its ability to raise the dead to restore as many of those lost to the destruction as it can.
Reya Mantlemorn is not one to forget the deal that you made so long ago as she hired you to help her save the city.
"As I recall, it was 1500 gold pieces each and your chapter of Acquisitions Inc holds include exclusive rights for mercenary work on behalf of the Hellriders for a period of five years and a day, starting the day after the city was restored."
In time, the city leaders also bequeath you a small castle building within the city to you to use as a base of operations, all expenses of upkeep paid by the city.
Well friends, it has been almost 3 1/2 years since this game started. We started first with Hunt for the Thessalhydra and then Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus.
It has been a lot of fun and I hoped you enjoyed the game as much as I have.
Moses spends the next few weeks aiding in the recovery of the city and helping put its people back on the course to normal livelihood. In the end, however, he has his own task set before him. He bids good-bye to Cracticus, Drabash and Kaelani and ventures forth to find a ship that will take him back to Laerakond. His people need to hear the truth and to be set free.
Thanks, all — especially Paladin for all of your work.
