Soar says through a similar clenched teeth smile that this is what champions sign up for, and applause is something the people needed.
There's actually no trace of sarcasm or resentment or wounded pride to her cheers for Jalt. She's genuinely happy for him and content to let him take the mantle.
Soar will go over and catch up with Jasa and (per my earlier post) ask her about payment for the guard duty that brought them to Greenest.
"Great to see your face, Jasa! And I'm so glad your family is safe. By the way what were you transporting in your caravan? I'm guessing it's a welcome arrival for this poor town!"
She will also do the rest of the things she wanted to do (in the earlier post): help bury and offer rites to wh fallen, retrieve any javelins she can find, go out to the site of their earlier skirmishes and search the bodies for valuables and interesting identifying items/papers.
While everyone is cheering for them, Breena is beaming. She waves and smiles, generally pleased to be recognized and not minding the attention like the others seem to. She'll also be happy to let any grateful citizen buy her a drink, should they so choose.
"Jasa! I'm glad you're alright. Did you see the dragon? It was huge! I shot it with arrows and I might as well have been blowing bubbles at it. No one's going to believe this back home."
Jalt looks at Jasa and smiles. Thankful that you kept outside of the city. It was an awful time here. But we managed to do some good in here. And this one... points to Breena. She was so brave out there. They all were. Im just sorry we couldn't save everyone.

Elspeth is rather unnerved by the cheers from the townsfolk, and does her best to fade into the background, managing a small wave and a smile. She is rather relieved when she spots Jasa waving them over, and is quick to follow her friends over.
"Jasa! Gladd to see you're well after last night. You managed to stay out of this mess, right?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Elspeth and Breena, Jasa nods at your questions. I kept my people safe, as safe as I could, where you left us. Aye, we saw the dragon; it pretty much flew right over us as it finally left. You drove it off, if what I'm hearing is true.
She smiles at Soar. To business, eh? A woman after my own heart. She reaches into her pocket and draws out a small bag, handing it to Soar. We agreed a price of five gold each for the escort to Greenest. There's a hundred gold in that bag, all my profit from this trip, and you're welcome to it. She reaches down and picks up her niece. Thank you. I'll be staying in town for a while now, catching up with folks, helping out with the repairs. Come and see me any time. Her family nods, and they set off from the keep with Jasa's caravan too, no doubt making their way towards the part of town where they live.
Soar, you are able to find 4 javelins in good condition, one your own and the others perhaps from the town, though the guards insist you can keep whatever you like. The guards are dealing with the bodies of the fallen; they have already been searched, and you are assured that any interesting items have been sent for the castellan to inspect. Brother Eadyan welcomes your assistance, and you assist in the rites for some of those who fell trying to reach the cathedral.
Elspeth, you spend some hours helping out in the infirmary, which has expanded to several rooms as injured folk from the town are brought to the keep and into Lasani's care. Your aid is much appreciated, and your presence, as one of the heroes who saved the town, is reassuring to all.
Breena, several guards, finally let of duty to get some rest, invite you to drink with them. It's a quick drink; they're under instructions to get to their beds soon, as the next day will be busy too, but you enjoy the company and find that you all lift each others' spirits. They are definitely a little bit in awe of you though.
Jalt waves goodbye to Jasa. Well, I dont know about the rest of you. But we should go talk to the governor and see if they plan on going after Cyanwrath and his men. If they attacked Greenest, why? And will this be the first of other attacks here or elsewhere.

Soar smiles at Jasa and says, "well, there were others who managed better shots than I, in fact I'd better go try to find some of my javelins that didn't find a mark, and by that I mean all of them."When she offers the 100 gold, she says, "thank you, that is very generous of you -- I won't commit to accepting more than just my agreed-upon payment for services rendered, but will let my compatriots decide if we are keeping the extra gold. I'm so happy to see your and yours are safe, Jasa." (Are we keeping all of the gold? Soar won't refuse, but she feels bad taking all of Jasa's profit.)
She's delighted to find more javelins than she arrived with, taking some time to repair any nicks or cracks in them and bundling the extras to her pack. She is more than happy to help Brother Eaydan. She asks him what the temple looks like if he's had a chance to inspect it.
When she returns to her friends (and she will happily share a pint with Badger) and Jalt mentions wanting to talk to the governor, she agrees, saying, "I've been keeping an eye out for the governor and the castellan today, wanting to ask some of those same questions, but haven't had any luck finding them. I'd like to know if help from elsewhere is on the way, and yes, if they know anything about where the cultists went and what they wanted."
She looks at each of them in turn, grasping shoulders and smiling encouragingly.
"What's our plan, friends? Are we done here, or do you want to seek some justice for Greenest, and try to find out more about the threat and end it if we can? I want justice, and I'm worried about what will happen to this town and others if the cult is allowed to roam freely and attack again."
Have we heard if there are stores in Greenest and if they are open?
Jalt looks to Soar and I would imagine she would be able to predict the next few words coming out of his mouth. We seek justice for Greenest. We slay Cyanwrath and then we find whomever is behind this. That's my plan.He nods emphatically. I think its a great plan.He motions to Breena. Come little one, let us find the governor and continue writing the great story of Badger. Jalt will start walking and hoping he finds anyone who might have an idea where the Governor is.

"Honestly, I don't care much about the money but if we're going after Cynwrath and the cult and the queen...it might be good to have enough funding for supplies and all that. This town has been taking good care of us, but they're rebuilding, we can't count on them for everything. We could split it with Jasa fifty-fifty, though... I don't feel great about taking everything." Badger says, then nods to Jalt. "I really should write some of this down, huh? It's pretty epic."
Elspeth, somewhat tired out from her work but nevertheless pleased with what she's managed to achieve, returns to her companions. Prompted by Jalt's suggestionm she speaks up,"I want to help the town rebuild. Not revenge, per se, but to bring some peace of mind to the townspeople. If the Governor wants our help then I feel we should do our best for the town. I don't see why we shouldn't go after Cyanwrath. They took a lot of the town's possessions, which they'll need if they want to rebuild." She peers up at the sky, trying to gain a rough gauge of the time. "The governor said he'll be at the keep by sundown, right? If he's there now, we can speak with him about our next steps."
"That's a great idea, Badger, fifty-fifty, literally! Jasa gets 50 and we get 50, 12.5 apiece. She gets to keep some profit and hopefully invest some in this town and what they need to rebuild, and we get a raise for our troubles. Very smart." Soar says, before Jasa leaves. "By the way, did we ever split up the gold and gems we got from those cultists?"
She says to Jalt, "I want to read the story of Badger. What are the first few chapters? How did you two end up meeting?"
Soar smiles at Elspeth, agreeing with every word she says. "Bringing the stolen goods back to this town and taking down some evil in the world sounds like a great day to me! Let's go find the governor or the castellan and ask them a bunch of questions."
You haven't heard anything of the stores of Greenest; in a small town this size, there are probably a few, but not many.
It's now close to sundown; Jalt, you can find a guard who will tell you that the governor is in an office, meeting with the castellan; you follow his directions and soon arrive at a closed door with a guard who nods in greeting and opens the door to allow you all to enter.
The office is plain, with a large wooden desk and several chairs; you get the sense it's not the governor's usual place of work. Escobert and Governor Nighthill are sitting together, talking and going through some documents. Both stand up as you enter, and greet you warmly. My friends, the governor says, I am glad to see you rested. Please, sit down; there is much to discuss.
Jalt remains standing and lets the other sit. I have rested enough, thanks to your healer. I will stand if you dont mind. What is it that we can help with? What are your plans?

Soar thanks the governor for the warm welcome, and sits down, clanking noisily in her armor as she settles into the chair.
"How are you, governor? How is Greenest? How are the hostages doing after some rest? We talked with Jasa, which was a relief," she says with a smile. "We also wanted to know if help was on the way to strengthen Greenest's defenses and to root out this cult now that it's proved to be so dangerous. In the meantime, though, what do we know about where they went? What lies in that direction? And do we know anything more about what they were here for other than pillaging? Has Tored's tongue loosened at all? What would be most helpful for us to do? We seek justice for Greenest and none of us sit comfortably while cretins like Cyanworth are roaming about."
There is nothing more we need from you in town, the governor replies. You have already given enough, and at this moment, I have nothing to reward you with. Every coin has been sent to neighbouring towns to pay for aid, for food, for labour to help rebuild. In a little while, I will be able to do more. And in a little while, I hope to hold a proper ceremony honouring you as heroes of Greenest. For the moment, we can pay you only in equipment and these; he holds out two more bottles, each a Potion of Healing.
(The various shops and craftsmen in the town will give you anything you want from the adventuring gear list in the Player's Handbook, up to a total value of 50 gold for the whole party.)
A messenger has been sent to Beregost, and funds will be on their way soon. But I have a task for you now, beyond the town. The prisoner you took has told us of the location of their camp. I would ask you to scout it, and perhaps infiltrate it and discover the answers to more questions than Master Tored can answer. How many raiders are there? Who are their leaders? Why have they attacked us? Where will they attack next?
If you can find answers to these questions, I will pay you two hundred and fifty gold pieces each. And do not attempt to refuse this, Lady Soar; you are heroes, and heroes have expenses. I wish only I could pay you now, for my trust in you is complete.
He frowns as he looks over you. The reward is significant, because the risks are great. I am told by my guards that one or two dragonborn and gnomes were spotted among the ranks of the enemy this night, but very few. More tieflings, but no Aasimar. You will have no easy challenge to infiltrate, if you decide to do so. Perhaps you can capture someone more knowledgeable than Tored from outside the camp; I believe he has told us most of what he knows, but he is a grunt and a hireling, and I doubt was trusted with any vital information.
Tarbaw, says the Castellan, and you remember that this is the governor's first name; why don't you let our guests catch their breath. I'm sure they have question to ask. The red-haired dwarf grins at you ruefully. Four hours of sleep, the man has had, and he's as full of energy as a five-year old. It was all I could do to stop him chasing down the raiders himself.
"Thank you, governor, that is very generous. Speaking just for myself, I am completely on board with this scouting mission. Can you tell us about the area in which their camp is likely located, and what's between here and there? Have you heard from any towns or smaller settlements in that area?"
She looks at Escobert.
"We might want to look into some disguises, I'll have to see if anyone in town has armor that isn't so.... death knight Kelemvor-y. I'm guessing they'll be able to recognize it by now. Have you been able to get any uniforms or anything off the fallen cult members? That might be an option, pretending to be part of the gang. I think I can swing some additional magic than I've normally been comfortable with, but nothing that would help hide or conceal us. Elspeth? Breena? Jalt? Any thoughts? Or we could just dress in normal clothing and pretend to be refugees who have heard of the might of this Queen person. Or we could do our best to stay out of sight, and eliminate guards one by one. I'm not very sneaky, so I'm a bit out of my element if we're being honest."
We can certainly provide you with armour from the fallen raiders, says Escobert nodding. That's a good idea. It's all leather, though - no chain or plate. Just make sure you don't get into an actual fight.
We've heard nothing from other towns or villages nearby, not yet. There's nothing special in the area where Tored claims their camp is located. It's wildlands, and bandits have been known to make their hideouts there in the past.
"Yes, gathering information seems to be the best course of action for now."Elspeth nods, moving a little closer as she grows more interested, "If there's many tieflings among them, I should be able to fit in fine. Jalt, on the other hand." She shrugs. "I think that more than just disguises would be necessary. Do you think we can try and capture a few of the guards near the edges? If we do that, there’ll be no guarantee we can find the ones who know the information we want.”
Soar says through a similar clenched teeth smile that this is what champions sign up for, and applause is something the people needed.
