This room was once a library, with bookshelves around the walls. Most of the shelves are broken, and in many places they have come away from the wall. The few shelves still intact are empty, but a pile of books rests in the southwest corner.
The fourteen books in the heap untidily thrown into the corner are covered with cobwebs, vermin droppings, and harmless mold. All are partially ruined but are still legible.

“I’m doing fine, thank you.” Rober moves to the pile of books and glances at the titles in curiosity. Then he does a check if the room for anything of value and also for secret doors and the like.
Feanaro notices Rober's attentions, "I have a wand of secrets that I plan to use once we have cleared the house. I appreciate that you are stepping up to find things which may be hidden though, it shows you are dedicated to our endeavor."
“A wand of secrets, sir? That sounds very useful. May I ask why you are waiting until we clear the house? Would it not be more efficient to clear the rooms as we go?” Rober speaks respectfully, his clear and simple curiosity evident.
"A valid question. Though it has multiple charges, it has a limited duration. I would hate to use it only for it to lead us in to danger where we can not thoroughly and safely investigate," Feanaro shows honest happiness with the question.
Rober moves back to the pile of books, squats down and begins the to look over the books, using gloves while he checks the titles and learns what he can.
"It has a range of approximately thirty feet and has three charges. Each use will take me to the nearest secret," Feanaro says gladly accepting the attention his crafting has provided him.
"Well, I told ya what happened already. The smugglers were using the house as a base to run there goods to the lizardfolk. Also, poke everything with a long stick if I was you. The rooms we enter in to had giant bugs lurking around. I do believe most of the house was just a cover-up for the bandits base downstairs. I doubt the stored much up here," says Orgen staying to the front of the group.
Ash follows the rest of the group, scribbling notes about the bug and the bandits in the house. "So much for a haunted house. Is there information about why the smugglers are running goods to the lizardfolk? Could anyone else in town be working for them?"

Feanaro nods along at what Ogren and Ash says. "You both are quite right. This house does seem to be just a cover but I feel it would hurt our new and untested reputation if we do not cover everything and a townie comes in and dies die to us overlooking something.
"That being said let me ensure this door is safe and then you can lead us boldly onward sir." He directs his attention from Ogren to the door.
Most of the books are dull (histories, collections of romantic poems, and so forth), but three are quite noteworthy. These three books bear clear titles on their spines:
The Magical Properties of Gemstones by the archmage Tenser The Magical Properties of Herbs and Flowers by the archmage Tenser The Metaphysics of Mathematics by the mage Nystul
The pile of books fall over when Alex pushes them. Nothing else happens.
Rober whistles softly as he reads the titles of the 3 books. “Even in their condition these could be worth something. Even with my limited training in wizardry I can see that.”
Wrapping them carefully in his sack, he stows them with equal care in his pack before standing and nodding to Feanaro. “If that door is safe, let us proceed.”
"Yes the door looks free of surprises. Also, quite right about those books, I am no jeweler or herbalist but perhaps they can help me or others on their way," Feanaro says approvingly.

As you continue onward, you find...

The fourteen books in the heap untidily thrown into the corner are covered with cobwebs, vermin droppings, and harmless mold. All are partially ruined but are still legible.
Another door leads onward from here.
Feanaro stands by, "Interesting collection but nothing that would speak to the goings on here I believe.
"How is everyone holding up? Questions? Concerns?"
“I’m doing fine, thank you.” Rober moves to the pile of books and glances at the titles in curiosity. Then he does a check if the room for anything of value and also for secret doors and the like.

“I wonder why that pile of books was tossed there to rot and not either kept with the others or thrown away.”
OOC: Hector doesn’t read or he would try to figure it out for himself.
“How many times can that wand be used per day? Also, how large of an area does it affect?”
OOC: Alex will push the pile of books over with telekinesis.
Rober moves back to the pile of books, squats down and begins the to look over the books, using gloves while he checks the titles and learns what he can.
