Elsie glances at Lily, then locks eyes with her, the corner of her mouth twitching as if she's not sure whether to smile or frown. Eventually, it smooths out into a straight face as she steps closer, waving to her as she closes in, taking a casual sip through the straw of her paper cup as she does.
"Lily!" she calls out, over the din.

The fresh air, warm sunshine, the people, the smells of food trucks, even the sounds of live music. For Brady there was no kind of day better than this; one where he could be outside the parish, spreading the word, and enjoying all of his God's creations. It would be better when his mission itinerary was approved, but for now he would have to settle for passing out fliers to Old St Mary's annual blood drive event. It was still nearly a month out, but Brady's schedule was otherwise empty for today and it gave him purpose.
"Excuse me! Please take a flier, giving blood saves lives!" Brady handed a flier out to some passerby's, but somewhere nearby he could hear the sounds of two fiddlers in contest, and it caught his attention. He started to make his way towards the gathered crowd around the musicians. As he passed by another group he held out a flier, "Old St. Mary's Annual Blood Drive, please think about attending"

Despite Elsie having trouble, Lily has none as she frowns back to her old classmate, and best friend. She could still hear the echos of their last argument reverberating in her head, could feel the memory of the hot tears stinging at her eyes before spilling down her cheeks. She turns, looks over her shoulder toward the carnival rides behind her. Lily wonders if she could play it off as if she didn't see her. Maybe Elsie would go away if she did.
She sighs and approaches her instead.
Lily was only slightly taller than how she was in high school, grown a couple inches to her 5'6" stature. Her hair was tied back into a ponytail now instead of free on her back, and her chest and torso was more pronounced, more mature and grown up. Oddly enough, Lily still wears the single pink star earring on her left lobe. Elsie would know that she had the other.
"Elsie," she says, then offers a half-hearted smile. "I didn't expect seeing you here."
Charlotte's stomach rumbled, reminding her that yes, in addition to sleep, food was one of the many inconviences of being a human being. She sighed, and left her spot overlooking the lake, heading back towards a food stall near the two fiddlers. The wind ruffled her hair as she stepped up to order. A few moments later, she left with a burger and a Coke, more out of a desperate need for caffine than a desire for a sugary drink. Out of the corner of her eye she saw two women having a conversation. Even from here I can feel that tense awkwardness. Yeesh. Can't blame people for being people, though, Charlotte thought as she bit into her burger. She heard a man shouting about a blood drive somewhere in the crowd as she returned to her original position, watching the fiddlers. Her eyes sidled over to the two women. I know it's rude to pry, but... I must admit I am curious. The student shifted her position slightly, moving within earshot of their conversation, her eyes fixed on the fiddlers the whole time.
(Great going so far! I've got nothing to add at this time, so keep up the good work. The other threads could learn a thing or three from all of you in terms of getting things rolling)

Lily frowns back toward Elsie, then looks around the fairgrounds for a moment. She does her best to look busy instead of being awkward with someone she wasn't quite sure how to feel about anymore. She wasn't sure if that was excitement or disgust and embarrassment she feels welling up in the back of her throat.
Lily Chan makes a Charisma (Deception) check! 1d20 + 3 = 6
Her passing gaze crosses over the woman staring at the two though, and she stops. She makes eye contact with her, looking over her eyes and her hair and how her cheekbones frames her face. It then occurs to her that she is staring back toward a woman who was staring at her, and she snaps out of her trance. Who was she and what was she doing staring at her?
Lily clears her throat out, then shoots a small smile over toward her. Seeing that she seems friendly enough, she waves a hand to invite her over.
Elsie glances back at her, taking the long pause to look over her form, almost appreciatively, her mouth curling up into its old smile, especially as her eyes flick over the earring. Taking a step forwards, she catches herself rather awkwardly, never the one to be calm and collected in a social situation, instead blustering and stumbling in an almost cute manner through conversations. Woe be to anyone who calls her cute, however.
"Well - well, everyone's here..." she stumbles off to a start, before pausing, the signs of a blush waiting in the wings before she continues. "...neither did I, really. I-It's good to... see you again."
The smile on her face isn't forced, instead wide and genuine as she grins at her. She repeats herself, more confident this time.
"It's good to see you again!"

Lily responds with a small smile of her own, watching Elsie blunder and stumble around in-front of her. Lily always had a knack for conversations and socializing, which was odd, considering her shy, almost avoidant personality. But then again, when you're caught in-between your natural persona and the push from an Asian family to do more, to do better, you tend to become a walking paradox.
"I see you're still your old, cute self,"she smirks, then runs her hand back to tuck her hair away. Lily remembers how much she hated being called that. So naturally as an ex-best friend, she took advantage of that whenever she could. "I keep telling you, you have to be part-cat or something. You act just like one whenever you try to talk to people."
The artist chuckles softly at the smile, turns her eyes away at the excitement in her voice. "Yeah it's," she hesitates, making sure they were the right words. "It's good to see you again Elsie."
"I really missed you," she accidentally says, then covers up her mouth. The words slips straight from her lips like butter.
Elsie steps forwards and reaches out her arms for a tight hug, closing her eyes at hearing it, sighing in relief.
"I thought..."she starts, before shaking her head, still in the hug, if Lily accepts it. "No, forget what I thought. Will you forgive me for being an ass?"
Her eyes shine with hope and life, her face brightening.
"And I'm not cute, damn it."she says, finally, the blushes waiting in the wings finally coming through.
She releases the hug and looks towards who Lily waved to.

Fiddle-off 13
The fiddle player challenging Rhodri is a stout, heavy man with a clean-shaven face and brown hair. He decides to try and steal the show with a rendition of The Devil Went Down To Georgia. However, when he got to the fiddle solo he flubbed spectacularly, causing him to quickly pack up and leave in shame amid laughter from the onlookers. The crowd fairly quickly disperses, however a couple stop by to chat with Rhodri about his music and where he picked up how to play. (Feel free to invent their side of the conversation if/when you reply)
Lily looks at the outstretched arms reluctantly, then looks away toward the woman who was staring at them. She then turns and steps into it, even wrapping her own arms around the other girl's waist. She's silent at her question, mulls over it in her mind for a long time. She then closes her eyes and sighs. "Elsie, I..." she whispers into her ear. "Elsie, a lot happened after that art festival. A lot of it I'm still struggling to live with today."
"I don't know if I could forgive you," she says back with sad, distant eyes. Or if I ever will, she thinks to herself, but doesn't say it out loud.
Her eyes brighten up a bit more though, and a small smile crosses her lips. "I'm really happy to see you here though. It's been so long since you and I talked or... did anything together."
"You wanna go get a drink or something to eat with me?"

OOC: The Devil Went Down to Georgia? Really? Hills of Ireland orThe Butterfly would be much more likely. Or even Bean Phaidin, Téir Abhaile Riú, or Níl Sé'n Lá. Maybe even Sí Do Mhaimeó Í. Hills of Ireland, I think; it's got a nice, complicated fiddle solo or two.
Still OOC: And Rhodri's opponent would not be stout or heavy; no one in below-average health could play well enough to attract Rhodri's attention. Rhodri's fiddle-playing is very energetic, like all good Irish/Celtic fiddle-playing.
Very OOC: If you get a chance, you should listen to some good Irish/Celtic music.

More OOC Than Matthias: I grew up listening to Charlie Daniels, and I'd give half an arm to play as good as him. I don't need all that other stuff. Plus, this is taking place in Chicago which, while not the south, is in America where the Devil Went Down to Georgia would be a highly recognizable tune and probably be a crowd favorite. Skizzerz, I applaud your choice.
As the Fiddle battle ended Brady stuffed the flyers under his arm and applauded. He never pursued music as a hobby, but he did admire those who did. He approached the fiddler who remained. "Marvelous performance, truly. I am Father Brady, you gathered quite a crowd. Would you care to do a bit of Charity work? You see I am a Priest at Old St Mary's, and we have a blood drive coming up in about a month. It might be nice to have some relaxing music while folks waited in line to give blood. How about it?"

This is a game, put on your disbelief suspenders, because you're in for a wild ride. I will not be 100% accurate in your area of expertise, nor do I aim to be. I plan on describing things as they come to me and according to what I have planned, and that may not be completely "realistic" (and in fact, I pretty much guarantee it won't be). Please don't argue with my choices for flavor or world lore, it doesn't accomplish anything and detracts from having fun. I don't have every minute world detail locked down, so for areas of your expertise you can help fill in the gaps with your own descriptive text. For example, instead of saying you were in a fiddle contest you could describe the person you're in a contest with and what sorts of songs you're playing -- stuff like that. I'll take whatever you give me and run with it.
edit: that being said, please continue to give advice, just please word it in a constructive manner. I do realize that things being totally out there can harm immersion or interest, so letting me know how things "should" be in a nice tone can be helpful for future scenarios; just do not expect any retcons
"Well met Rhodri, this looks like it would be quite fun." Brady says nodding towards the concert flyer, "Old St Mary's congregation is largely made up of Irish American Catholics. I bet your playing would be a real treat for them." Brady smiled and held his hand out to shake.

OOC: Okay, next time I'll do a far-too-detailed description. Apparently, I'm incapable of having my constructive criticism (horrid phrase, really) perceived as constructive/helpful. Just one more thing; what's a retcon?

"Yeah... I guess. Of course." Elsie says with a grin, taking a purse out of her pocket... which is strange, come to think of it, for a girl. Is she wearing pants with actual functioning pockets?
She flips through it, puzzling over something for a minute, making sure that Lily can see the other earring that she keeps in a window of the inside of her purse. Nodding, she smiles again.
"Let's get you off that drink and on to something good, eh?"she says with half a laugh, half a thoughtful chuckle.
OOC:
I was going to go on a discourse about how not to a) come off as arrogant or b) come of as incredibly passive aggressive, but I won't stir up more strife in the chat. The DM is the DM, however, and what says goes. I'd go with it - criticizing a song choice seems unnecessarily petty, even if fiddling is in your blood and a field of expertise. The length and manner of your criticism made it sound like you were insulted and unwilling to even comprehend any other approach to a fictional scene about fiddling, which not only came off as arrogant, but also petty and childish. Please don't take this personally, it's just an attempt to help.
A retcon is going back on a choice or something said in a work of fiction to fix an error, usually invalidating anything done past that point.

Lily smiles at Elsie's words, then nods back to her. She looks around another moment, doing her best to look busy as Elsie opens up her purse. After a moment, she glances back over, her eyes casually glancing over it. She freezes at the sight of the earring. Didn't she said she smashed and burned it in a fire?
Her eyes turn back toward Elsie as she speaks, caught spying into her wallet. She clears her throat and manages a wide as smile as she could back. "Yeah,"she responds, then turns to begin walking away beside her. "That sounds fun."
"I haven't found anything but cheap beer around here though," she admits, as the two approach the woman staring at them earlier toward the lake. "Although, maybe it's a good thing that I stay sober. I like having someone I know around when I get drunk."

Spotting the two women she had been watching approaching her, Charlotte went through a brief moment of panic. Did they see me? Are they going to ask why I was staring? I wasn't staring that much was I? Man, I hate it when I get caught people watching. After composing herself, Charlotte took a more casual posture- though anyone looking at her would most certainly know that she was far from casual. As the pair approached, Charlotte pretended to notice them for the first time. [Deception: 8 ]
"Can I help you two?" she asked, hiding the tremor of panic in her voice. I don't need to deal with two strangers being weirded out at me right now.
