The air around Sparks shimmers as a fine golden dust sprinkles down over his feathers. Slowly the wingless bird floats into the air then takes off careening around the glade. As he flies you suddenly see a tiny woman, wings like butterflies, appear and fly next to him, laughing and giggling with childlike glee. After a few minutes of cavorting the winged woman flits down to the shrine, a look of serene amusement on her face.
"You guys are fun." She says, "More fun that Pop, he never plays. More fun than these two, always fighting." She looks up at the warring titans. "I want them to stop fighting but Pop says we can't interfere. I don't like fighting." She says with a huff.
"Hush, Stix" Pop says. "No one cares you don't like to fight. It's the way the world is, no changing it."
Harbek looks up at the two arguing. “Ya know... he’s right, there will always be fighting. But that doesn’t mean these two must always fight. Perhaps they could be made to see reason.”
"They must fight. It is their lot to fight forever. The tree putting roots into the rock, the rock crushing down on the roots." Pop says, "Besides, the only way for them to not fight is for one of them to win. They been fighting for hundreds of years, maybe thousands! Neither of them could win this fight no more than the mountain could beat the forest or the forest beat the mountain. Not without some help, anyway." Pop adds with a wink. "But then, how'd you choose who to help? Best you just leave them be."
"But fighting isn't fun."Stix says, frustrated, flapping fitfully around the little shrine. "They must be so tired of always fighting. Can't you just make them stop?"
"They know no other way." De'ran interjects. "As certain as the sun sets and the moon rises, it is a natural element. They can not stop. For in stopping, they lose their purpose. So to stop them, you must show them purpose outside of their conflict. And that is easier said than done."

"They keep each other at bay, then. If they were to stop fighting as they have for centuries, who knows what they'd do without the other to hold them back. But then again, this kind of thing often eludes my understanding. Maybe there's a deeper reason to why they fight."
Thorin will look at the fighting tree and rock. He will sit down and cast detect magic as a ritual to see if he can tell what kind of magic is at work here.
Thorin, you detect no special magic here holding the two in place. The best you can tell they are engaged in a straight up shoving match, each pushing against each other but not shifting their weight or doing anything else to get an advantage beyond raw strength.
Once done with the flight, Sparks seems downcast, but quickly shakes it off. He shrugs at the tree and stone and then nods towards their path. He is clearly done here and ready to move onward.
Garick after taking notes, and quick sketches of the area for later he looks at the other and says Should we continue on with mission? We really should be about our business don't you think?
Sparks just nods his head. he says:
Fly with..." in the fairie's voice.
Sparks:
Flutter watches as the tiny butterfly-winged woman flies loops over Sparks' head, trailing glittering dust over him as she goes.
You may now fly!
Sparks will take to the air, exaulting as he flies around.

“Can they talk?” Harbek says, looking for mouths on these things

"They don't say nuthin, no matter how I try to get them to talk to me." Stix says, wistfully.
(How long does the fly spell last for Sparks?)
Thorin will look at the fighting tree and rock. He will sit down and cast detect magic as a ritual to see if he can tell what kind of magic is at work here.
(Fly lasts for 10 minutes.)
Thorin, you detect no special magic here holding the two in place. The best you can tell they are engaged in a straight up shoving match, each pushing against each other but not shifting their weight or doing anything else to get an advantage beyond raw strength.
Sparks will fly for the full ten minutes then, let me know when that is up.
(Since Thorin has finished his ritual casting, the spell is up)

"We should". De'ran says. "Don't want to lose any more time out here."

"Ive heard it both ways."
Thorin will look at stix and say: "Thank you for what you did for my friend Sparks. I know he enjoyed being able to take to the sky's."
He will then follow the party.
