Thank you all very much for you wonderful submissions.
I have now PM'd my initial party. If circumstances don't allow people to continue playing, this will re-open and I will consider all, old and new applicants.
I hope you're all keeping safe in this difficult time.
Two spaces have become available in our current game, and I am looking to replace them both!
Please apply within the following, so we can get this game on the road and tell a great story together!
Application will be standard fare with a small difference; rather than 'Backstory' it will be 'Backstory with Gundren'. Which means describing how your character got involved (or tangled!) with the dwarf proprietor's plans. Does he owe your character a favour and lets slip of something big? Or Does your character in debt more than money can pay? Perhaps your skills caught his eye in Waterdeep? Do let us know in no longer than a large paragraph.
Creation Rules:
Level 2 - Milestone Levelling - Fixed HP
Ability Scores - Standard Array or Point Buy
Official stuff only, please - Excluding Ravinca & Eberron
I'll PM those successful on the closing date Sunday 12th April around 3-4pm GMT.

background: noble (variant)
alignment: lawful neutral (money and hard work is what drives him, not his devotion to society)
backstory with grunden: despite his formidable skill with his war pick, satanislav the glib has, as his nickname suggests, an talent for rallying people to a common cause that is far more valuable to the dwarf, and with the promise that he was allowed to use his pickaxe for something other than violence, he was convinced by grunden rockseeker to help with his fundraising efforts and to assist in this new project the dwarf has been talking about, and so far satanislav has persuaded three other honest workers to come help him, his charisma is what he brings to the team
(yes, i am really gonna submit my dumbass character twice becuase this idea is just really like the idea)
Backstory with Gundren: Gundren noticed Jasper as a newcomer to Neverwinter, and eager to make a name for himself as a mercenary. Jasper, being only a halfling, was known for taking any job, and often at a discounted rate. Jasper has gone to Gundren several times looking for work, and now that he has finally been hired for the paltry sum of 10g, is eager to prove himself.
Goumo is an actor, playing the part of noble warriors in an all Halfling cast. But he’s had enough of play acting, he’s ready for the real thing. He’s spent his life learning method acting, trying to become the warriors he plays. When a patron (gundren) came through looking for guards, Goumo saw it as his chance to go try his hand at - real - adventure!
Name: Jou Race | Class: Tiefling Warlock https://ddb.ac/characters/26099304/b7NL7R Background: Sage Alignment: True Neutral Backstory with Gundren: Joy grew up surrounded by books, as her grandfather was the head caretaker of a very large library. Gundren has some very rare books for sale that Joy desperately wanted, but couldn’t afford. Seeing she had abilities, he offered a deal. He’d give her the books, but she’d owe him a debt to be paid whenever he wanted. She agreed, and is now on her way to repay that debt.
Name: Balfour Race | Class: Halfling Rogue Background: Criminal/Spy https://ddb.ac/characters/26497066/K9YrBN Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory with Gundren: Balfour was part of a group charged with protecting a caravan in which Gundren's nephew -- Nagren, a friend of Balfour's -- was travelling. The caravan was attacked, and the attackers were defeated but the nephew died. Balfour feels responsible for the death, and Gundren knows it, and it has not stopped him calling upon Balfour's expertise occasionally. "You owe me, boy" was all he had to say to get Balfour's help. It'll probably be written on his gravestone.
Name: Liet Kynes Race | Class: Halfling Druid Background: Underdark Spy (custom) Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory with Gundren: Liet was captured as a slave in the Underdark. Though he escaped captivity, he was unable to find his way out of the Underdark itself for well over a year. While surviving (mostly on conjured berries) he starting finding small ways to sabotage the workings of the Drow when possible. Finally finding an exit he found himself near Phandelver he wandered into Gundren's Inn and got a meal for a story. Hearing what he'd done in the Underdark, and after a night's rest, Gundren asked Liet for his assistance.
Name: Duglee Race | Class: Verdan Bard Background: Failed Merchant Alignment: Chaotic good Backstory with Gundren: Duglee had his dealings with Gundren during his active time as a merchant. They even had a sort of rivalry about who could come up with the rarer item. When a deal went south in which both of them were involved, Gundren helped out with his contacts and dwarfen wit. Duglee contributed with his social skills and both got out unharmed. As time went by, Duglee heard about some of Gundren's endeavors from other merchants. When Gundren contacted him, talking in a secretive manner, Duglee sensed a business opportunity. While he enjoyed his professional switch to adventuring and travelling, he could use some gold and some comfortable place to sleep once in a while.
Name: Krammond Trollbleeder Race | Class: Hill Dwarf | Ranger Background: Outlander Alignment: Chaotic Good Backstory with Gundren: Rarely did Krammond run into other people. When he did come across them he would often trade pelts or meat for things the wild could not provide.
One such trade was with a fellow Dwarf. Gundren, he called himself. A fair trader that often had work for someone with Krammond's woodland skills. The hunting or capture of certain beasts, the acquisition of particular herbs, Gundren paid well for such services. The two became regular traders, almost friends.
Name: Viren Harper Race | Class: Half-elf | Bard Background: Folk Hero Alignment: Neutral Good Backstory with Gundren: Viren is deaf. Always was, always will be. However, he has a strange way of hearing the world: through music. Few would afford Viren a real chance at life or success due to this impediment. It was Gundren who saw this gift of Viren's, gifted him his first musical instrument, and paid for his music lessons, which quickly placed him on a path to success. So he considers himself forever indebted to Gundren. Viren is trying to pay Gundren back not only through money, but also through his legacy.
