Kevin: You can see that she really wants to tell you, but she knows she shouldn't. "Look, just ask around about the gang with the flying snake tattoos and I'm sure someone will fill you in. The taverns of Waterdeep are full of folks whose tongues loosen with a few drinks."
She looks around at the other Watch members. "Now get out of here before I get in trouble."
Having been shooed away by the City Watch, you all continue into the Dock Ward proper. Tall, densely packed tenements leave most of the neighborhood in shadow at ground level. Most of the streetlamps have had their glass smashed and their candles stolen, and the smells of salt air and excrement linger as you pass by rows of run-down buildings. You make a left off Snail Street and onto Fillet Lane.
You all look down the lane for the Skewered Dragon, but you see no signs for it. However, one nearby shop stands out from the others. It has a deep purple facade, and in its window hangs a stuffed beholder. Above the door hangs a sign whose elaborate letters spell out "Old Xoblob Shop."
Kevin and Randy: You two have heard the name Xoblob before. You both have overheard other people mentioning "the place with the stuffed beholder in front and that weird deep gnome that runs it." Apparently, the shop has spawned some rumors.
Sol Rhea: You remember the whole story of Old Xoblob Shop.
The shop was named after the beholder that was killed by the first proprietor, Dandalus Ruell. It was unclear whether Old Xoblob was actually the name of the beholder or just the part of it that Dandalus could pronounce.
One hundred years later, the shop was purchased by a deep gnome. This gnome had survived the detonation of a gas spore in Undermountain and inherited some stray beholder memories. Driven by a compulsion to carve out his own domain, the gnome settled in Waterdeep, bought the Old Xoblob Shop from its previous owner, and tried renaming it after himself. Yet everyone kept calling it the Old Xoblob Shop. He therefore restored the old name and changed his name to Xoblob.
You all walk over to the Old Xoblob Shop and open the door. A cloud of lavender-scented purple smoke trails out of the shop's door as you peer inside. Every wall is painted purple, and every dusty knickknack on the shelves is dyed a deep violet. The hairless old gnome sitting crosslegged on the counter wears plum-colored robes. His cheeks are decorated with nine purple face-painted eyes.
The gnome lowers a pipe and exhales a cloud of lavender smoke before raising a hand. "Hail and well met! Come browse the shelves of the most curious curiosity shop in the world!"
Sol Rhea: The old gnome smiles an almost toothless grin. "Please my dear, call me Xoblob. No relation to the eye tyrant hanging in the window!" he says as he points to the stuffed display in the window and chuckles to himself.
He takes a puff of his lavender pipe. "What can I do for you all today?"
Kevin asks the guard, "What is the name of the gang to which they have committed?"
Kevin, make a Persuasion check. The City Watch doesn't normally share information like that with random people in the street.

"Shall we investigate this Old Xoblob Shop?" asks Kevin.
"It's run by a Gnome, he could have some information or at least some interesting wares...."
