"Y-your grandaughter..." Cora shudders as she glances back to the fallen girl. "That's awful what they did. We're gonna stop them." Cora says."I can clean the camels before we set off - I have a spell for it."
She reaches out toward the nearest camel to cast Prestidigitation, but stops short. "Waitaminute. I remembered what I saw and felt since we came here. All my spells felt weird and don't feel right. I'm not sure if it's just me. You guys can cast spells; can you feel it too?"
Eira gasps as Zagaroth tells her what he sees. "Oh no. We need to get over there quickly!" She rushes off towards the crowd, trying to push through everyone, politely apologising and excusing herself the whole way through."Excuse me, pardon me, sorry, I'm so sorry, excuse me, please let me through, excuse me-"
Eira/Zargaroth You push your way through the crowd and when you finally get through, you run to the arriving camels where Ethan, Cora, Malyra, and Zadoris are. There is also an old man with them, with his face buried in his hands.
He looks up for a moment to see who just came, and sees you two. He reflexively jumps back for a moment, surprised to see the tiefling.
Cora walks over to her, telling her directly as to not yell and spread more panic: "Mister Lor's granddaughter was killed as she came back across the desert. She was going to guide us. He wants us to avenge her, and I want to. I don't want to let people do things like that to nice people." she says, uncharacteristically solemn.
The old man shakes his head. “I don’t know. Please just go. I’ll send someone for the camels later.”
The 6 bloodied camels are cleaned up by Cora’s prestidigitation, and despite her worries about her magic, nothing happens. Everyone picks a camel to ride and they are all able to hop right on, except for Cora, who needed to be lifted up. Once the party prepared itself for what was ahead of them, they headed out towards Thorton to find the woman’s killer. Whether the murder happened there or on her way back is a mystery, one the party will soon find out.
About an hour later, the group begins to see a town in the distance, likely the one Lor was talking about. From your current position, the town looks like nothing but a blur, but as you get closer, you can see smoke rising into the sky. This is not chimney smoke or anything like that, however, as the buildings are burning. The houses on the outside of the town are not affected yet, which is why you were unable to see this sooner. You all feel dread forming deep inside you.
During the hour long camel ride, Cora elaborates on what she experienced with her spells.
"...so I can still cast them, but it feels like something's wrong every time I cast a spell. Sometimes I feel a shock in my hands. It sort of feels like something else is controlling it."
When they see the town, the halfling squints to see better. "You guys think those guys burned the town? Should we talk first in case they didn't?"
Before they leave, Eira will hand out the waterskins and rations equally amongst the group (so one of each per person) but keeps the extra one on herself, unless someone wants it.
As Cora talks about her magic, she gives her a slight shrug. "I haven't experienced anything like that, but then again, I haven't really used much magic recently."
As the town begins to appear on the horizon, Eira raises her brow in surprise. "Oh! The town's a lot closer than I thought it would be." Her surprise turns to shock and horror as she sees the smoke rising. "Oh gods. We need to hurry before more people get hurt by the fires! Regardless of who has done this, we need to help the town!"She tries to get her camel to move faster towards the town.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zargatoth is concerned about Coras experiences with magic. During the journey, he maneuvers his camel close to hers, and ask all about when and how she first noticed something was wrong.
"My abilities are mostly related to killen things so I did not use any magic since we encountered those bandits, bit back then everything felt normal. Except for talking to Mara which did not cause any problems"
As soon as it became clear that the smoke is not just the usual chimney smoke, Zargaroth would have sent Mara to see if the town is still under attack and where people might be gathering.
"Slow down there." Ethan calls out, trying to get the group to not rush in blindly. "Let's see if the bird can learn anything for us." He nods as the familiar flies off towards the town ahead.
Mara picks at her feathers for a couple of seconds, then opens her brown wings up to the fullest. With just 3 flaps, she begins soaring into the air, in the direction of the town. She continues to fly forward. When she’s about 60ft away, she begins flying in a circle, as if she’s trying to figure out what the cause of the fire is. However, she is unable to see anything through the smoke. She begins turning back to the party. When she’s about 40ft away, just on the outer edge of the town, Zargaroth, you hear her voice in your head.
Zargaroth:
“There’s a group behind you. I count 5 orcs and a giant scorpion. They are armed. 20ft behind you.”
Zargaroth spins, summoning his rapier to his hand.
Does he see the orcs?
(not sure how the terrain is around the town, if a group of 5 and a Scorpion gets that close to us unnoticed. If there is any chance the group could hide from the orcs Zargaroth would warn the others using the coin, telling them to hide and that ther are 5 orcs and a giant scorpion 20 feet behind them. He is hoping to give them a chance to ambush the orcs if they are what caused this mess. If they already noticed the group he will just call out to the others warning them of the threat.)
They arrived right as Mara was returning to you. They do see you and Mara has been spotted. The desert has dunes, and they had just crawled to the top of one when you were seen.

"I-Is everyone alright? What's going on?" Eira wrings her hands with worry as she approaches the others.
Cora walks over to her, telling her directly as to not yell and spread more panic: "Mister Lor's granddaughter was killed as she came back across the desert. She was going to guide us. Zargaroth notices the mans reaction and gives him a smile, trying to look as friendly as possible.
"Don't worry sir, I'm not going to bite you."
He walks over to the other group members trying to keep some distance to the man and also his granddaughter.
"This is bad, why would sombody kill her? "
Eira gasps, turning to Lor with sorrowful eyes. "I'm so sorry for your loss....I agree with Cora. We must learn more about her death and avenge her!"
Ethan nods to the others, glad to see he had become involved with a group that would do the right thing when called upon.
The old man shakes his head. “I don’t know. Please just go. I’ll send someone for the camels later.”

Perception for Mara: 19

Is that a nat15 for Mara? And did you put any advantage/disadvantage on it?
FS: 9
OP: 14
OS: 6
No I rolled advantage and it includes the +3
Gotcha. All good then
Eira slows her camel as Zagaroth sends out Maya and Ethan calls out, looking anxious and worried.
