The gang spends a little less than an hour fishing and manages to get a hold of a small pile of decent sized cod and a couple of smaller pollock. A couple of the highlights of the fishing session includes Krumdak reeling in nice flounder about the size of a dinner plate and then there is Verrynia.. The poor tiefling seemingly never fished before in her life and pulls vigorously against the fish that took her bait. It was a real big one. The big fish and Verrynia fought for 5 intense minutes and just as she saw its glittering scales underneath the surface of the rain-distorted water the unthinkable happened. The fishing line broke. After this incident Verrynia didn't have much more luck. She managed to pull in a couple of lumps of seaweed and a small, 4 or 5 inch long whiting.
The party has definitely caught the necessary fish to create a small pile, hopefully large enough to lure the mysterious fog onto the whaling ship tonight.

While the party looks for a comfortable nook to take it easy for a couple of hours until nighttime comes, Watchman Ryefield goes back to sleep in his quarters and the elf girl claims to have a day of leave so she heads into town for what you can only imagine is day drinking.
You head on back to MOUSE for an afternoon nap, and maybe some food while waiting for the night (and the fog) to come a'lurkin. You wake in your respective rooms from the sound of the hollering of the nights first drunk patrons. It is time for a stakeout! You make your way back to the docks, passing a few fishermen who are on their way for some nightly escapades.
(OOC: Any preparations the party wants do? Anywhere specifically you'll want to be hiding out? Feel free to post your plans/ideas while i prepare a map of the area.)

As the weather starts to clear and night comes crawling across the horizon you all find a place to wait for the fog on the ship. Some choose to hide, others, stay out in plain sight. You wait for maybe an hour, but nothing happens. No one notices anything suspicious except for Verrynia
Even from within the boat you hear a splash and something bumping against the side of the side of the ship. Several knocks against the hull on the port side in fact. And then you hear the faint gibbering. Could be a language, but you don't know it. Suddenly it stops. A few seconds go by before you see something peeking over the side of the ship. It's too hard to see what. But as it peeks over the edge. Fog starts swirling in a circle around the pile of fish.
All of a sudden the damp fishes start smoking, a fog swirls around them and develops into a 20 ft radius fog, centered on the pile of fishes. The gibbering starts, "Blooodiplop doop lamoodip pulp." and the deck beneath Xarprax and the pile of fishes start quaking slightly.

Khurah dashes out from her hiding spot and leaps at the mast, transforming into a giant wolf spider as she does. She scrabbles a few feet above the pile of fish and waits for something to come near, extending her blindsight.
Verrynia bolts out left (left side from boat's perspective, right side of map as drawn) with one hand pulling out a dagger and the other firmly holding onto her hat. (She remembers what the elf said happened to the captain's hat lol) She sizes up the first figure she'd seen (Insightful Fighting - Insight: 9 vs target Deception) and hurls her dagger. (To hit: 7 - If by some miracle that isn't a miss, it does 4 piecing plus 6 sneak attack if the insight contest was won).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Xarprax is holding his war pick in one hand and trying to hold onto a few fish in the other. As soon as he feels something trying to take the fish, he'll swing with his pick.
War pick attack at disadvantage?: 25; damage: 11 piercing damage
The gibbering noises grow louder and the sounds of feet wet feet pattering against the deck of the ship mixes into the cacophony of sounds.
Xarprax, Gunnar and Krumdak all manage to pinpoint the sound of their enemies enough to land a hit. Those of you who understand Undercommon hear:
"WHAT?!. THEY'S ATTACK! WE'S ATTACK BACK! FISH FOR THE PRINCESS OF KELP! FOOD FOR THE DUCHESS OF THE SHALLOWS!" The final two sentences are chanted over and over again as they stab at you.
You watch as the hunched over, fishlike shapes stab at you with short spears through the fog. Attacking Verrynia: 19 Damage: 4 Attack Krumdak: 15 Damage: 2 Attack Gunnar: 9 Damage: 4 Attack Xarprax: 4 Damage: 4

The rest of the gang is in the fog and can't see any of their attackers clearly, but Verrynia is outside and clearly sees as the fishpeople climb aboard. Each of the grunts wield a spear and a shield, but the final one differs. It wears a captains hat and a patch over one eye. Instead of a shield and spear it wields a long staff with what looks like a massive crab claw at the end of it. The claw snaps towards Verrynia and the fish leans in and chomps at the lithe tieflings body. Like something taken out of a story of alien creatures a second set of jaws burst out from its mouth, making the whole attack strangely terrifying to watch.

If we''re going to do this, it's best we get some rest now so we can make it through the night shift.
"Sounds good", Krumdak says and begins preparing for sleep.
Xarprax says he's too excited to sleep, but once he's comfortable, he's out.

Despite the jokes, Gunnar is still for the idea of waiting closest to the fog. With no opposition, he will take up the nearest position to the site.

DM:
Since Xarprax isn't actually sleeping in MOUSE, you might need to decide where he is sleeping in case there are some ... consequences of that.
Verrynia heads just below deck to wait.
Krumdak stays close to the bait and Gunnar.
Xarprax wants to be on deck. If there's enough fish to do it, he'd like to be covered by fish on the deck.
