The stalls selling groceries seem the busiest; two vegetable sellers appear to have a friendly rivalry, interrupted each other frequently to tempt customers to their wares - it all seems good-tempered. A stall selling herbs and spices has a small crowd as the vendor is describing a new and unusual spice that has just been delivered from the Menagerie Coast, where it is apparently all the rage in the best kitchens. Quieter and off to the side, you notice a cloth merchant who appears to have dozed off, head resting on the table of her stall, and toy merchant who appears to have sold most of her inventory and is packing up for the day.
Celica fights the urge to investigate the herb stand and instead heads over to the toy merchant. "Hello! My friend and I just came in from out of town, can I get one last look before you pack up for the day?" Celica asks with a smile and coin purse in hand. She takes a moment to browse the selection and eventually picks out a doll made to look like a Righteous Brand soldier. "Heh, she kinda looks like me! I'll take this one! By the way, I heard on the road that there were some suspicious looking characters at the Blue Rider Inn the other day. Did you happen to see anyone like that? Someone with a scar on their face, perhaps?"
Balassar just stops and sighs "I know the feeling, though I've learned in my adventures that typically when people don't step up and stand for themselves those with evil intentions will always continue to take ground until there's no one left to stop them." he just picks up walking again "If you change your mind, or just want a drink, I'll be in the tavern later tonight. Just look for the small man telling a story." with that he just walks to the cart.
"Sally, can you take the horses over there to get fitted for shoes. I'm going to go talk to the crownsguard now."
Alton scratches at his chin, "Well, if you say there aren't any brigands and that this is the safest town. Then I shouldn't be worried about going any place in town or anywhere close by, right?" His eyes narrow a little bit, "I'm sure such a charming town has a place or two that I really should take time to visit, maybe an interesting land feature nearby that would be great to explore." He powers through the smell and takes a few of the nuts from the bowl and nods, "Just don't choke on all of those nuts, my friend."

Welcome to Feltyr, replies the merchant. And by all means, I never turn down the opportunity to brighten some child's day. Or an adults. Toys are not just for children, you know. It's healthy to spend part of your day playing and imagining, no matter what your age, right? Ah, one of our brave protectors. Yes indeed, that will be 1 silver piece please. Suspicious characters. No, nothing like that in this town. We're very law abiding and the troublemakers leave us well alone, and that's very much how we like it.
There's no reaction from the pair as you walk out. Sally handles the cart and the horseshoe business.
The young human who was standing guard outside the crownsguard post is still standing fiercely to attention. As you get closer, he looks very young, and very inexperienced. His eyes dart in your direction as you approach, widen slightly, and then return to staring directly forwards.
The gnome gives a start as you grab the nuts, and stares straight at you, menacingly. "You stealing my nuts?" She asks, in a menacing tone. She stares, and then bursts into laughter, and then burps loudly. She leans in and whispers, "I don't know where the Shadowprats are hiding. They come to town from time to time, making trouble. But spending big, too, sometimes. Enough to buy some folks' silence. I reckon there's people who know where they are. If you're hunting those shits, then the Platinum Dragon's favour go with you."
Alton smiles and nods, “Well, thank you for the conversation, but I best be getting the lodgings for my friends and I set up before they get here. Your next round of drinks or nuts is on me.” He gets up from the table, leaving a gold coin behind, and makes his way over to the innkeeper.

Celica hands over the silver piece. “Well some nice folks in a village about a little ways away from here had their house burned down, I was hoping to learn some more about who did it. Do you know anyone who would know about interesting folks passing through town? Any local gossips or busybodies? Or weirdos that like to people watch?” Celica says with a smile knowing that she is a weirdo who likes to people watch.
The innkeeper smiles as you approach. He's a human male, with fairly long reddish-brown hair and a trim beard; he bows slightly: "Welcome to the Blue Rider, and to Feltyr, for I haven't seen you around. Jammer says you are looking for rooms; is it just yourself?"
"Gossips and troublemakers? Did you hear that, Yolan?", he says, looking to one side and raising his voice. "This person's asking specifically for you."
The owner of the ceramics stall next door seems to be the target of this. The likely Yolan raises his voice too, so that a fair number of people turn to look at him, and at you and the toyseller: "Oh, have you found someone willing to purchase your worthless so-called toys, Arky? Someone who hasn't seen them fall apart a day after the sale? Why are you bothering me?"
The toyseller, apparently named Arky, turns to you, voice back to normal. "There's your gossip, if you've the stomach to listen for hours and hours to meaningless drivel. Tell him his pots are lopsided, and you heard it directly from me. Don't forget that part. It's important."
It's hard to tell if there is real animosity behind the two's relationship or if this is some kind of joke.
Celica chuckles, then makes her way over to Yolan. "You sound like just the person I need to chat with - I'm looking for some folks, potentially two different groups. One is a guy with a scar on his face that was apparently seen at the Blue Rider a little while back, and the other are some tough, brigand-looking sons of swords that may also have a penchant for arson. Honestly, anyone that has come in or passed through town within the last week that seemed suspicious or off. My companions and I don't count. Anyone matching that description?"She asks, putting her hands on her hips, her right hand just above where she has attached the Righteous Brand doll to her belt with some string like it's a keychain or charm.
Alton gives a slight bow, "Thank you and my friends and I just rolled into town. No, there are four of us, two gents and two ladies; and two rooms at least should be fine. Also, we have a cart and a couple of horses as well. We are lookin' to stay for a while as we have some business in town." He looks around the room, "You also wouldn't have any entertainment scheduled for tonight by chance?"

Yolan replies loudly: "Oh, there's no one like that around here. Arky tells such silly tales." Then he leans in and whispers: "Don't know about any man with a scar face, but the bandits call themselves the Shadowless. They have a hideout, three hours east of here, a little north of Hawk Ridge. Looks like a hawk, so easy enough to spot. I'm guessing you're not friends of theirs? Or am I wrong?"
"Well then, welcome, welcome," the innkeeper says. "No, nothing special planned for tonight. Why, are you a performer? Perhaps I've heard of you? Are you in a band?"
This is a 'modest' inn, and will cost 5 silver per room per night. There's only one bed per room, but you can still share if you want. Lodging for the horses and cart is free.
Alton nods, "I do happen to be a performer, but just a solo act; and I'd be surprised if you've heard of me as I'm new to traveling. The name is Alton, mercenary by day and performer by night." He gives the innkeeper a grin, "I'd be happy to perform in your establishment, if you'd so like my good sir."

"And I should be glad of that", the innkeeper says. "Please do, and I look forward to it. Now, if you don't mind, I have to mind the books - inns don't run themselves you know!"
Unless you want to talk more, he will retreat back to the back rooms.
(I assume you pay him for the rooms? And meals would be extra, if you want that.)
"Um, yeah, I guess," says the guard. "I mean, please state your name and business." He puts his hand to the hilt of a short sword at his belt. It takes him two attempts to find it.
Alton give the innkeeper two gold for the four rooms, "Thank you for your time and the opportunity to perform, good sir." When the innkeeper leaves, Alton will head out of the inn to find his friends.

Balassar just watches the kid fumble and takes a deep sigh "My name is Balassar, I am here to ask some questions related to a bounty my friends and I are pursuing as well as information on a group we have heard is terrorizing citizens."
He just looks at the boy again "How long have you been doing this?"
