Robwin agrees with Prosper and follows along towards the Townmaster’s house.
“I must admit”, he says to the group, “I’d be very keen to hold on to the wizarding hat myself... ...but I’m pretty relaxed either way about the amulet and the wand. I can see how both could be really useful. Anyone keen to use those, or to hand them in for the rewards?”.
"I'm not interested in the hat or the other magic items we've found so far, Robwin," Vimak says. "You all should divide them up as you think best. Let's let the mayor know we've kept our promises, see if there are more ways we can help, and get some sleep, I say," he says. Vimak is moving slightly more slowly than usual. He looks sleepy. But he moves towards the mayor's house and knocks on the door.
"Why not keep the hat if you want it? I'm sure the Townsmaster would be just as grateful for the donation of what we have to spare."Prosper shrugs, rapping smartly on the door to the townsmaster's house when they arrive and falls back, turning her head to speak with her companions while waiting for the door to be answered. "They're just baubles - I'm not really attached to them, but hey, if no one ends up wanting them I'm sure I can find a use for them."
Ulla nods at Prosper. "I haven't really been anywhere other than Gnomengard and the area around!"
Its a few moments after you knock on the door that you get an answer. "If you’re a dragon, know that I’m far too thin and bony to make a good meal! Besides, it's late at night! Eating at night isn't good for you, you know!”
Ulla nods at Prosper. "I haven't really been anywhere other than Gnomengard and the area around the mountains!"

"Pretty sure dragon's don't knock politely." Prosper mutters very quietly under her breath before pasting a smile, perhaps necessarily, over her face. "Good evening, sir! Terribly sorry to intrude upon you at this hour," but her voice doesn't sound particularly sincere. "We'll take but a moment of your time, promise! Like my good friend Robwin here says, just here to let you know that we've been to see Ms Gwynn, and also the gnomes of Gnomengarde, as you requested?"
Adas speaks to Robwin, "Your making use of the cap only makes sense, seeing as we obtained it to aid the town and we all have come here to be it's principal defenders."
"No, I'm not opening up this door! Just slip the letter under and leave the magic items at the door. Come back in the morning and I'll give you your payment if you've done your job right!"
"I'm sorry, Mayor," Vimak says, "but you promised you'd pay us if we did what you asked and we did what you asked. The letter, the wand, the amulet all prove it."
Robwin looks around his group of friends, “Thank you, everyone. I will keep the hat, if that’s okay. Thanks. And it will aid in defending the town... I’ll make sure of that!”.
Robwin also adds to Vimak’s remarks in talking to the Townmaster: “Yes, and we’ve even gone over and above the requests you’ve posted here... We’ve secured the aid of 3 Gnomengarde experts: a brave guard, and two expert inventors, who have traveled back with us to aid your town! Surely that must be worth a bonus?! No? Or at least they deserve a more gracious welcome from the town’s master!?”. He speaks politely, but if the group didn’t know better they might have though they could see Robwin’s fingertips crackling with electricity...

Robwin Persuasion (I'll say with advantage with help from Vimak): 16
(Oh. Yikes.) You hear a sigh through the door. "I'm not opening this door for anyone! But fine. As I said before, just slip the letter under and leave the magic items at the door so that I can take a look at them. I'll pay you now, if you actually did your job. I didn't ask you to get any aid from the gnomes, you did that yourself. So, no. I will not be giving you any bonus."

(OOC: ha, yes, yikes! that's a bad roll! Fits the story though! nice one.)
Robwin looks a little deflated at that. His fingers have stopped crackling though, and he takes out Ms Gwynn’s letter. He’s about to slide it under the door... but first turns it over a couple of times in his hands inspecting it, thoughtfully... (investigation: 23 )
(OOC: he’s looking to see what’s written on the outside, to see if it’s open or sealed, and to see if he can see through the paper at all. But mostly, (if it is sealed) to deduce whether someone might be able to open it in a way that it didn’t look like it had been opened! He won’t tamper with it yet, he’s just looking...)
Calmer now, he sighs and says quietly to the team "I guess we can't blame people for being scared really. These are dangerous times. And it is late, and dark. Maybe he'll be more approachable in the morning? Let's get paid now, for helping Ms Gwynn and for any magical items we're not keeping,... and then take some well deserved rest!.... ... you wanna see what's in this letter though first?! Or just post it through?".
Prosper looks briefly concerned at the townsmaster's paranoia, but brightens a little when he mentions the gold - she was initially worried that he was just trying to weasel out of paying them, but it seemed like the issue was something else. "Townsmaster, sir? You sure you don't want to come outside and meet the gnomish ambassadors? They've come a long way, and rest assured no harm's going to come to you, not with us around. I really really do promise."
If Robwin really wants to discreetly open up the letter, Prosper won't stop him, although she doesn't feel very good about poking through a private letter and will tell Robwin as much. "It's not our job to see what's in the letter, and I'm sure if Ms. Gwynn wanted us to know anything she'd have told us outright." She points out, with a slight frown. "Let's just post the letter and ask to speak to the townsmaster tomorrow."
"You're right, of course, I'm sorry..." Robwin says to Prosper lightly rubbing his temple... "I'm not thinking right... I'm... I'm just tired I think...".
The glimpses he got of some of the more destructive and underhanded spells, from the wizard's hat, still seem to be echoing in his mind a little....
"I'm just tired...". He attempts a smile and recedes into himself a little.
He posts the letter through the door, and calls out, "Here you are, Townmaster... the letter from Adabra Gwynn...".
It's been a long and eventful first day, and it shows a little on his face. He takes a couple of steps back from the door (beside Ulla perhaps if she's up near with the group currently). With his mage armour faded, and his ward gone, he feels somewhat exposed... and he slips back into his old habit of quietly rehearsing the various motions and phrases associated with his protective spells, over and over, one by one.
The letter is sealed with a bit of red wax so it would be difficult to make it seem that the letter wasn't opened before. You try to see if you can see any of the contents of the letter, but due to how dark it is, you're unable to.
"I can address them perfectly fine behind my door! If the gnomes are with you, then welcome to Phandalin, thank you for coming, I hope your stay is lovely. If you need any help, don't hesitate to ask me." He speaks quickly and in a monotone voice, as though he's said it a million times before.
There's a few moments of silence after Robwin slips the letter under the door, followed by a sigh and muttering. You can't really hear what he's saying but you can definitely make out. ".... Gwynn, so stubborn...." Suddenly coins begin to come through under the door, one at a time. "One.... two.... three.... four...." The coins stop after the 25th piece. "There, the Umbrage Hill quest is done. Now, the magic items. Actually, to make things easier, I'm specifically after the Hat of Wizardry. If you have that, then I'll buy it off you for 50gp and you can keep everything else."
(Just wanted to make sure, but who has the magic items? I'm assuming Robwin has them all. Also, I made a bit of a mistake and forgot that Ulla also gave you guys the Pole of Collapsing alongside the Clockwork Amulet so add that to your inventory.)
(OOC: yes Robwin has all of the magic items for now (hat, amulet, wand). I'll add the pole too. But they are of course team items. Very happy to discuss what we do with each one).
When Robwin hears 'Hat of Wizardry' from the voice behind the door, he stops muttering, and his hand freezes in mid air before dropping to his side. He takes another small step back away from the door. And looks around the group, at each of his friends in turn. He looks tired and a little battered, but his eyes almost seem to plead with them a little...
Vimak collects the coins as they appear from under the door. He distributes them among the party as they are passed under the door, making sure either they are passed out equally or that he goes without if they don't divid evenly.
From his body language and facial expression it is obvious he thinks little of the mayor. He steps back from the door and whispers. "We promised to bring him magic items, not all or each magic item we collected. I say we have kept our promise if we have given him two magic items."
Prosper gives Vimak a nod of appreciation and takes her share of their earnings. "Up to you, Robwin."Prosper whispers to the elf, tucking her coins into her pocket. "I mean, either way it sounds like he's happy with us keeping the ret of the items, hmm? If you'd prefer the hat to the gold, then sure, it's your choice. We'll just have to see if he wants any of the other trinkets we collected. The gold would be nice, of course, but I'd rather we bolstered our versatility so, you know, we're alive to spend it."
