"I'm open to walking around," Vimak says. "A good way to get to know a place. We might run into a library or bookstore as well, Robwin." He starts to stand and stretch, but remembers and ducks his head, not bumping the ceiling.
Robwin stands too, and throws in coin for his food and room.
He looks up (and then up some more), “Thanks Vimak. Sounds good. Let’s make sure we check out the job board too. And, where was the caravan heading? The provisions store?... we could see if that’s still open. Get the lay of the land before we turn in this evening?”
”and Prosper, you’re right. It isn’t that easy to just up and leave your own home. If there’s time maybe we can run a loop around the outlying properties. See if anyone’s holding out. See if anyone needs anything. Maybe they’ll have information on what we’re dealing with first hand”.
(when everyone else is ready, Robwin is content to head back out into the town. He’ll probably unconsciously hang back a bit towards the middle or the back of the group as everyone leaves)
"Well from what I've heard, the dragon goes around, surveying its territory before swooping and picking up whatever it can get its claws on as its meal. It causes a lot of damage to the area, not to mention it can kill people. Those outside of town are a lot closer to its territory so they're at risk of getting swooped and picked up a lot more than ushere."
At the question of who would leave town, Toblen turns to Robwin. "There are a lot more people who don't live in just this town. I, for one, was born and raised in Triboar, just to the east. Or you got people like Adabra Gwynn. She lives by herself on Umbrage Hill. She's the one if you want to talk to if you want some magic stuff... I think. Well, at the very least, we don't have anything like that here, unfortunately."
At the question of who would know more, Toblen scratches his head, an unsure expression appearing across his face. "Well, technically Townmaster Harbin would know more but uh... Well I don't want to speak ill of our Townmaster but he's a bit..." He leans in closer to the group, point to his head. "...wonky in the head." He clears his throat and straighten his shirt as he leans back up. "He's got a job board out front of his house if you want to help us out!"
As you guys give him the money for rooms, he pops back to the bar and takes out two keys. "Here you are. Oh, and if you want a bath, we got one! But... just the one. You're gonna have to take turns. It's upstairs all the way at the end of the hallway."
Prosper is finished with her meal, and stands and pushes her plate away from her. "Alright! So, the job board, the provisions store, and we'll look around for a book store, or maybe we'll check on Ms Gwynn, if she's the one the town looks to for magic. If there's enough light left we'll reconnoiter around the outskirts a little too, is that the plan?"
She'll hand over enough silver and coppers to cover her food and lodgings, taking the keys if no one else wants to hold onto them before moving away towards the exit of the inn.
"Thanks once again, Toblen!"
[ooc: deducted food and board from character inventory]
Tahnis nods and finishes his food. "The job board sounds like a good place to start. I can always visit landmarks later." He follows Prosper toward the exit.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Robwin follows the others back out into the town and looks around, seeing it and taking in the sights and sounds properly for the first time...
(He seems more relaxed now. He's still reciting elvish phrases to himself, quietly. But now they seem to flow more easily, almost taking on a faint tune like child's nursery rhyme. His hands move more smoothly too, as if following more practised shapes and forms...)
Adas agrees and stands with the others, wiping off any food left on his clothes and cloak. He steps outside and takes in the town again, orienting himself from what he remembered earlier.
To Tahnis, "I remember you mentioning that you are a traveler and with that bow I assume you are a woodsman yes? We should get along rather well I think. Have you ever done any hunting in this region?"
It's around noon, the sun high in the sky as you all head to the job board. As you approach, you see the townmaster’s hall. It has sturdy stone walls, a pitched wooden roof, and a bell tower at the back. The job board next to the front door features a sparse number of notices, all written in Common and in the same hand. There are three main jobs, seemingly written by the Townmaster.
Dwarven Excavation Quest: Dwarf prospectors found ancient dwarven ruins in the mountains southwest of here, and have been working an archaeological dig seeking treasure and relics. They need to be warned that a white dragon has moved into the area. Take the warning to them, then return to Townmaster Harbin Wester to collect a reward of 50 gp.
Gnomengarde Quest: A clan of reclusive rock gnomes resides in a small network of caves in the mountains to the southeast. The gnomes of Gnomengarde are known for their magical inventions, and they might have something with which to defeat the dragon. Get whatever you can from them. If you bring back something useful and don’t want to keep it for yourselves, Townmaster Harbin Wester will pay you 50 gp for it.
Umbrage Hill Quest: The local midwife — an acolyte of Chauntea named Adabra Gwynn — lives by herself in a stone windmill on the side of a hill a few miles south of Phandalin. With dragon sightings becoming more common, it’s not safe for her to be alone. Urge Adabra to return to Phandalin. Once she’s safe, visit Townmaster Harbin Wester to claim a reward of 25 gp.
"Adabra Gwynn . . ." Vimak says. "Didn't Toblen mention her? After we wander the town, she might be a good place to start." His head begins to shine in the heat. Vimak unbuttons his shirt sleeves and rolls them up in an effort to cool off a little. His forearms are thick with twisted muscle and he has calluses on his hands from practicing with his weapons.
OOC: The cost of the meal has been removed from Vimak's coin
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Robwin looks up at Vimak again "Yes, that suits me! Two birds with one stone, as they say...".
And to Adas: "Hmmm... 'an acolyte'... 'Chauntea'... is that something you've heard of before?... Maybe it rings a bell from my studies... but I'm not sure I can quite place it..."
OOC: Happy to take an Arcana or History check (if appropriate):-

(also, if you'd rather we don't make preemptive rolls, that's cool. Happy to wait to be asked or pre-roll to keep things moving).
"Is it also worth us speaking to the Townmaster now?... since we're here" Robwin looks up at the Hall building for any signs of life within...
(No need to roll. As a student, I'm sure you would know that an acolyte is someone who spends much of their life devoted to a deity and that Chauntea is a deity of agriculture.)
"Yes, Toblen mentioned she's the one to talk to for magic." Prosper continues staring at the job board, mouthing the words silently as she reads. "The townsmaster is called Harbin Wester, good to know. Well," She says to Robwin now. "No harm in knocking and asking! Although since we have to report back to the townsmaster after we return with Adabra we might as well wait until we have some sort of achievement to show him."
The bright sun is getting to irritate Prosper as she stands in the street, and she takes off her cloak, slinging it over her shoulder. "I don't want to walk too much right now, how about we check out the shops in town first?
"Yes, let's take a walk to the shops. Interesting that they priest of Chauntea is far from town. It is normally the province of the Goddess of plenty to be among the village to aid all it's harvests," Adas explains as they walk.
(Assuming everyone wants to go to the general store.)
You all head to Barthen's Provisions, the same place the caravan went to when you first arrived. It's still there as you approach the store, with two young human boys you don't recognise helping to unload the supplies. An older human man stands by the door, seemingly watching over the boys.
Vimak will approach the older human man. "Are you Barthan?" he says. He smiles as widely as he can and tries to look friendly. "We are headed toward Umbrage Hill soon. What would you suggest for the trip? And would you have a whetstone I might purchase? I've worn my old one to a sliver." He holds up a thin wafer of rock.
"I wouldn't know much about god worshipping." Prosper admits unabashedly, almost skipping ahead as they pass through the town."Parents weren't very religious, never had time for temples. Perhaps she's a part timer, something like that."
Prosper waves to the man and two boys with good cheer as they approach Barthen's Provisions. "Hey there! Like Vimak said, just stocking up on some provisions. Also, our friend here." She gives Robwin a friendly poke, "is on the look out for magic things, I think? Anywhere in town for that sort of thing? Except Umbrage Hill, of course."
Robwin greets Barthen too. He explains that we traveled in with the caravan, and offers the group’s assistance with unloading supplies “Finished in half the time with a little help! And this one” indicating Vimak “is ‘quite’ strong”.
And reacting to Prosper’s poke “OH! Ahah, yes, it’s true... I would be interested in anything magical in nature. If you have anything, or know where such things can be found?!’
shopping:
(Robwin will ask about: a) anythingmagical, and b) jewels/components (specifically a pearl and a diamond)).
(and assuming the store has simple supplies will buy: a simple scroll case, 1x sheet of paper, 2x sheets of parchment, 5x candles, 5x sticks of chalk,.... oh and soap!! for a bath later! (I’ll reduce coin by 1gp 4sp 12cp accordingly but let me know if his prices are different))
The old man is a lean, balding human who looks to be around 50 years. As the group approaches, he returns Vimak's smile with an equally wide smile of his own. "Good afternoon! Yes, I am indeed Barthen of Barthen's Provisions! Full name, Elmar Barthen. A pleasure to meet you all!
If you're looking for magical items and the like, you aren't likely to find any here. Closest thing we've got to magic stuff is potions of healing and only Adabra has those, not to mention pretty limited stock of them. If you're heading to her at Umbrage Hill, you won't need anything special. It's just a quick trip to the south. Shouldn't take any longer than 2 hours to get there. Oh, the townmaster did just put up a job posting for someone to head to Gnomengarde to get some magic items. Maybe you can head over there and keep some of the items you find?
Unfortunately, the town isn't really in the business of selling precious gems, we mostly buy them from the miners. You might be able to make a deal with Halia down at the Miner's Exchange but it's unlikey. She's, uh... she's a bit prickly. Everything else you need though, I got stock of! Come on in and I'll get what you need." He ushers you into the store, picking things off of shelves and placing them on the counter. "That'll be 1 copper for the whetstone for you, big man. And for you, good sir, it'll be a total of 1 gold, 5 silver and 2 copper.
(Prices for Robwin:Scroll case - 1gp, Paper - 2sp,Parchment x2- 2sp, Candles x5 - 5cp, Chalk x5 - 5cp, Soap - 2cp)
Robwin pays, and stows the gear carefully in his pack.
“Thank you! Ok, no problem... Gnomengarde for magical items, and Halia at the Miner’s Exchange might know about jewels, got it. Thank you. Thanks again!”.
(Robwin is not desperate for magic items or jewels right now... and is happy to explore town further or head to Umbrage Hill)
