Before leaving the cave Roscoe thinks of something, and checks the rotting animal remains for any bit of fur that might be left. If there is any he'll pocket a small handful.
As Rosco.comes out of the cave he notices that the creatures have left footprints in the mud. The look like small feet about his size but with claws at the end.
The group moves upstream to the north taking care to remain hidden. They make good progress despite the moonless night and arrive near the abandonned village with the sun still an hour from rising.
The village has three larges building, a temple of some sort, an inn and a shop, positionnés around a plaza with a well in the middle. Several houses are still up next to those buildings. There are no sound nor light coming from the buildings.
Looking around at the desolate place, Bitter Ashes whispers, “That th’ not-livin’ moight be lurkin’ round ‘ere jes pops inta me ‘ead. Any see signs o’ thin’s that be goin’ to ‘n fro twixt the buildin’s?” He will carefully look at each building and the ground around to see if there is any sign that ‘something’ inhabits any of the places.

Even if you were from the area there is little chance you'd know about this place so small it is.
As you all wait behind a large boulder overlooking the hamlet Leshanna goes to scout ahead.
Several feet to the first ruins a sound can be heard. Someone seems to have a hard time breathing. Leshanna is hit with the smell of something rotten has she approach and she understands has she takes a quick look. A pair of zombies are walking aimlessly down the street. They turn their heads as one toward her but she quickly hides away and is long gone when they shuffle to her location.
Having climbed over the roof she has a better look of the place. The church is barred and has been defaced. The Inn stands and is probably the strongest building there. The shop stands gutted and looted. The door is off its hinges and the windows have be broken. Of the houses still standing only two have barred doors. They are also the only ones with 2 floors.
While waiting for a few moments she sees that 4 others zombies clamber past. As she leaves she spies a large bag. Inside are a leather armor and a short sword. Not of really good quality but serviceable.
Grabbing the bag, Leshanna heads back towards the group.
"Place is crawling with zombies." She informs the group as she reaches them. "There are a few buildings that look defensible." She describes the layout to the others. "I found this as I was heading back." She shows them the sack, but keeps the leather armor while letting someone else use the short sword if they can.
"If someone else wants to take the short sword, I can take one of the metal shards back and make use of it. Is this a place we want to stay? If we can sneak through, we might could get a good rest, but if we leave many zombie shells around, it could point to us. What do we think?"

"Might be a good idea to draw the undead away." Lshanna speaks up. "If I were to let them see me, then draw them away, it might make it easier for the rest of you to get into the inn." She shrugs. "Then I lose them and get back to you."
Roscoe looks at Leshanna "I can help, if you want." "I'm pretty good at not leaving a trail. Then again, I bet you're faster than I am. Not sure how fast they are."
He's referring to this ability:
Timberwalk
Ability checks made to track you have disadvantage, and you can move across difficult terrain made of nonmagical plants and undergrowth without expending extra movement.
Roscoe does his best to survey the terrain for any precarious places like steep drops and any heavy underbrush he could move through with his tiny form, leaving the zombies behind while he circles back to the party in case the group wants him to help lead them away.
“Let us get as close t’ th’ inn as possible,” Bitter Ashes suggests. “Then, if need be, Roscoe kin do the run round, n’ we’ll mak’ certain sure the back door be open. Spell user remember t’ keep th’ pow’r doon t’ lowest levels, lest somethin’ we nae wish t’ see cooms lumberin’ oop n’ surprise us.”

Leshanna goes out first trying to get the undead's attention to lure them away from the inn's vicinity. About seven creatures follow him when he leaves the city. They are slow but relentless sand he starts to feel fatigue cramping his tired muscles but with his training he is able to keep them at bay.

The rest of the group moves in the village keeping to the shadows and trying to move as fast as possible but also as silently.
They arrive in front of the inn and see the door barred from the outside with a wooden board. The windows have been closed up the same way.

With the wild plants now free to grow that would be the perfect ability.
"Wort' a try," Bitter Ashes says. "But first mayhaps we sh'ld work our way a bit closer t' th' inn, circle round to th' back."
OCC Is the inn near the edge of the ville?

"Seems like a good start." Leshanna confirms.
Inn is at the center of the village. You'll have to go through the first ruined house and then the plaza with the well.
Ith looks at the group. "We need to rest and scavenge. The village seems like a good idea. We will need to be cautious not to attract attention."
Blanche who had kept silent pipes in, in a shaky voice. "They are very slow but relentless."
