Lander looks up from his book.
I'd like to make an insight check. I'm basically listening to his speech patterns, body language, etc., to see if I can pick up any signs of deceit or deception and whether or not I think this dwarven man is earnest or not. Insight:14
"Khubic, my good man, as it stands, I currently find myself looking for some work. I'd be happy to join you at your table. " Lander stands up from his chair and gives a slight bow. "Lander Greenleaf at your service. " Lander gives a toothy grin and follows the dwarf back to his table. He's genuinely curious to find out what Khubic has to say.
(OOC: I noticed when Fedex is doing his rolls , he lists his modifier next to the roll. I've just been putting my modifier right into the roll itself when I generate it. Is there a way you'd prefer it? Also, what is going to be the best way to do my halfling lucky ability?)
"Indeed. Thank you for the most fun I've had in a fortnight." Smiling.
He re-evaluates Leona; her fitness, stamina, and grace against her demureness and commitment to cat and home and decides not to ask if she would be interested in joining the delivery party.
"When you are ready ... I'll ask you to stay close and follow my lead. Our half-orc friend might be out for a bit of fresh air rather than dreaming of ..." At this point the sentence was left unfinished because he couldn't think of a suitable conclusion to the corner he had painted himself into.
OOC for All: I'm signing off for the night. I'll be on again throughout the day tomorrow. Before I move the story along any further, I'd like to give Riona a chance to do the gambling she's been trying to do since we started this thread, ha ha. Once she gets her turn we'll move our story along and listen to what Khubic has to offer.
OOC for Lander: I can work with either option, but my preference would be that modifiers are included with the roll. As for the "Lucky" ability, dndbeyond is supposed to allow you to see the details of a roll when you hover your mouse cursor over the result. Right now I believe this function is bugged, at least it has been for me and quite a few others. When I hover my cursor over a result it just shows a continuous loading animation. So the only way we can tell if you rolled a 1 is by doing a little math on our end. For example, if your modifier is +2 and the result of the roll is a 3, then we know you rolled a 1 on the dice. In that case, if either of us catch it throughout this adventure, you'll just re-roll and take the new result. That's my interpretation of it anyway, what are your thoughts?
(OOC- That's perfect to me and was exactly what I thought might work. Knowing my modifiers, once I roll, I'll immediately know if it was a 1. I can immediately make another post right after specifying it's a reroll for halfling luck.)
Riona points her attention to the dice game, after wincing at the man losing his fingernail and thumbing and old wound of her own from her wilder days.
"I fear I have never played this particular game before, would one of you mind filling me in on the rules?"
**OOC
sorry for the late response, had a surprise essay sprung on me in lue of a final exam, should be up semi early tomorrow, we can power through the dice game hopefully and get to the adventure!
I stare down at the dwarf but try to remain respectful. My tribe’s elders taught me to respect the dwarf-kind, even after what my tribe did old habits die hard. I then say to the dwarf,
”I understand you have a “job” for me, correct. Well judging from your pockets and clothing I would say you are well off in your lifestyle. I am only looking for the reward, so if the reward is smiling faces I will not accept. And another thing, this “Adventurers” thing, after all these months with a bounty on my head I say it is best I work alo-“
I would have finished my sentence had it not ben for the halfling sitting right next to me. I have been sitting here for a good amount of time and yet I have just noticed this halfling. Of course I am over 7ft so he is easy to overlook. Actually, it appears to be the same halfling the bar maiden was speaking to and that woman who commented on my height. Even under the ash of that fire, my Goliath markings tingle, I feel I have been fated to be here.
”Hello there half-cup*,” I say to the halfling,“ Well it seems you have piqued my interest Sir Dwarf. Please, tell me your name and this job you would need two Adventurers for.” I release the tension in my voice as I ask the dwarf man this question.
It seems I have stumbled into quite a “side-quest”.
*OOC: Haha, get it, cause cups are smaller than pints, and I am over 7ft tall :P. Also callback to me being wanted (use that information however), plus a falling out with my tribe I don’t feel like talking about until later. Bonus because I added Goliath stuff I got from 10 minutes of reading a wiki.
Lander laughs and slaps the table at the goliath's attempt at a joke. He says, "I guess that makes you the keg! I'm Lander Greenleaf.....pleased to meet you. " Lander looks the goliath up and down and thinks to himself," Holy crap, that's one big man. " He holds his hand out in greeting.
He looks to the dwarf. "By the way, if you're looking for additional people, I may have someone in mind. Do you see that attractive redhead over there at the gaming tables? She dabbles in magic like myself and may be worth talking to. She had mentioned to me she was looking for work." He gestures over towards Riona.
Lander's excitement builds as he realizes this may be just the adventure he's been looking for. No more sitting in the hovel for him.
Riona: You watch as the dice game is played out before you. Seated around the table are a Gnomish man with shoulder length hair around the sides of his head and nothing on top, a young Human man sporting a green tunic and a mop of curly blonde hair, and a rotund Dawrven woman with a bodice that's full to bursting. The gamblers each toss a handful of coins into the center of the table, then roll a handful of dice. The Gnomish man exclaims "Avandra's blessings, 9 for me!" The young man sighs and says "23..." while the Dawrven woman says "You little scamp Gimble! I'll have you next round... 17 for me." with a pout. The Gnomish man stands on his chair and rakes the coins over to his side of the table. The Dwarven woman notices you and says "Hello dear, we'd love for you to join. If nothing else you can help us rough up Mr. Gimble a bit after this is all over." as she shoots the Gnome man a devious look. Gimble chuckles and says "Now, now, Thedra, no need to get excited. The dice taketh as easily as they giveth." The young Human man then pipes up "Well, they've been rather miserly to me..." You sit at the table and the three begin explaining the game to you. "The name of the game is Three's. At the start of the set, we all decide upon an amount we want ante. The usual ante is 3 copper. Everyone then puts their ante in the middle of the table, we call this the pot. Next, we each roll five dice and total their face value. A one would be worth one point, a five worth five points, and so on. Threes are worth zero points. The goal is to have the lowest score, so the more threes you roll the better. Whoever gets the lowest score wins the round. Whoever wins three rounds first, wins the set and takes the pot. Any questions so far?"
OOC: To play, all you have to do is make five separate 1d6 rolls. I'll roll for the other players. Here's what that will look like:
Gimble:6, 4, 3, 3, 5 = 10
Thedra: 6, 6, 3, 1, 2 =12
Thristan (Human man):2, 4, 2, 2, 5 =24
We'll use the above rolls for the first round. So if you manage to score lower than a 10, you win the first round!

"Oh that sounds like fun! The part about roughing up your friend of course" She laughs at the lively bunch.
She quickly adjusts her dress before taking an empty seat and rubs her hands together. She produces three copper and takes care to stack them on top of each other on the table. A habit she picked up from an old drinking game she used to play with her sister.
also question: For my find familiar spell is it ok if i assumed i have already summoned and have access to my familiar, or would you rather i wait until i have the material components and officially make the first cast?
Fedex: Leona smiles and wraps herself tightly in a heavy fur lined cloak as you both step out into the brisk night air. "Our estate is on the outskirts of town, on the hill that over looks the River Reaching. You can follow the main thoroughfare through town and head toward the bridge for now." The two of you walk at an easy pace, making small talk as the cobblestones pass beneath your feet. Once at the edge of town you see a path winding up a large hill that gives the town it's name. At the end of the path, atop the hill, is a sprawling manse with well manicured grounds. An ornate and heavy iron gate blocks entry to the path. A man stands posted beside the gate. As you approach, he raises a lantern and says "Welcome back my Lady, I trust you enjoyed yourself?" his eyes settling on the weaponry scattered about your person. Leona replies "Thanks to Sir Fedex here, I did. Merl, have the rest of your crew make double rounds tonight, I'm afraid I may have attracted the wrong kind of attention at the tavern." The hired guardsmen says "It shall be so my lady." Merl then looks to you and says "Thank you for escorting Lady Leona tonight Sir. My men will see her safely inside." Leona gives you a warm smile and embraces you in a tight hug. "Yes, thank you for the company tonight Sir Fedex. May Avandra bless you wherever you go, whatever you do." She gives you a quick kiss on the cheek before turning and passing through the heavy gate where another guardsmen waits to see her inside.

Roll off:5
Riona laughs at her final roll, throwing her hands in the air and exuding good cheer.
"Now 20 years ago I might say double or nothing, but I think thats a habit that would do better to stay buried!"
She thanks each of them for the good time and wishes them luck and heads back to the table she had been at with Lander, intent on finishing her drink.
OOC: haha fair enough! ah i deleted the old round of rolls to replace it with the one d 6 so its saying the warning thing, i can make a new post with a new roll if you prefer

Pleased with himself, Fedex turns on his heal and makes his way back to the tavern, walking with purpose and paying special attention to the shadowed locations. As he travels, he realizes he's thirsty after all that dancing and resolves himself to remedy the situation when he gets back.
His mind then begins thinking of the delivery work offer that might be forthcoming and increases his pace. He hopes he hasn't missed the opportunity.
Riona: The group seem genuinely happy for you and your win. Thedra says "You're welcome to join anytime dear!" while Gimble notes "She's a natural! Cheers!" and he takes a sip from his ale. After gathering your winnings, you make your way back to where Lander was sitting. You see he's actually moved tables and he now sits at a table in the back with the large man you spoke to earlier and a Dwarven man you haven't met. You see Lander point in your direction as he says something to the Dwarven man. Lander sees you and he waves you over to where he is sitting.
OOC: We'll say you went 6 rounds at 9 copper a round, so you've won 54 copper. Nice! I didn't include your contribution to the pot when I calculated your winnings. That way you don't have to remove the 18 you put in the pot, only to add it back right away. I'm not worried about the warning message, I follow what you did. Also, I'm totally fine with you already having conjured your familiar!
All: I probably won't be able to post much more until later tonight, 08:30pm-ish Central Time. Thank you all for your patience and again, I am really impressed with your posts so far!
Riona quirks an eyebrow, it seams her new friend is a real charmer. She grabs her drink and leisurely makes her way over to the new table, leaning against an empty chair but not quite sitting down.
"Well don't you gentlemen look like your discussing something important, is it bold of me to assume you've found a bit of work."
She smirks at Lander and gives him an excited smile, hoping they are about to enjoy the taste of adventure they they both been craving.
OOC: Ah if only all rolls were low roll wins haha!
Lander knowingly smirks back at Riona. "Riona, this gentleman here is Khubic. He may have some work for us." He motions to the dwarf.
He then points to the large goliath. " And this beefy gentleman here is called Keg! " As he says that, it's obvious he's trying to make a joke, yet hope that this behemoth doesn't try and rip his arms out of his sockets. He smiles and pats the large fellow's arm.
Lander looks up from his book.
