„One slot for every common type of coin... can someone give me copper and platinum, please?“ When he has the coins he inserts one of each type into the appropriate slot.
The coins go in fine and can be heard landing on other coins. The gargoyles don't move, nor does anything else happen. The whole ordeal is very ominous.
„Maybe more coins? It sounds like there a lot of them inside the pedestals. Come on, we don’t need any if it now anyway.“ When he gets the coins, Allister puts one of every sort into the slots and listens for any noises. He repeats it over and over again. After 10 coins he looks at the group...
Glimbul carefully and methodically checks the eastern hallway, even checking the ceiling now. A six-foot-tall green devil face is carved into the far end of this hallway, its mouth agape. Painted murals on the walls show faceless humanoid figures doubled over in pain, clutching at their heads and ears all down the hallway. Upon reaching the end of the hallway, Glimbul spots a door at the top of a steep staircase with a hooded figure painted on it. The image of the figure resembles the other door from before where the figure stands cloaked and tall with its hand held out, palm forward. Glimbul routinely checks the passage on his way back and discovers a seam in the north wall. The rogue discovers that one of the fingers in the painting of a man doubled over in pain is actually a button.
Glimbul shows Boosey where the button is and asks for mage hand assistance. When the button is pushed, the door slides to the side, revealing a small chamber. Closer inspection reaveals the chamber to be a ten foor cube. Waves of heat blast out of this cramped room. The walls are scribed with relief carvings showing volcanoes setting cities ablaze. Rows of tiny holes are bored into the floor and the ten-foot-high ceiling. A human skeleton embedded in the opposite wall holds an iron sconce with a burning red candle in it.
Allister steps closer to get a better look but takes a step back as soon as the heat gets unbearable. „Death to fire... this could be it.“ In one swift motion he pulls his crossbow off his back, aims at the candle and fires a bolt.
Boosey tries mage hand to put the flame out, but the magic vanishes as soon as it crosses through the doorway. The same thing happens when Nenne puts a crossbow bolt through with the light spell on it. Tearing the candle from the wall works, but the candle grows back and relights moments later.
Glimbul asks the party to look away while he attempts something else. A few seconds later, the party turns back to the rogue, holding a live frog. The frog croaks.
Boosey sees the frog vanish, and on a hunch goes to look in the pit by the gargoyles. There’s no sign of it there, but on the way back he has an idea.
“Allister’s bow shot put the flame out for a few seconds, right? What if he shoots it again and one of us uses the cup to go over there and extinguish it for good. There should be enough time to do that! We could even have some water in the cup’”
"If we do this, I insist we attach a rope to whoever goes inside. Magic does not penetrate the threshold, and we may need to effect a swift rescue. Moreover..." the cleric pauses to take a calming breath before continuing. "This barrier dispels magic. What if the protective spells I cast on you are also undone at the moment of your ingress? I have precious remaining resources to cast them again."
Allister draws his rapier, sets the blade ablaze and holds it inside the room. The moment it crosses the threshold the flame is extinguished, but when he pulls it back the it is aflame again. „This doesn’t just affect your spells but also our equipment.“ He sheathes the weapon, pulls out the rope and ties it around his waste. Then he takes the cup from his pack, pours some water from his waterskin into it and says „I’ll go first, wish me luck. I need you now, Tymora.“ He swiftly walks to the candle, pour the water over the flame. Once it’s extinguished he puts the cup over the candle.
Glimbul exlclaims, "He said lava!" Everyone dashes to the button that just popped back out. The three companions all push the button in and are horrified to see an empty chamber with the last remnants of molten lava draining into the holes bored into the floor. There is no trace of Allister. Boosey picks up the end of the rope snipped off by the door and looks from it, to Nenne, and back to the rope.
Nenne spends many moments looking the devil fave over, searching the carved folds for something, anything to be of help. The cleric call to the others to help; Nenne continues the seach, only for everyone to come up empty.
Nenne slams her gauntlet against the face in frustration and turns to the others. "Wasted time and nothing more! I may have killed him for it. I've no ideas but to follow him." And she starts walking back toward the candle room.

Allister steps closer to get a better look but takes a step back as soon as the heat gets unbearable. „Death to fire... this could be it.“ In one swift motion he pulls his crossbow off his back, aims at the candle and fires a bolt.
The flame goes out when the crossbow bolt connects with it. Six seconds later, the flame reignites and the button on the wall pops back out.
Allister looks at Glimbul in disbelief. „Is that your pet? Did you keep him in your pocket the whole time?“
Looking around embarrassed, “Uh, not exactly... this is a recent thing...”
He then places it on the floor outside the room. “Alright, go in that room and dont stand on any of the holes if you can”
The frog obiediently hops into place. When the flame is put out, nothing happens that hasn't already happened.
Boosey sees the frog vanish, and on a hunch goes to look in the pit by the gargoyles. There’s no sign of it there, but on the way back he has an idea.

The moment Allister crosses the threshhold, the door slides shut with such a speed and force no one could have predicted.
The party can hear Allister yell something but they cannot make out exactly what he says

The three companions all push the button in and are horrified to see an empty chamber with the last remnants of molten lava draining into the holes bored into the floor. There is no trace of Allister. Boosey picks up the end of the rope snipped off by the door and looks from it, to Nenne, and back to the rope.
Nenne's face goes bloodless.
"No body. Things on this floor pull us into other dimensions. He must be somewhere else! He could be dying, we need to find him now!"
She grasps her holy symbol (Guidance) and runs over to inspect the green devil face.
Nenne spends many moments looking the devil fave over, searching the carved folds for something, anything to be of help. The cleric call to the others to help; Nenne continues the seach, only for everyone to come up empty.
