Boosey gives Funderbuck a wink and says to the elf,
"Please, pay no heed to my friend here. He's done that to us all without realising over the past few weeks, it's all down to his thirst for knowledge pay it no heed. It comes from being a scholar locked up in a library for most of his life, misguided curiosity can do strange things to a person sometimes. He means no offence by it" He flips the elf a coin. "A drink, on me, with our apologies?"
He says to Funderbuck quietly, in Gnomish. "Just trying to smooth things over, sorry friend"
For a moment he considers trying to charm the elf, but reconsiders even as the words start forming in his mouth, it could really make matters worse if it goes wrong. He gives Clove a greeting nod as the Tabaxi sits down at the table. Once the waiter leaves he asks, "What do you make of the barman, Clove?"

4 Just in case, I made a perception check if I see Funderburk and Boosey talking to the elf. If I do, I will cut my conversation with the sailors short and join them. Otherwise I RP the following.
"Aye, mate, we anchored two strikes of the bell ago. ´Tis been a wonderous journey, full of dangers and tales worth telling. See this?" I point to my scar. "That´s a gift from a now dead pirate. Some tendays ago we were ambushed by some well-know scum, thinking our ship to be easy prey. Ha, but they were surprised when the tables turned." I start an exaggerated story of our fight with the pirates, leaving out essential parts (like the name of the ship) and embellishing my battle prowess in a believable way. I use whatever is on the table (plates, mugs etc.) as props. Making a dramatic gesture at the end "And that was the thrust that sent his sorry arse to Umberlee´s loving embrace. Ah, what a glorious fight. Anyway, enough of my exploits. Tell me, what´s this port like. Places to go? Places to avoid? Places to find pleasurable company?" I wink at the sailors.
Taking a few seconds to study the inn, seeing the rowdy sailors Clove leans over to the gnome and says to him. "I'm not a big fan of this place. Seems too busy for me to rest easy. Though I dont trust that barman. I feel I can rest here for a few days but I need to find somewhere quieter for my beast." Feeling Koda's heavy breathing in his jacket pocket.
Herman: In reply to your question before any commotion, the elf gives you a wry smile and says, "No, we don't provide the service, but there's plenty to be had if you're in to that sort of thing. Though I must say, there are cleaner services of that nature the farther away from the docks you go."
Allister: One of the sailor pipes up immediately with, "Executioner's Run! Tis on the west side of the city, right outside the main gate. You've not seen entertainment until you've watched them big lizards racin' each other down in that trench!" This is when Allister notices the tense exchange of his companions, but the sailor continues even as Allister moves to leave, "I wouldn't want to be any of those poor sods down in that pit with the bigg'uns when they start runnin'. I'm bettin' more'n a few a them got bit clean in half as that lizard ran by. Haha! That's what I call a snack!" As Allister moves across the common room he can still hear the sailor speaking. You suspect he'd probably go on talking if everyone left just to hear himself speak. He mentions something about Madam Nix's House of Wax and then something about, "It ain't right that a whole building be made a gold..."
Boosey, can you make a persuasion check?
To the rest of you, if you feel like a check might be applicable, go ahead and roll it and say what it's for. It helps keep forum games moving at a nice pace, and if it's not applicable, we can just ignore it.
I walk over to my companions but keep that odd bit of information about the house of gold in mind. Once the elf has left I listen to Funderburk´s story. "Well, sorry if I put you in a bad position. But at least we know what kind of establishment we entered and he had the good sense to see we´re not worth the trouble. Any of you interested in checking this out or do we mind our own business? I mean we didn´t venture across The Shining Sea to help some poor sap with his troubles. We got information to collect, places to go and figure out how to help each other."

persuasion check 8 - the smile as he spoke to the elf waiter was a little too sincere to be convincing!
Boosey nods in answer to Clove.
“Might just be we’ve been traveling too long, it feels strange to be back in civilization. Too many old salts here, and who knows who they work for”
and he silently mouths the word “pirates “ to the group at the table.
“We might find a knife at our throats while we sleep if we stay here”, and glances at the Tabaxi behind the bar, who is engaged in some light banter with a customer.
“I have an old acquaintance I was going to look up in a place called Fort Beluarian. She’s been here in Chult for quite some time. It’s possible she knows something about this...”; he glances from side to side and lowers his voice. “Curse.”
I’d be happy to help you too Funderbuck. You never know, we might get a story out of this!”
”If this spreads, and who knows what or who is spreading it, it will bring a nightmare to the world.”
"I heard you taking about this curse on board once or twice. I haven´t figured out yet what this is about you´re the only people I trust in this cesspool, so if you have need for another fighter I´m willing to come with you. And Clove looks like he needs a change of scenary more than anyone else. You know how long it will take us to travel to Fort Belurian? But first I have some inquiries to make at the docks." I turn to Herman. "If you could think about something else but poon, you wanna join me? Some more muscle might help to convince the local scum to stay clear of our path."
Any charm Boosey was able to muster earlier seemed all but lost on the elf as he walked away with nary but a glare. He avoids the party's table for the remainder of their stay. It seems that if any of you are intent on buying a room or using any other service here, you'll have to talk to the other waiter, a Chultan man, or the tabaxi bar tender.
“Unfortunately, I have no idea where Fort Beluarian is. I’d feel more comfortable if we asked for directions somewhere else. We may get an answer we don’t like here” and he grimaces into his ale. “Hey, ho”.
Funderburk, with a new found respect for the gnome, was appreciated by his efforts to diffuse the situation. Agreeing with his companions that they should move out quickly, but also not knowing where the fort is, came with an idea. "Allister, I believe that we should not intervene with what is going on, sadly. It would be wise if we first collected more information. Maybe-" the Vedalken brought forth the parchment paper where he had previously copied down the lion symbol that was on the inns walls-"This could be of use to us. Once we set out to Fort Belurian, we may be able to inquire some more knowledge on whether this is just a simple inn or not." He looks to the sailors Allister was previously talking to, the back to him. "We may be able to ask those fine gentleman. You should ask them yourself since you are better.. affiliated with talking with people." He said in a nervous chuckle, once more trying to remove all creases on his cloak and pulling his hood over his face a bit more.
He puts the parchment paper back inside his pack, taking note that it may be wise to also draw the elf he had an encounter with. However, he knew he wasn't the best at drawing fine details.
"I guess these fine gentlemen over there are as knowledgeable about the finer inns in this town as you are navigating a boat during a thunderstorm, Funderburk. They are simple folks, interested in simple pleasures. Nah, I propose a different approach. Why don´t you guys do some shopping? Go to the market, buy some fruit, and ask the vendors for a respectable inn. If a name comes up twice, that´s a good place. Try different people, different races to get a more reliable picture. Anyone got another idea? And stay away from the whores. But maybe it would help youo to loosen up a bit." I smile at him, clap him on the shoulder and do my best to get as many creases as possible in his robe.
Herman sips his drink and raises an eyebrow, answering little by little to everyone:
Allister, sincerely I am up for a fight, no doubt, but what do you want to do ? They haven't provokde us yet...
As for understanding the disease, we could investigate...
And the fort: there is huge market, there are institution, there is everything: let's just head out and ask officials for distance to this fort: if not that distance we buy a map, shall not we?
"Herman, I don´t want to fight anyone here. But are you up for some information gathering on the docks? I might need a brutish face on my side, and you might find some quick and cheap pleasure."
"That is a good idea. I shall go with the Tabaxi since he is more suited in the common places here than that of myself." Funderburk begins to stand,"I shall head off immediately then."
He bacons Clove to rise and leave within, already having another idea in mind. While he looks for himself and his companions another place to stay, he shall ask Clove to speak with people and see what they know about the lions symbol. That maybe it isn't all that it seems to be. when he reaches outside, he waits to tell Clove of his plan.
Before Funderburk left he told his companions, "It may not seem like it my friends, but I am good with maps and navigation. If we need any assistance towards the next settlement of onwards, I may be of help in that region also."
I yell "Wait a second." I ask Boosey "What you wanna do? Come to the dock, go to the market or stay here and wait?"
Depending on Boosey´s decision the two or three of us head back to the docks. "Look out for any ships with too many armed men. Ships with a hodgepodge of goods on board. Guys with too much gold or gems in the attire. It´s a pirate way of keeping your valuables close to you. I hope to find either former crewmates or at least other professionals who might know about the whereabouts of a certain half-orc. Herman, stay away from the healthy whores, they´ll steal your gold once your pants are. Look for one that coughs, she´s too weak to run." I give him a big smile and turn my attention towards the ships.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Boosey finishes his ale with a final gulp. "Docks first, then the market. There's something I forgot to ask Captain Fisk, it won't take long. Then the market, I could do with some new clothing", and he pulls at his shirt collar, now stained with sweat. "Something a bit looser and cooler. If we're lucky, we might find a map of the area for Funderbucrk too."
For DM
If we head to the docks, Boosey asks Captain Fisk to carry a letter, on the face of it benign, but containing an agreed message about his safe arrival in Chult, back to Waterdeep (or as far as possible anyway).

As a human and a strange blue man exit the door to The Golden Lion, Sthara makes her way in. As they pass one another, she takes a second glance and feels a twist in her stomach, unsure if they were part of the group she'd seen before. She continues into the building and looks around until she sees a number of people with the travel bags she'd seen.
Sthara presents as a human woman of average height and build, but the small patches of yellow scales at her collar reveals her yuan-ti blood. Her skin is sallow, her hair long and black, her eyes yellow and piercing. She wears a flowing, thin blouse, cinched at the waist with a simple belt and simple pants–nothing unusual save for the shining pearl at the end of her necklace, which is tight like a collar around her neck.
She approaches the table of travelers and looks into their faces as she speaks.
"Molo, uyakholelwa ku-Ubtao? Na khe–" Realizing they may not speak the local language, she switches. "Ah, sorry. I do not know if you share belief in Ubtao or other gods, but he drew his maze on you so that I would see and meet you. But...I do not know why. You are not from here, yes? Why have you come to Chult?"
Funderbunk, the strange blue guy, leaves with the tabaxi. You see two humans and a gnome about to leave.
IC:
Allister looks puzzled at this woman that approached them. "Since you speak in Common to us you have already figured out that we´re not native to this island. Regarding the gods, I have never heard of this Ubtao you´re speaking of. And, no offense, I don´t feel comfortable sharing my reasons for this journey with a stranger. And what maze are you talking ´bout?"

Herman enters the inn with the others and takes off his wolf-head helmet shaking out the rain.
He enjoy his companion's entertainment and merrily claps hands during the performance.
He lends his ears to what Funderbuck discovered about the waiter.

Speaking of which...do the Lion serve also THIS type of entertainment?
