After finishing his meal, Zylxian says “From my experience, you never want to leave a job waiting. Somebody else could take it, or the clientele... runs out of time.” He pushes his seat in and begins to move towards the board, saying “I’ll be back, gonna see if there’s any interesting jobs.” Zylxian will check out the board, seeing what the 3 current jobs listed are.
Alban drains his mug of ale. "Well, I suppose I'd better beat the competition to the punch, then." He says. He walks over to the notice board, reading the notices over Zylxian's shoulder.
Zylxian and Alban see the following posted on the board:
— HELP WANTED —
Dwarven Excavation Quest. “Dwarf prospectors found ancient dwarven ruins in the mountains southwest of here, and have been working an archaeological dig seeking treasure and relics. They need to be warned that a white dragon has moved into the area. Take the warning to them, then return to Townmaster Harbin Wester to collect a reward of 50 gp.”
Gnomengarde Quest. “A clan of reclusive rock gnomes resides in a small network of caves in the mountains to the southeast. The gnomes of Gnomengarde are known for their magical inventions, and they might have something with which to defeat the dragon. Get whatever you can from them. If you bring back something useful and don’t want to keep it for yourselves, Townmaster Harbin Wester will pay you 50 gp for it.”
Umbrage Hill Quest. “The local midwife — an acolyte of Chauntea named Adabra Gwynn — lives by herself in a stone windmill on the side of a hill a few miles south of Phandalin. With dragon sightings becoming more common, it’s not safe for her to be alone. Urge Adabra to return to Phandalin. Once she’s safe, visit Townmaster Harbin Wester to claim a reward of 25 gp.”
Lamlis looks over to Zylxian and Alban. "So, are there any promises of vast riches for heroes brave and bold?" Lamlis picks up his flagon and finishes his ale. He gives a small smirk.
Alban walks back to his chair. "Perhaps not vast riches at the moment, but there's a promise of beginning to make a name for myself," Alban answers Lamlis. "A man has to start somewhere, after all. It sounds like everything in this town revolves around the townmaster."
Zylxian says over his shoulder, “What do you think, should we start out with informing people of the coming dragon, or going to obtain a Gnomish invention? If the four of us grouped together, we could get these jobs done rather efficiently, and I’d much prefer that to going solo.” Perhaps just from experience in Luskan in dealing with similar job boards, would Zylxian know whether it’d be out of place to take multiple jobs at once? Also, whether you should remove the post from the board when you take the job, or just leave it there until you return having completed the quest?
"There is strength and wisdom in numbers," Alban agrees with Zylxian. "I'd appreciate not being alone with my sword. The jobs sound simple enough, but you never know where they might take a turn for the worse."
Zylxian moves back to the table, saying “I’m of the mind that obtaining the gnomish invention sounds the most profitable of the listed ventures, but if the rest of you would prefer another task we can follow that path instead. My only worry would be if somebody gets the job before us, as such magically enhanced items are hard to come by”
Lamlis stands and walks over to read the board himself. He reads the three listings and then walks back to his seat. "I wasn't originally planning on doing anything special, but it sounds like the dragon could be a problem for this whole community and possibly the outlying land as well. I'm game if you all wanna go obtain the gnomish inventions......... maybe fate has brought four half-elves together for a reason."
“I’ll go pick up the job from the board, and then probably retire for the night. I’ll be down in the morning, and from there we can set off for Gnomengarde.” Zylxian will move to the quest board, take the Gnomengarde quest off of the board, and go to the bar, trying to get the attention of the bartender. “Good evening, do you have any open rooms for the night?”
"You know, it's been a while since I slept in a warm bed. I think that Zylxian has the right idea. I've travelled a lot the last few days and could use a quiet night. I'll see you all bright and early hopefully." Lamlis gives a smile and wave to his new friends, picks up his backpack and quarterstaff, and then walks over to the dragonborn Zylxian talked to. "Hello, by any chance would you have another room available?"
"I came here for a chance at spotting the dragon so going where there is a magical device against the beast sounds good to me. And you can never go wrong with more coin in your pocket." Elias gets up finishing his water and ale quickly and heads to the dragonborn "I'll take a room as well, here is the 5sp."
The rooms are sparsely furnished, with a bed, old wooden nightstand, and a well-used rug. Still, with several blankets piled on the beds, it makes for a better night's rest than one would find on the road.
Alban's vision:
As sleep overtakes Alban, he finds himself back in the cold streets of Neverwinter, in the very alley he first felt the call of the Shadowfell. Instead of an angry half-orc before him, a pale elvish woman stands in dark steel armor, silver crown upon her raven black hair. In her hands she holds a shadowy blade, the very weapon that comes to Alban's call.
"You chose wisely to travel to Phandalin," her voice comes from within Alban's mind as she finally makes eye contact. "Just as your decision to accept my pact was an intelligent one."
Examining the blade for a few more moments, the woman hands it to the half-elf.
"Grow in strength, Alban. Soon I will call upon you for a task, a challenge greater than you have ever faced. And you must be ready."
The elvish woman explodes into a swarm of ravens, and the vision fades...
The night passes quickly, the rays of sunlight and chirping of birds welcoming the arrival of day to Phandalin.
Elias, used to waking early for his shifts on the ship, wakes and goes through a meditative prayer to Valkur. When finished he walks into the main room and finds an empty table to sit and order breakfast since he skipped dinner the previous night and he will wait for the others to awaken.

Alban nods. "These all sound simple enough," he remarks, half to himself and half to Zylxian.
Lamlis looks over to Zylxian and Alban. "So, are there any promises of vast riches for heroes brave and bold?" Lamlis picks up his flagon and finishes his ale. He gives a small smirk.

OOC
Zylxian, you know it is generally proper manners to take one job at a time, taking the posting to avoid others taking the same quest.

I'm game if you all wanna go obtain the gnomish inventions......... maybe fate has brought four half-elves together for a reason."
Alban nods. “I can’t argue with your reasoning. It makes sense to start with the gnomes.”
“I’ll go pick up the job from the board, and then probably retire for the night. I’ll be down in the morning, and from there we can set off for Gnomengarde.”
Zylxian will move to the quest board, take the Gnomengarde quest off of the board, and go to the bar, trying to get the attention of the bartender. “Good evening, do you have any open rooms for the night?”
“Certainly, young man,” the silver dragonborn pulls a key off of the rack behind him, then opens a logbook. “Five silver for the night, mister...?”
“Yes, good sir,” the dragonborn barkeep procures another key. “Five silver per night.”
Anyone else who wants a room can pay the five silver and go from there, or you can describe how else you’re spending the evening.
"I came here for a chance at spotting the dragon so going where there is a magical device against the beast sounds good to me. And you can never go wrong with more coin in your pocket." Alban also rents a room for the night, handing the innkeeper five pieces of silver.
The rooms are sparsely furnished, with a bed, old wooden nightstand, and a well-used rug. Still, with several blankets piled on the beds, it makes for a better night's rest than one would find on the road.
