Alban nods and follows Lamlis. He checks his sword to make sure that he can easily unsheathe it if needed. “Let’s keep our eyes open. Anything could be one of those mimics.”
As the party travels to the garage, Elias's sharp eyes note nothing out of the ordinary...until they reach the door to the garage. A glint on the ground catches Elias's gaze, where he sees a splatter of a small purple liquid, seeming to form a trail from inside the garage to the south, continuing beyond current sight.
In the garage, the party finds two large gnomish contraptions in the otherwise empty room. They are fashioned out of barrels and other mechanical gizmos, giving them the appearance of a crab. Each has a hatch on the top a creature could use to enter and drive the contraption. While clearly designed for use by gnomes, it is possible a medium humanoid could fit inside with some discomfort.
Elias notices the splattered purple trail seems to start or end underneath one of the barrel crab contraptions, where he can see a dagger stained with the purple goopy liquid.
Elias points out the purple goop and the dagger to the rest of the party. I'm not sure what the significance of the dagger is, maybe one of the gnomes tried to protect himself.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lamlis takes a look at the dagger. "Hmmmm, I wonder what that is. Could it be blood?"
Lamlis would like to make a nature check to see if he can possibly identify if this is animal blood of some sort, or a fluid. After that, he'd like to make a survival check to check for any unusual tracks or to possibly follow some of the purple goo.
Lamlis determines the purple goop is indeed blood of some kind, though not from any natural animal. Whatever creature it was, the dagger was clearly used to injure it, being the start of the trail.
With all hands on deck searching for a trail, the party discovers small splotches of the purple liquid that lead out of the garage. The trail leads south from there...
Thinking back on the map Elias says "I can't remember what the next room is but I do remember that there is some kind of storage place south of here I think for wine. Which means barrels and other things a shapeshifter might take the form of. If we lose the trail I suggest going there."
Lamlis whispers. "This is definitely blood of some sort, but not from a natural animal. The trail looks like it's heading south anyway so let's follow that. If we lose it, we'll head towards that storage room." Lamlis loads his crossbow and slowly walks in the direction of the blood. "Everyone keep their heads on a swivel. This creature could be anything or anywhere."
((OOC: sorry for the delay in the post today folks))
The party makes its way south, following the splatter of purple goop. This leads them through a room in which a large crossbow contraption is set up. The gnome manning the weapon waves them through, having been informed by the guards of the visitors' arrival.
Alban does not notice anything out of place or suspicious as the party travels.
The path leads to a storage room, 40 gallon barrels set into wide alcoves in the wall. Four barrels at the south of the room are tapped, the eight barrels in the north and east remaining unopened. The trail tappers out about the center of the room.
Elias will touch both of his companions and cast Guidance on each one, before moving to the center of the room and keep a Guiding Bolt spell at the ready to cast.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lamlis quietly stows his crossbow on his backpack and draws a dagger. As he feels Elias touch him and the magic course through him he turns. "Thank you."
He then carefully moves towards the center of the room where the blood trail appears to end. He's looking around for any unusual marks or anything in the room that may be amiss. He will also help Alban look around the barrels if he doesn't see anything else that catches his eye.
Investigation (Plus the additional die from guidance): 6
With the help of Elias's spell, Lamlis and Alban hear a faint dripping coming from one of the barrels in the northern alcove...a small puddle of familiar purple goo is forming on the floor. Realizing its been found, the barrel explodes into action, many red eyes opening, toothy maw stretching to reveal a long purple tongue.

"To arms!" Alban shouts as the mimic reveals itself.

((OOC: I'm going to be tied up with work for the rest of the evening, so I'll go ahead and post my actions for the first round of combat.))
Alban will cast Hex on the mimic, granting it disadvantage on Strength checks. He'll attack with his longsword. Hex has a concentration duration, so I'll need to make a Constitution Save if I take damage. I'll go ahead and roll it.
Alban nods and follows Lamlis. He checks his sword to make sure that he can easily unsheathe it if needed. “Let’s keep our eyes open. Anything could be one of those mimics.”
Elias sighs and follows the others, "Hopefully this won't take too long."
(Perception check on the way there for anything that seems out of place or seeing any duplicates 24.)
