"Hm. It would be interesting to see if the same sort of beast was involved in the earlier attack, but I'd rather know what's there now, if possible."
Kellen stands up. "Let's bring our horses to the stables and talk to the boy."

"Those who aren't recovering haven't spoke about what it was...people gossip but there's probably a dozen beasts that are known to stalk the forests. Plenty of tales told to scare those who would wander there," Halla calls out having bought a platter of bread, cheese, and salted meat. Halla places it on a nearby table and gestures to it. "Eat. You can speak to the boy here. I'll go get him," she adds next leaving the tavern.
The party has now been in the village over two hours. It's late afternoon and nearing the end of summer the days are getting shorter. Hours of daylight are numbered.
Kellen offers a brief thanksgiving to Ioun before beginning to eat. "So we'll talk to the boy, but do we have a plan for tomorrow beyond looking around the ruins? I mean, besides the usual 'you try not to get killed, I try not to let you die' one?"

Malvech is quick to eat his meal as he waits for Hala to bring the boy so they can talk to him. As he finishes he reaches for his tools and begins to fiddle with them.
Pyre too eats fairly quickly. After, as they await the boy, she sits there trying as hard as she can to snap her fingers...on her clockwork arm. Having no success as always but she continues regardless.
As the party eats after five, ten, then twenty minutes pass before Halla returns looking flustered and a little frantic.
"Rummy," Halla calls out. "He's taken the cart horse...he's gone after her," she adds tears beginning to spill out of her eyes as she brings the note to her husband who takes her into his arms and holds her.
Halla cries into Rummy's chest as he looks around to where the party has gathered with his white eyes as the monkey too looks to the party.
"I think you have much more of incentive now to get started. Please, he's just a headstrong boy," Rummy begins.
"He'll be killed by whatever out there," Halla sobs loudly as Rummy tries to calm her down.

"We'll find him, I promise!" Jasper quickly jumps to his feet and rifles through his backpack to make sure he has everything he may need. He looks to his companions and in a frantic voice says, "Cmmon, we gotta go!" He starts to head to the door.
Malvech moves from the table as he grabs the spear off his side, heading to the door quickly. "I was hoping for a bit of rest but a fight is not unwelcome either. Let us show we are worth the coin."
Kellen quickly finished his drink, thanks Halla and Rummy for their hospitality, and joins the others outside.
"It's near nightfall, and the forest looks pretty heavy. Can anyone pick up the horse's trail once we get out of the village? Maybe we can find the boy before he gets in trouble..."

"That's reasonable, but I'd prefer proof. Let's head that way; we can check for signs of travel as we go."
(OOC: I believe it's close to night? AFAIK, Pyre and Malvech have darkvision and Jasper and Kellen don't. Does darkvision work like human night vision (in that looking into a normal light degrades it substantially for awhile)? Kellen has a lantern and torches, but I'm wondering how we should manage marching order so we can all see, but give the darkvision folks maximum advantage...)

OOC: Darkvision: Many creatures in fantasy gaming worlds, especially those that dwell underground, have darkvision. Within a specified range, a creature with darkvision can see in darkness as if the darkness were dim light, so areas of darkness are only lightly obscured as far as that creature is concerned. However, the creature can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
It's late afternoon on a fall day post harvest. The days are shorter so I'd say you've got 4 hrs max of daylight left.
As the party approaches the forest near the temple of Melora they notice the standing stones again as well as opening where the forest has been cleared for what looks like the foundation of another building that has since been abandoned. The forest is thinner nearing the village but it looks considerable thicker tbe further in. Possibly passable by a horse as difficult terrain. On foot they might move faster and with more stealth.
OOC: Roll any checks you'd like ex: nature, survival, perception, or investigation to move forward.

Jasper looks around for anything out of the ordinary, possibly for anything dropped, or signs of which way a cart may have gone. Hes also checking around the standing stones.
Pyre can clearly see where the boy must have ridden a horse into the forest but she also notices a stack of stones, a cairn, that has one large stone and a medium stone with a small stone atop it. That's the direction the boy must have rode the horse because along there is a small footpath there is freely disturbed earth and broken branches in the trees that are pressing in on the footpath!
Kellen studies the stelae but another than them being very old he can not determine what language the runes are meant to convey.
Jasper notices the same things as Pyre but also see about 60ft ahead something large lumbering in the forest.
