Ahhhh, this is the life. Yup. A steady schedule, a regular paycheck, not to mention benefits and retirement. Of..a parcel delivery employee.
Our prologue story begins in the Luskar Deliverers’ main warehouse on the north bank of the River Mirar in Luskan, as you all are given your marching orders by your commander and supervisor, Parcelmaster Lennart Bassk, a sharply dressed half-orc with bright eyes, a broad physique, and an impeccably groomed pencil mustache. Uch, that mustache. It's so impeccable.
That's right. You deliver parcels. You're all employees of Luskar Deliveries. One of top delivery companies along the Sword Coast. Just..well, close to United Parcels of the Swordcoast (UPS), and Fed up Express (FedEx). But the company certain has the regular postage service, the Ungodly Stamp Place that Sucks (USPS) whacked. It's Monday morning. Back to work after a not long enough weekend, that's for sure, and it's certain another freezing day. Welp, clock in time. Parcelmaster Bassk calls you all in the warehouse as you all mingle a bit before today's pickups and deliveries.
"We’ve been contacted by a number of people throughout Luskan, all of whom have deliveries bound for the north - this'll be a special job for you guys. I'm having the dockworkers currently outfitting the Icebreaker to take you northward. I have assembled a map of the city, since you knuckleheads lost the last one, and a list of people with packages for you to find so you can pick up their parcels. They shall pay you well in advance - don't lose that gold, it's Luskars Deliveries - and you shall be paid again by Luskar Deliveries when the deliveries are complete for your work. Be dressed in armor and hold weapons, my friends. Your journey to the north will be dangerous, but even this city of Luskan is not a safe harbor, as i'm sure you all know. Ha! Look at me, talking to you about such things as if this is all brand new like the first chapter of a book in a game we've never played. Anyways, be ready, and look to this map and list. Gather three of these packages from the list; the rest shall be gathered and delivered to the Icebreaker by your other co-workers. Safe travels, my friends. In other words, don't **** up this time.”
Parcelmaster Bassk gives you all the map of the city of Luskan above and a list of people seeking to deliver packages. Here they are. Choose three.

Dragonbait, an unusual reptilian creature who has been frequenting the One-Eyed Jax, a tavern on the northern bank of the River Mirar near the bridge to Blood Island.
Rool, a shady figure who associates with kraken-worshiping occultists; can be found at the Cutlass, a pirate-infested tavern on the Dragon Beach.
Vanifer, a disgraced cult leader with an affinity for fire; can be found sulking in the Ruins of Illusk.
Nezznar the Black Spider, an ambitious drow with a ridiculous accent and a flair for the dramatic; can be found at the top of a lighthouse in the Open Shore.
I didn't know my father very well growing up. It wasn't that my father was an absentee parent, it's simply that as the third child of a powerful lord, I wasn't as much of a priority for him as my brother and sister were. My older brother was everything that a lord could want from his eldest son, handsome, intelligent, popular with the people, and skilled with the sword and magic. My older sister was similarly gifted with beauty and intelligence. My father gave all of his attention to my two older siblings and left me to be raised by a small army of tutors, butlers, and maids. My father was more of a stranger to me than anything else. I tried everything to gain my father's approval, or at the very least, his attention. But nothing worked. I was never as good as my other siblings and it was honestly as if I would live my entire life under the shadow of my more talented siblings.
So I prayed. I didn't have anywhere else to go and I didn't even know which god to turned to, so I prayed to everything that was capable of answering prayers. And something answered, although I don't know what. It told me that if I would pledge to serve it, it would give me the power I needed to make something of myself. And so I did.
The next morning, a sword appeared next to my bed and somehow, I knew how to use it.

Employee was arrested by and taken into custody by authorities in Luskan. Stated he felt “pressured” and couldn’t “make time” to complete his daily mail route. He told authorities that he rented a public storage unit for 10 CP per month for “the sole purpose of storing mail” that he couldn’t deliver. The postal service employee began hiding mail in 1280 DR. Court records stated he put mail he was unable to deliver in the unit from that time, until he was ultimately discovered in 1280 DR and pleaded guilty in 1281 DR.
Trying to defend himself, the employee told police that he actually did intend to deliver the mail inside the storage unit, but fell behind and was never able to. But he did note that he never destroyed any of the mail he hid. Agents from the United Parcels of the Swordcoast (UPS) Office of Inspector General reportedly found almost 5,000 pieces of mail in the storage unit. They discovered 328 pieces of first-class mail which included letters from royalty, the Department of Carriages and Buggies, several bank statements, and other tax return documents.
Employee was placed under home arrest for a period of 6 months.
Employee returned to the workplace in 1282 DR, and has an exemplary and clean record since returning.
"Sup! I'm Kai, I'm 24. I'm, uh, a fire genasi, if you couldn't tell. Wasn't always like this, used to be a human, but this goddess lady thought I was hot or something, and was like, 'boom, you're on fire now'. Still gotta figure out why she made me this way. Told me she would one day but I gotta serve her or something, but she wouldn't even give me her name. Been a couple of years though so I'm kinda just goin' with the flow now, you know?"
The Luksar employer looked at the genasi with an incredulous look about her face."...Okay. And why do you want this job?"
"Oh, right. I need the money-- I mean, shoot, sorry! Uh... I like... delivering packages?"
She stares dead eyed at the genasi now, he nearly squirming underneath her hard gaze... then shrugs. "Good enough. You're hired."
"What?!" He asked, surprised at the sudden approval. "Seriously?"
"Yeah, but don't make me change my mind. Or set the place on fire." She gets up and begins to leave the room. "They really don't pay me enough for this shit. Seriously, why am I even here?"

I was raised by the cold, and it comes with me even as I left my home in the Spine of the World and boarded this ship, telling the cold that I wish to see the world from a different angle. Born in an average family, Lucas wanted more from life than to simply live, reproduce and die. He wanted to discover the world and breath in the adventure. So, running away from home, he quickly got lost and wounded up in an elven settlement, where he was then properly taught basic survival skills, before being sent back home. His master told him that, if he wanted to explore the world, he should get a job that pays him to do so. So, when he heard the mail service was hiring, he thought it was god-send. Despite being born in a common home in Luskan, Lucas has spent most of his life out in the wild, and no longer knows where his family went, not that he minds. Additionally, he seems to hold a sense of "prove yourself" mentality, as he often is challenging fellow co-workers and civilians, to random contests. This differs from anything from games, acts of physical prowess, or just a straight up brawl.
Ava grew up on stories of how her family followed Bruenor Battlehammer into the breach to retake Gauntlgrym. She heard of how her father fought back to back with King Emerus Warcrown. When the King was gravely wounded, he carried the body of the King from the battle. Ava always wanted to be like them. A great warrior, known throughout the lands for her bravery. Growing up in Gauntlgrym, Ava was surrounded by heroes and legends. When she turned seventy, she set off to the north, seeking the land of her mother, Kelvin’s Cairn. Signing on, Ava was excited to be on her way again.
A hawk cries overhead as a small group of figures picks a path through the tall grasses. A mutilating sun beats down on the travelers, attempting to dry them into husks. "Lathander's balls, it's hot out here!" A red-faced dwarf articulates between passes of her handkerchief across her face, "I agree with sweaty over here, Kazimir. Are you sure this package is worth it?" the human whines, as he stumbles over yet another dip in the ground. A deeply tanned and tattooed hand shoots up to stop the group. "Quiet, my friends. I believe we are being watched." Kazimir, squats down, motioning his companions to do the same. the elf picks up a stone from the ground, hefting it once, twice, and THOOM! Chucks it off to one side with a lightning quick twist.
GRRRRAAAAAW!!!A massive Insectoid barrels out from under the ground near the stone, hissing and spraying acid.
"Quickly, let's move!" Kazimir sets out like a puma, lithely twisting a path forward, their 2 companions following as quickly as they can. The trio makes their way to a copse of wooden yurts in a clearing beside a small watering hole. Kazimir stretches their long limbs to the sky, basking in the slight breeze coming off the water, their auburn hair flowing a bit from the wind. After retrieving the package, Kazimir strides over to a little girl sitting and watching her mother work on a loom. Leaning down Kazimir offers the small wrapped parcel to the girl. "Here you are, mon cherie. Safe and sound." They give a kind wink as the girl begins to tear the wrapping off the parcel. Inside, a gentle linen doll with cloth-wrapped clothing and yarn hair. The girl wraps her little arms around the elf's neck before rushing over to show her mom what came. A chuckle like the sound of fresh falling rain emanates from the elf as they stand back up and returns to the other two. "The most dangerous deliveries often are the most satisfying, no?"
This is an unexpected development. How is serving as a mail-carrier in Icewind Dale going to advance either of our goals, exactly?

With a eager smile and equally eager cheer, Lucas adds, "Alright, sounds good! Let's do this!" Dressed somewhat well prepared for travelling, with a fur-rimmed hood and thick leathers, not to mention the blades and bow he keeps strapped onto his back. As if remembering his manners, he gives a small laugh and adds, "Oh, right!" He then pounds his fist over his heart and puffs his chest out slightly, "Name's Lucas. Lucas Ward! Feel free to rely on me if you need to!"
Kai was bright eyed and bushy tailed when the parcel master called him in with a few other interesting individuals, the genasi getting a good gander of those he was going to be working with for the time being while he spoke of what they needed to do. After given their assignment, Kai listened to them introduce themselves and vote of which packages they should pick up and deliver. "Totally down to pick up the fire guys package for sure. I'm made of fire, so he'll like me right off the bat, yeah? Other ones I ain't too picky on."He says, adding in his two cents with a nod before stopping and realizing he hasn't said his name yet.
"Oh, shit, sorry-- Nice to meet you guys! I'm Kai! Still kinda new to this whole business stuff, but I think they thought I'd be a good fit here since, hello, I'm hot." He clicks his tongue and winks as he gives a pair of finger guns at noone in particular, only for a set of fire bolts to shoot out from his fingertips and set a random box on fire. "Ah, ****, not again!" He cries out, running to extinguish the box with some magic.

Ava is a stout, darker skinned dwarf. Her dark, blacked out eyes scan everyone in the room quickly. "Good to see everyone. I don't care who we visit, I just want to be on our way north as soon as possible." Sitting down on a nearby box, her armor clinking loudly, she pulls out her ax and begins to sharpen it. Ok so here we were. Our groups first pickup. Maccath the Crimson, a member of the Arcane Brotherhood. Studies on the ground floor dining commons in the Hosttower of the Arcane. It was about 9am when you left, and you went by company coach to the Hosttower. LUSKAR DELIVERERS was emblazoned on the coach. A true business entity it was. You arrived at the Hosttower about thirty minutes later. Like all days, it was cold, and very crisp outside.
Your instructions were clear. Head to the three customers, pick up their parcels and the gold, and return to the warehouse. It was written in bold so you'd understand what to do and not **** up. After all, this isn't brain surgery here, whatever that is, and you guys are delivery men and/or women. This is what you do, and have been doing for a bit now. Should be easy, right?
You arrive at the base of the Hosttower of the Arcane, a tower that seems to grow out of the ground like a crooked, skeletal tree. It looks just as organic as it does artificial. Standing at the entrance is a brutish-looking guard with an athlete’s build and wearing a leather skullcap. He glowers at you as you approach. His name badge says Surly, Gatekeeper Supervisor, Morning Shift.
"Oi!" Surly says, holding up a hand to halt you all. "What business have ye?"
"Hello my brutish looking friend!"Kai greets the man with a wide grin, leaning in a bit to read his name card. "Ah, Surly! Nice to meet you, sir. We're from Luskar Delivery! Deliverers...? Uh, anyway, we're here to pick up a package from..." He looks at the post above with squinting eyes. "Maccath the Crimson. They around?"

The ground literally shakes as the gentle giant walks into the Luskar Deliverers headquarters for his morning shift. His malodorous scent appears in the room before he does, likely annoying those of more refined tastes (looking at you, elves). Having to stoop down low to fit through the doorways, he grunts his pre-coffee morning welcome to the assembling crew. "Morn. Shrek's my name. Deliverin's my game." A simpleton, he's a beast of limited intellect, and a goliath of few spoken words. He prefers to let his intimidating presence do all the talking for him.
When he mounts the company coach, the floorboards creek under his enormous mass, and the beasts of burden tied up front let out a foreboding whinny as they suddenly shudder in realization of the weight they're about to be required to pull. The coach is noticeably keeling over to one side as it hurls down the road (the side that Shrek happens to be sitting on), comically. Shrek lazily hums a strange tune, off-key, to himself on their journey. His finger is stuck up his nose for at least half the journey, rooting around for that special golden nugget he knows has to be in there, somewhere.
Approaching Gatekeeper Surly, Shrek leans out the window and flashes his pearly whites (with several teeth missing....but that's a story for another day). Waving, he calls out in broken Common "Luskar Delivery...here to pick up delivery."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

"Names Ava Battlehammer of Gauntlgrym. The boss asked me to help with security on this one. Stand behind me and I'll keep you safe. No Battlehammer dwarf ever lets their allies fall." The shield on her back carries the well known symbol of house Battlehammer, a storied and famous dwarf family full of heroes.

PICKUP NUMBER ONE - MACCATH
"Hello my brutish looking friend!" Kai greets the man with a wide grin, leaning in a bit to read his name card.

Last to know and first to be blamed...
As a free action, can I regret my life choices?
Those who have spoken to Surly, meaning, so far - Shrek and Kai, make a persuasion roll.
Alright goddess lady, lend your guy a helping hand here...
Please?: 18
If a fire genasi could sweat, he would be doing it right about now, glancing to and fro to the others and back to the guy, nearly pleading to them for help by his eyes alone.
