Rogram shakes his head. "It wasn't me." He glances around at the others, looking for any sign of guilt. He didn't think Karib, Merric or Akira had anything to do with it, but now that Jamna is so surprised ...
"I don't know why anyone would think I was the perfect cover. I was trying to befriend them. I wasn't quarrelling with them or anything. I helped fix their wagon!" He huffs. "A lot of good that did me."
Rogram finishes wiping down his sword when the sound of laughter catches everyone's ear. He looks at the wall and then raises his eyebrows at the others.
He smiles. "If anyone would like to do a little snooping, I still have the energy to turn a couple of you invisible."
Merric shakes his head at Rogram “I don’t think you were the cover, just a convenient fall guy. Being a member of the cult is the cover. No one would expect an inside job, especially when they began accusing you. But it doesn’t get us any closer to the real killer.”
Merric looks over at the wall as their neighbors begin to get loud and turns back to Rogram “Invisible? That’s a neat trick, but probably won’t work next door. But we could use it to explore the warehouse downstairs.”
Conversation mumbles through the walls from the adjoining room in the silent moments. "Who's got the best ears here?" Carlon whispers, pointing to his ear and then the wall between you and the cultists' room.
Karib looks up at Rograms words, realising he was the target.
Thinking perhaps that he should first try mundane means before using magic to eavesdrop, he nods. "I'll see what I can do."
He motions everyone to be quiet then focuses his mind, prays briefly to Gond, and presses his ear to the wall, moving occasionally in search of a better location.
He gives it a few attempts, moving cautiously, before deciding if an alternative approach is warranted.
Moving from section to section of the wall, Karib settles on the area of paneling where the words of the people in the adjoining room seem to carry the loudest.
For Karib:
"...kicked his ass right in front of the warehouse..." Another round of laughter and some side conversation muffles a few sentences, before you make out short bursts of some sentences, "...don't know, Bog Luck don't tell us that, he's the only one that knows...no way, above our paygrade...let him deal with the lizardfolk...tunnel through the strong room..."
Karib steps back from the wall as if struck by it. "What?" he frowns, then shakes his head.
Gently lifting a pouch from around his neck he draws out a feather before glancing at the others. "Thieves?" he says in a whisper. "Why is it I'm never prepared?".
Sighing he closes his eyes and summons Gond's aid again focusing all of his attention on their words an voices, hoping to identify the people as well as overhear their plans.
I really thought he had Clairvoyance prepared, but he does not!
So...enhance ability for Wisdom (advantage at Perception); he will take his time listening intently, trying to piece things together.
Your senses fine tuned by Gond's blessing, the words come to you with some increased clarity, though it still becomes difficult when multiple voices speak at once.
"...pretty sure Gristle Pete thinks it's rats, did you hear him rambling earlier?"
"Do they just come by every night, or what? How do they know which crates are ours?"
"...think so, Bog Luck takes care of all that, it's why he's the one in charge of where they go once they're in the warehouse..."
After some more off-topic conversation, the voices fade and are soon replaced by the light sound of snoring.
Karib starts to repeat what he's hearing in a faint whisper for the others, but stops quickly because it interferes with his focus on listening. When he finally hears the snores, he waves everyone over to the other side of the room and speaks in low tones. "You were right about the walls" he says to Carlon.
He closes his eyes, trying hard to hang on to recall all of the details, aided by the focus that Gond has granted him.
"It seems that we are not the only ones interested in treasure, but these ones seem like common theives, perhaps stealing from the Lords or from the cult. I am not sure..." he shakes his head, deciding to repeat the words as best he can before his memory becomes unreliable.
He rubs a hand over his scalp, wrinkling his nose. "I barely caught the start: " he says, "...'Bog Luck don't tell us that, he's the only one that knows...no way, above our paygrade...let him deal with the lizardfolk...tunnel through the strong room'"
"Then with Gond's aid, it became clearer: '...pretty sure Gristle Pete thinks it's rats, did you hear him rambling earlier?' " Then another voice, 'Do they just come by every night, or what? How do they know which crates are ours?' and finally '...think so, Bog Luck takes care of all that, it's why he's the one in charge of where they go once they're in the warehouse...'"
"After that it was snoring. I don't know if this means that they are stealing from the road builders or from the cult, or both. I think they are probably stealing for the cult, otherwise what's the meaning of 'dealing with the lizardfolk'? "
He sighs, making note to petition Gond for a different gift tomorrow, then does what he can to gain any insight he might on whether they might be working with or against the cult, trying to remember what he knows about Gristle Pete...the cook? and Bog Luck. Finally, he focuses on the voices he hard: trying to put a name or a face to any of them.
Forum search is useless. I searched for Bog and get one hit, and not "Bog Luck"! "Gristle" produces no results.
"Bog Luck," Rogram recalls. "That's who they say runs this place. The dwarf I talked to said he handles the inventory. And Gristle Pete's the guy who was cooking dinner. I tried to talk to him, but he wasn't interested."
He looks around at the others, trying to keep his voice low.
"You think Bog Luck puts the cult's grates in a particular place, and lizardfolk come and get them in the night? Are lizardfolk known to work with the Cult of the Dragon?"
What I do is go page by page doing a search (Ctrl+F) for the keywords.
"Lizard folk and dragons seems like a natural mix to me," says Karib quietly, in answer to Rograms last question, then he rubs his scalp again, brow furrowed in thought. "So...let me get this right...you think the cult moves the crates out at night? Or are you saying that the lizards steal from the other crates to supplement their wares?"
He looks at Rogram, then glances at the others, still frowning.

For Rogram:
You don't read any signs of guilt on any of your party members, though Jamna is a little harder for you to read than the others.

Rogram grins and points both index fingers at Karib. "That guy right there. You can't get anything past him."
To Merric, the half-dwarf says, "Just say the word, and poof, you're like glass."
OOC: Giving a little more time for Karib's response before resorting to botting him or making rolls for him.
