Rogram's mind wanders. They could follow the caravan at a distance. Surely they'll have to follow an established route. "Does anyone know what's north of here? Does this road head straight to another town, or are there other roads? If we try to follow them at a distance, is it possible they could lose us?"
“I don’t think we will stand a chance joining as guards this time. They already have enough of their own. I would like to take a look at the warehouse they have been visiting by the northern gate. See what we can find there. We could use the ring to find the wagons later if they leave.”
"I'll second that," Carlon says. "A warehouse like that has gotta be public, like the stables. I'd like to see what's going on there too. We can probably learn some good information as long as our questions aren't directly about cult activity. And are the ones we followed the only ones in the city?"

Jamna purses her lips in thought. "Hmm, well...Neverwinter. But I thought the High Road was pretty much just a swamp now. Maybe the road's in better shape now that Neverwinter's being rebuilt," she says. "Either way, what say we get crackin'? They aren't gonna hang around here forever. Seems like it's now or never to check out that warehouse."
Akira pipes in, “I will get the route scouted to the north by my familiar and we can get more details when it returns. In the meantime, it seems like we have a more immediate goal in the warehouse.”

Rogram looks down at himself. "I can't keep using magic to hide what I look like." He looks at the others. "Maybe we should adopt some physical disguises to help keep our movements a secret."
OOC: Something to keep in mind is that Akira can only see through the eyes of her familiar while within 100 feet of it. If Akira is using her familiar to scout the road in some other way, I'll need to know what she has in mind.
Is everyone going to the warehouse together, or just a subset of the party?
“How close to you have to be to the ring to make your magic work?”
Karib grimaces, "Close. 1000 feet. But I maybe be able walk around for a few minutes. So if that's the case, maybe a little more."
As the others discuss scouting the warehouse, he nods. "I am more than a little interested in that myself."
"But..." he grins, "I'm not the stealthy type. I look around in other ways."
As they watch the warehouse and, possibly then one to the north, he tries to discern where there might be groups people inside. At night, he looks for lit windows...and during the day time, movement in windows or sounds. To Akira he says, "If you or your friend can suggest a location, I can look and listen. Maybe that will help if you want to explore."
(@DM: After the first rest, he will have loaded Clairvoyance)
Merric grins back at Karib. “There’s more things out there than being stealthy. It’s nice to have other ways to look around, being sneaky only works until you are caught.” He gathers up his gear and prepares to move out. “I think we should go check out the warehouse now, before it gets any later.” He looks over at Jamna “On the way, maybe you can tell us why the cult may be interested in Neverwinter.”
Akira consults the group. “Since I will be out of range for telepathic contact, it might help to set binary parameters for my familiar to report on (owls tend to not have a complex use of common). Since we are concerned with whether or not the road intact through the swamps, perhaps that is the starting point. Any thoughts?”

“On the way, maybe you can tell us why the cult may be interested in Neverwinter.”
Jamna shrugs as you walk together toward Northgate. "Your guess is as good as mine there," she says. "Isn't that what we're following 'em for? Surely they can't go any further north than that though, not with wagons. If the road's as overgrown as I thought they wouldn't even make it that far. If they were moving the goods any further north they'd have had to take it by ship."
The warehouse looks to be in well repair, as much or more so than the surrounding structures. A well-crafted sign along the side of the building reads, "HIGH ROAD CHARTER COMPANY". There are wagon-sized sliding doors along the side of the building, and a smaller human-sized door below and to the side of the sign.
Merric nods at Rogram. “Maybe we could get there first, maybe they are going somewhere else along the way. Maybe we should ask the High Road Charter Company if we could rent a wagon. Let’s go see if anyone is home.” Merric approaches the smaller door, knocks once, and pushes the door to see if it opens, looking for all intents and purposes as if was visiting on business.
The room inside is dusty and cluttered. Another door behind a desk is open, leading to the larger warehouse behind the office, where a dozen men and women are hustling to and from a number of wagons. Between the desk and the door is a human man in his thirties, with short black hair, bushy eyebrows, and finely groomed facial hair. Standing at the desk, he looks up from the cluttered paperwork he is rifling through and flashes a grin at the party.
"If you've come for work, you've come at a good time. We've got a convoy leaving in the morning to take some supplies to a work camp. Three wagons joined up today, so we're a bit short on guards," he says. Walking out from behind the desk, he outstretches a hand to Merric in the lead. "Ardred Briferhew," he introduces himself.
Rogram looks around at the others, then says, "This would be good, but is it safe?" He wishes at least one of them had commented on his plan to change their appearances again. Maybe some wigs or paint or something? He remembers when Jamna saved them from the spikey things in their bowls and frowns. And then they tried to blame him for a murder. What ever happened with that, he wonders.
Merric can’t believe their good fortune. He had thought that posing as guards would be a dead end, but here was another opportunity open in front of them. “Well met, Master Briferhew.” Merric returns the man’s grin with his own. “Merric Greenleaf at your service. As it so happens, we have a bit of experience as caravan guards. I will talk it over with my friends, I’m sure we can make a deal if the price is right. Where is this work camp and what is the danger? These new wagons, are they going to the camp too, or somewhere else along the way? We just want to make sure we know what we are signing up for, you understand.”
Karib nods, "Aye, I may be open for work. Where would we be heading? And would it be by boat or caravan?"
Though doubtful that they should hire on again as guards, this seems like a good opportunity to get some information. He prays quietly for Gond's assistance should it be needed..

"The work camp we're headed towards lies 200 miles up the coast. We're a consortium of guilds and noble houses partnered with Lord Neverember. Now that he's rebuilding Neverwinter, the road is needed again. This camp sits on the edge of the Mere of Dead Men; we carry supplies there, which allows us to work closer and faster to reclaim the road from the swamp," Briferhew answers the questions. "Most trips take right around a tenday. The road is solid right up to the work camp, so it will all be land travel."
Merric nods at Briferhew. “If you give us a moment, I just need to discuss with my companions.” Merric pulls the others outside and whispers. “What do you think? The cultists may recognize us if we serve as guards again and be on higher alert.”
He looks at Rogram “Maybe we should have listened to Rogram’s ideas on disguises more. But it may not matter, we know where they are going, we can head to the camp on our own.” He pauses. “Are we sure the cultist wagons are the ones that just joined? The involvement of Lord Neverember with the camp matches with the wagons we saw.”
Merric looks around to the others. “I think it may be worth heading up the road on our own to check out the work camp, either ahead of the caravan, or following behind it at a distance, but what say all of you?”
