Smoke prods a few of the small holes with his weaponry, but has little time to deduce a pattern to them. He does, however, discover their purpose.
Yevele fiddles with the lock of the chest for a moment, feeling unsure of the mechanism, but eventually hears a click as the tumblers release, unlocking the chest.
You hear a snap from beneath the chest, followed by a hissing sound like dozens of angry snakes -- or like liquid moving through open tubes. A moment later, liquid sprays out from the dozens of tiny holes in the walls and ceiling. Wherever it splashes onto the floor, the moisture on the stone bubbles and smokes.
Rogram and Smoke notice the circumstances quickly, but Karib and Yevele, huddled over the chest, take 6 acid damage from the full impact of the liquid (Rogram and Smoke take half damage).
Within moments, the chamber around you is filled with acidic mist.
Impatiently waiting, Rogram frowns at the others as they poke and prod the various things around the room including the holes in the walls. It is right when he begins to open his mouth to protest when the trap is sprung. He notices Smoke reacting like a cat whose tail has been stepped on. The half-dwarf instinctively reacts as well, and manages to avoid a direct hit by the acid spewing for from the nearest hole. He opens his mouth again and inhales to yell. Immediately feeling his lungs sting, and he coughs instead, and throws his free hand over his nose and mouth. He begins waving his shield arm, trying to fan the mist away from his face.
A smile quickly fades from Karib's face as the spray erupts around him. He is too slow to escape the effects of the acid, but still flees the room, back the way they came, and watches from the corridor, wary of and fumes that may waft out.
If and when it clears, he moves back into the room cautiously.
Yevele will follow Ereshion out of the room, using her cloak to try and remove the acid from her skin. Clearly, being a competent thief took more expertise and experience than the monk had.
As Smoke is prodding the holes in the wall he jolts back as the trap springs and only gets hit by a few drops before racing back to the other side of the room staying just out of reach of the mist.
What the.. more traps.. .He looks around to see everyone reaching the corrider from which they first came. What of our prisoner? he says trying to gaze through the mist to see where the surviving guard was tied up.
As painful as the acid was on the skin, the real danger quickly becomes the burning sensation in your lungs. The brief moment you spent in the midst of the mist is deeply uncomfortable to all, and nearly excruciating for Rogram and Yevele, who take 16 acid damage internally.
However, the mist fades and disperses throughout the chamber within the next minute, revealing its wreckage. The once smooth floor has been pockmarked with the effects of the acid, and the unconscious captive now lies dead, skin and rope largely eaten away from the same acidic effects.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Karib is still gasping for air when he sees Yevele collapse to the ground. He quickly turns to Rogram, "Help me clean this off and hold her still while I work!"
He does his best to wash the acid clear of her mouth and airways and anywhere else it is affecting her, then does what he can to revive her. When he is done he looks around, "We need a good long rest."
Rogram does as Karib instructs, discarding his shield to be able to use both strong hands. He watches the cleric work, feeling fairly helpless. Suddenly, he has an idea. He makes a gesture with one hand while saying a quick incantation, and Yevele's head and shoulders are magically cleaned of acid. Feeling a little more helpful, the half-dwarf again tries to make Yevele comfortable while Karib works, though his own breath is a bit ragged as his lungs continue to burn.
Yevele startles awake under the care of Karib and Rogram, coughing and retching as the last of the acidic mist works its way through her lungs (returning to consciousness at 1 HP). The mist seems to have cleared from the shrine chamber. The chest opens safely for Karib now. Inside are a string of pearls, a gold-and-sapphire ring, and a pouch containing a half-dozen masterfully cut and polished precious stones.
For Rogram:
The ring and the pearls were almost certainly taken from Greenest. The work to create both were likely even done at your father's smithy.
Rogram follows whoever into the room toward the chest. "We should be more careful," he chastises the group. "First, the stairs, then the strips, then the other stairs, and now this. This place is clearly dangerous. Maybe we shouldn't touch anything we don't need to touch. What did we need to open this chest for anyway?" But then he notices the jewelry. "Wha-?" He roughly grabs the ring and pulls it close to his face, turning it slowly in front of his narrowed eyes. He then sets his eyes on the other pieces before grabbing the string of pearls and does the same with it. "These are from Greenest," he says, sounding either appalled or surprised. "I think my Pa made them." He looks at the others, the blood leaving his face ashen. "Do you think? No, you said he wasn't here," he says, looking at the bald human. "But what if he is? What if he's still here?" He looks at the stairs leading further into the cave, clearly contemplating rushing forward.

Karib tries to assist Yevele in any way he can.
Smoke will try to see if the holes in the wall are in a specific pattern and try to feel if they might be keyholes or spyholes.
He will try to use a dagger or rapier tip to prod them to see if he can notice a keyhole pattern.
WIth Karib's question he shrugs I have a delicate touch but im no burglar!

Yevele, breathing harshly, suddenly collapses unconscious shortly after exiting the chamber, her body struggling to breathe past the acid.

Karib pauses in surprise as the acid just disappears, "Clever. Very clever," he says. "My parents would be proud of you," he adds with a laugh.
"Comes in handy at the forge," Rogram responds gravely. "Is she going to be ok?"
Karib nods, "Should be. I don't think there's much more I can do that doesn't require magic."
As he is speaking he looks back into the room, wondering if it is safe to enter.
@DM: Can we see anything in the box and is the room safe-seeming now? If so...check it out.
