Eldeth responds soberly, "My and her kind have always hated each other. They fell from Moradin's light and embraced darkness." She turns and looks at Oak and says with a small smile, "It's fine what you said. No harm done as you didn't mean it. If you did, well..." She trails off and pops her knuckles menacingly before smiling to let you know she was teasing.
Caelynn, as you finish your spell, you are startled to hear a woman whisper in you ear, "The only thing magical is the necklace. It emits powerful evocation magic, particularly fire evocation." You turn and see a head and shoulders of a woman floating in the air next to you. She is translucent and has skin the color of a deep blue. Her long, flowing black hair falls past her shoulders and fades off like the rest of her. She has pointed, sylvan ears, and her eyes are a solid made green color. You sense that your spell you casted has summoned her forth. No one else can see or hear her.
Caelynn visibly jumps when she hears the strange voice, hand reflexively flying to the one dagger still strapped to her waist. She whips her head around and relaxes only slightly upon seeing the spectral blue woman. Listening to the explanation, she nods along - it seems that her spell has worked, but definitely not in the way she thought it would. "Okay. Thank you?" She says, still a bit confused.
Looking around, you see that the plates on the walls emit a faint abjuration aura, and the China hutch full of gemstones emit a strong aura of abjuration. The fireplace emits a faint aura of evocation. You see your dagger, Aimon's cloak, Oak's ax, your bracers, Oak's charm necklace, the invisible chest, Dawnbringer, and something in Oak's pack all glow with magic. You see a shadowy nimbus surrounding Trill emanating from her pouch. It clings and swirls around her, and you can see tortured faces drift and face through the darkness.
The women cocks her head and looks curiously at the ring. She says, "Actually, that ring is magical, but it's missing something. It has a weak evocation, abjuration and configuration bound to it." She stares at it with a thoughtful expression. " Hmmm... Toss it in the fire, " she commands.
Jimjar says, "Well, I'm off to bed. See y'all in the morning." He opens one of the doors and steps in the other room.
"I'm clocking out too. Goodnight everyone," Eldeth says. She goes into a different room. He
Stool hops down and wanders over to the China hutch and investigates it.
(I love it !!! Caelynn is just confused, and a bit on edge)
"Probably some sort of measure against theft," Caelynn comments with a pointed glance towards Aimon. Scooping up the ring, she walks over towards the fireplace. As she passes Stool, she tells him, "You can look, but don't touch." Then, after a moment's hesitation, she drops the ring into the flames. She still isn't quite sure about this whole thing, but she figures it's worth a shot.
When Eldeth and Trill threateningly tease Oak, he cheers up again, and in an offhand kind of way, he says, “Ha!.. Well if I’m ever driven mad again by evil spirits... ... feel free to take your best shots!”. He chuckles, remembering. But then he remembers hitting Aimon and looks away, sheepish again.
Then Caelynn spins and draws her blade at nothing, and at precisely the same time he’s already taken two steps towards her and goes to draw his axe, before realising it’s not there, and also realising that Caelynn’s fine. He stands down. He even re-sheaths an axe he isn’t holding. The muscle memory is too deeply ingrained for him not to go through the motions.
As Caelynn approaches the fire, Oak retrieves his actual greataxe and re-sheathes that one for real. He finds he can relax better with it, than without it..
Oak mutters back to Trill out of the side of his mouth as if no one else can hear but they can, “I don’t know... it’s just magic stuff I guess!?... none of it makes any sense to me”.
“m’Lady, are you alright??... did the magic not work? Are you okay?”. Then Oak speaks slowly, like speaking to a child who’s done something silly... but they didn’t mean to.. “Should we get the ring back from the fire now?...Huh?...Yeah?..... ...Rings don’t belong in fire do they!.. No..... ....”.
He mouths to Trill again, “Maybe she’s been possessed by evil spirits this time.... If she goes for me, save yourselves.....”. He inches closer to Caelynn and the fireplace...
"The spell worked.... I think. And I'm not possessed." Caelynn positions herself protectively between Oak and the fireplace. She doesn't know how long the ring needs to be activated or whatever is happening, and she'd rather not interrupt the process and cause an explosion or something. "I summoned a blue ghost lady that apparently you all can't see, and she seems to know a lot more about magic than I do, and she told me to put the ring in the fire so I did, and..... now that I'm saying it out loud, it really sounds like possession." It feels like she still has free will, but maybe that was part of the trick. Throwing the ring in the fire was a pretty weird thing to do, and she had hardly even questioned it....
Turning to the blue woman, she asks, "Are you possessing me?"
Oak stops still, obviously conflicted, but he says, “I trust you m’Lady.... But if you’re possessed, let us know somehow... Blink twice for yes, once for no.... ....”. He stands there waiting for a blink... but at the same time starts to realise that’s a silly code... too late now...
The ring falls into the fire and is lost from view for a moment. You watch as the fire dims and flickers as it is drawn into the ring. The fire funnels into the gem embedded in the ring, and the gem glows a furious red. You watch as the fire disappears as it is wholly absorbed by the ring. Only cool cinders remain where the fire was.
Caelynn holds up her hands in an 'I told you so' gesture, grin widening. "What did I say? There's a method to my madness." She scoops up the ring with the point of her dagger, just in case it's still hot, and offers it to Trill. "It should work now. Still don't know what it does, though." She glances back to the abandoned pile of items in the middle of the floor. "The necklace can summon fire. The tiara and the painting are ordinary. Nice axe by the way, Oak, I didn't realize it was magical."
Trill hands over the ring.

"Just looking," he says as he examines the hutch and the gemstones inside.
