Krom listens carefully as Rhogar explains the information he gathered about Ten Town and the perpetual winter that grasps Icewind Dale. "If the sun has not been seen in two years, I fear that indeed the result of some powerful magic or event. We will have to figure out if behind this there is a creature, a group of clerics of the Frostmaiden or a powerful magical item. It may be probably a mixture of all of those."
Chip would have spent the day providing some much needed entertainment to the townsfolk. After his performance he would provide fireworks and pyrotechnics.
"Most likely...We should also expect that given the lengths some of the people have and likely will go to 'appease' whatever is truly the cause of this terrible weather, that we may not be as initially welcomed as perhaps could be hope for, bravery and good intentions or not."Rhogar bowed his head and crossed his arms on that note. "With the weight of such oppressive conditions, it is not unlikely that we may SEE things that more polite society may not accept. So with that in mind, we may wish to slightly curb old habits, least we find ourselves chased across frozen wastes and besieged at all sides."

"Curb what habits?" Chio would ask wish a grin as steam billows from his nostrils in the cold air. "I for one cannot recall ever offending anyone.... recently " he would add with a smirk
"My guess is he refers to stepping in and saving or setting 'right' what someone else is doing that may seem wrong to us. If there has truly been no sun for two years they will be a sullen and desperate people doing desperate things. We may not be able to solve every problem and may need to focus on the big problem, not every small one. Hard to say until we get there and see what is really going on. They have been isolated for so long strange things will certainly happening. We'll need to be on our guard."
Chill says in response to Chip's question.
"I've studied the map and am certain I can guide us there safely."
"I have played in some rough taverns... so long as they arnt sacrificing virgins or anything like that, I don't think I'll have any problems letting some odd behavior slide."
Rekuberk sighs at the thought of more cold but shrugs it off as he wraps his winter clothes tighter around himself, carefully placing the new set he had bought into his pack. "Let us hope that no such is going on. If so then I will gladly put those doing such a thing up for sacrifice first."
Hundelstone fades into the distance behind you as you make your way north on the Ten Trail. The folk in Hundelstone told you that you have a four-day journey ahead of you, if you don’t lose too much time to bad weather. The road stretches out before you, the sky gray with clouds and the ground white with snow. You travel northward, and the sound of the frigid wind's howling fills your ears. At least, you hope it's just the wind.
Just past midday, you come across a smashed cart at the side of the road. Two sets of tracks lead away from the cart into a grove of snow-covered fir trees.

As the group come across to the damaged cart Krom says "Something big, maybe one of those Yeti we encountered a few days ago did this. Let's be on our guard." The dwarf, shield and hammer at the ready, takes a better look at the cart (Perception18). "I think that we should check those tracks, we may find survivors or the cause of this. If it is a monster, I would prefer to deal with it before proceeding on." Krom then chants an hymn of Guidance on Chill to enhance his tracking skills.
"Better than any beast tracking US down later, for sure." Rhogar said, or more accurately came close to shouting just to be heard over the wind. Seeing that Krom had already chanted some hymn to aid Chill, the Bronze prepared himself to follow in the feline's wake. Unlike so many times before however, wherever Chill would go, Rhogar is never further than 10ft and equally on guard with staff in hand. And never far from Dragonborn tongue is an incantation to set his heart at ease and sharpen the mind.

"It is becoming clearer that it seems that powerful forces are at play here. Maybe that is why Sister Garaele, and her organization, was not able to provide us with more information." Kazri says with a slight worry across her face, with her halo slightly glowing. Kazri thanks Chill for his explanation, and she thinks that it might be hard for her to try not to step in every time she sees something wrong that needs to be righted.
At the sight of the smashed cart, Kazri immediately unsheathes her sword. The weather is so harsh, that can almost feel the cold hilt through her adamantine gauntlet. She bends down to look at the two sets of tracks. (Survival: 25)

Two sets of tracks lead away from the cart, moving parallel to each other. One is a set of humanoid bootprints, the other are the hoofprints of a horse. At some point, the humanoid tracks disappear, perhaps having swung themselves onto the horse. You continue to follow the tracks into the fir grove. You are wary of danger as you move through the trees but all is silent around you. After about a half-mile you find a grisly scene. The carcasses of a half-elf man and a horse are both frozen and half-eaten by scavengers. Wolf prints can be found in the snow. The man is clutching an iron lockbox, but has no key.
"Strange" says Krom as he looks at the half-elf and horse corpses "They have been eaten by wolves, but that does not explain what destroyed the cart. Not wolves for sure." The dwarf, without touching the body, takes a better look at the lockbox "Unfortunately, today I have not studied an hymn that could have allowed us to speak with the dead, so we will not be able to understand exactly what happened." Krom walks a few steps away from the body and putting his hand on the war hammer's handle looks in the direction of the wolf tracks.
"Quick.. grab the box and see if he has anything else of value or any kind of identification on him..." Chip would shout over the wind. "I really think we need to get back to the road. I don't think we can bury him, the ground is frozen solid. I guess we could burn him before we go so that he doesn't just lay here and rot." The dragonborn would suggest as his white cloak billows in the wind. "We can try to locate anyone that knows him when we get to where we are going." The dragonborn would finish as steam billows form his nostrils. The dragonborn wasn't cold thanks to his ring, but the blustering wind and snow pounding against him was still enough to take his breath away.

Chill circles around the scene looking for anything that might indicate what happened here. He also follows the wolf tracks, for only a short distance, maybe 100 feet. He studies the tracks to see how old they are.

Chill sees no other clues around the scene. He only finds the tracks of the wolves in and out of the area. Following the line of tracks that leave he determines they have been gone for some time and there is no reason to believe they are close by.
Kazri looks at the injuries to the horse. Besides the obvious signs that the carcass has been eaten by the wolves she sees no other injuries. The half-elf and the horse seem to have frozen to death.
