Tandal gives a shrug, "Well ye got me there. What are you talking about anyway, pirates? Never understood them, there be just as immoral ways of gaining wealth that is perfectly legal."Tandal remarks.
Caliban pipes in and says “What’s to be understood. They are criminals that like to pray on those at the mercy of the sea and unable to call for help.” He shakes his head in frustration and the charming pleasant smile that has been on his face since entering the tavern fades for a second and a look a pure hatred passes over him for a second, then he takes a deep breath and lets it pass. “I need to stay calm. There is nothing good I can do right now. I will have to wait to unleash my wrath on those that deserve it.”
Bayard glances at Allorian for a moment before grinning at Caliban, "I like that attitude, and perhaps, with my lord's permission here, we could see about finding those that deserve it? I know I'd like revenge, and it would be good to put and end to this threat to the sea lanes before it causes any more trouble. What do you say?" The last addressed mostly to Allorian, but including Xarrut, Tandal, and Caliban.
“You’re interested in an up-close and personal resolution?” Xarrut eyes Bayard thoughtfully before glancing at Allorian and Calliban. “I’m game. But they did take the ship out from under us last time. I’d like to hear a plan better than ‘try, try again.’”
Lucien sighed hearing the news that earls back home were fighting with each other, he contemplates everything has the barkeep a told as him as he sat quietly drinking his whiskey. It seems there a lot going on these, pirate attacks, rumors missing people and lights being seen in a place no ever goes, interesting. He thought as he sat his empty glass down on the bar, then the Half-elf got and walked over to the table that the barkeep pointed to.
“Excuse me, gentlemen, I apologize for interrupting your conversation, Lucien paused briefly he couldn’t help but feel a little awkward, normally he wouldn’t just approach a group of strangers. “ But I heard from the barkeep that one of you are interested in rumors of people who have gone missing, Now I don’t know if this is related to that rumor but I was told that someone named Baltak has been seeing lights in Oldtown. From what I have been told no one goes to oldtown especially at night.” He said then started heading back to the table had previously been sitting at.
"I do not know this Oldtown. Is it close to the water? Could it be the base of the pirates?" Caliban takes another drink and realizes his mug is empty. He sits it down with a sad look and adds "Well honestly Oldtown sounds good to me because I really didn't like the idea of going on the water and waiting to be attacked."
Allorian sits back a little trying to take it all in. "Bayard, earlier you asked what my family was going to do about the pirates, well, you are looking at it." Indicating himself "and possibly the rest of this crew here as they seem more than capable. Disposing of the pirates could be very lucrative. If we can gain support from some of the other noble families that would help but I don't even feel like we know what we need yet."
"A good question was raised as to how we get to these pirates if we even knew who they were. I certainly do not want to go sailing around waiting to get atta....." *trails off* "hmm, that could work as a last resort. Set ourselves as bait. You (calling Lucien back over), come share a drink, you obviously have some interest in the missing folk. And we have obviously started up some kind of impromptu group that are looking adventure. Is this pirate activity linked to the missing people? I say we find this Baltak and talk with him."
Tandal chimes in, "I we could I'd be happy to help put away some of those low-lifes. But I agree your tiefling friend here, if this is something we are considering we need a better plan other than a head first charge." Seeming to ignore the high probably these people hate him by now.
Hearing Allorian calling for him to the comeback Lucien turns taking a few steps back toward the table that group was sitting at. “ I would say it's more than likely that the disappearances and pirates are connected in some way. My name is Lucien by the way, he said.
Nodding at Lucien's comment- "I think you may be right and regardless it seems like our only lead at the moment."
To the bartender- "Where would we find this Baltak?"
"Anyone have different ideas? I am open to suggestions..."
Despite the circumstances Allorian seems to be enjoying himself. He seems to like being out on the road away from home. This is where he feels most comfortable and where he feels like he makes his best contributions to the family.
Bayard gestures for the dwarf and this other newcomer to take a seat at the table with them, "So where, and what, is this old town?"
As Bayard asks the question, the bartender is approaching the party with drinks and answers "Old Town is located to the north of the village. It is the remnants of the original town of Gillesburg. The town was destroyed by a typhoon hundreds of years ago. Rather than rebuild it, the people in the town decided to move further inland. It is now in ruins, which few people venture into. There are rumors of vast treasures in the ruins, but, most people who have gone looking for riches there have never been seen again. The few who have come back have not made their fortune, but, do mention the existence of bullywugs, kobolds, goblins, crocodiles, and other swamp dwelling creatures. A few claim to have seen zombies, skeletons, and other types of undead, but, those people are few and far between."
When asked about Baltak, the bartender says "After he finishes on the docks, he'll either come in here or head over to the Laughing Mermaid to hang out with his childhood buddies. I'm not sure where exactly he lives. His family are fisherfolk, but, he is a dockhand, so he may dwell in either part of the village."
Bayard grins broadly, “Seems we need to simply wait here for him. Another few rounds of ale until he arrives?” The fact that it is still early and this would involve drinking most if the day does not seem to bother him in the slightest.
Caliban adds “Simply waiting here is only a chance we will run into him. Did you miss the point that he might go to the Laughing Mermaid? If we want to increase our chance of finding him today, we need to split up and go have some of us go to the Laughing Mermaid. Once we have made contact, we can join back up and see what Baltak can tell us.”
Bayard sighs, "We've just met and you want to split up before the party even begins? Why not just wait here, get to know each other, have a few more ales, and if he doesn't show up shortly after sunset, we can go to that tea room?"
Bayard shakes his head, "Correction, my noble lord and leader here is buying, right?"
Just shakes his head a little and gives a small laugh, "Only because you almost drowned. A round for these gentlemen if you please. Just remember, we have business to attend to this night. Speaking of tonight, Xarrut, Bayard, do either of you have supplies you need replaced before we start shaking the hornets nest? Considering what happened, I believe that my family would be willing to reimburse you for losses, especially since you are both helping to solve this mystery."
Tandal gives a shrug, "Well ye got me there. What are you talking about anyway, pirates? Never understood them, there be just as immoral ways of gaining wealth that is perfectly legal." Tandal remarks.
