This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nikta is *real* suspicious of rich folk, especially ones like this guy, so in addition to his obvious dubiousness, I'd like to see if I can get anything out of an insight roll: 4 (edit: jeeeeeeeeez)
"Give us a moment to confer amongst ourselves..." I say and wave the others over a few feet from the table to huddle up, whispering: "He's obviously not a savory character, and it wouldn't surprise me if we're meant to never make it back or something of the sort. What are your feelings?"
Carxus is distrustful of the Tapwells, but he gets the idea that he may be a rich, kind of jerky guy who is used to getting what he wants, but he doesn't seem interested in harming you guys in any way. He just wants his stuff back.
Spoiler for Nikta:
You are initially suspicious, but then you think about how you could use that money. You generally like people who offer to give you money, so you think the Tapwells must be ok.
"Agreed. I want to distrust him more but can't find any firm enough reason to just yet. Still, lets be careful, if the place is still as loaded with those things as it was it's going to be a formidable task..."
I'm good to go if you lot are...

(You all let Ambrose know you're willing to take the job.)
"Splendid, splendid. Well, first things first..."
(The senior Tapwell motions to his son, Archie, who produces a coin purse and counts out 100 GP: 25 for each of you. He places it on the table in front of each of you.)
"Well, now. A few final things to discuss. It's early evening, so, I don't know what time of day you all would prefer to make your approach. I'll let the experts make those types of tactical decisions. Which of my sons will you be taking with you?"
(Archie and Augustus line up and wait for you all to make your choice.)
"Six of one, and all that when it comes to your sons. Augustus is already standing, so let's take him. With regard to when we leave - I was under the impression that goblinoids were generally nocturnal, maybe if we can show up at daybreak or shortly after we can catch them either by surprise or groggy. Any thoughts?"

"Smart thinking, but just in case I could always shift into something small and scout out ahead of every. Maybe a sparrow or squirrel." Lena twitches her nose and paws at the air, miming like she digging in the dirt.
DM's note: I was typing things up and I realized I'd be taking a lot of liberties, so I'll need a little more info. It's about a 3 hour trip to the Tapwell Compound. Dawn is at 6am. If I understand correctly, you all want to get up a 3am and get there right at dawn? Do you all hang around and drink and eat until then? Go take a nap to prepare?
(The Tapwells describe the compound and what you'll see when you get there.)
"I don't know if they'll have guards, patrols, anything like that, but it's a fairly safe assumption considering their numbers."
I'll grab a bite and get some rest after reviewing the map and getting a game plan together with the party. "Nice coffin shaped house you've got there..." I'll mutter at some point to no Tapwell in particular. "Leave in the small hours to get there around dawn, stop at a safe distance, then let Lena scout the situation and go from there? Gerard, I get the idea you're better at this sort of thing than... well at least myself. Any suggestions?"

(The party rests, eats, takes a nap, and is up and ready to go at 3 am. Augustus is very sleep deprived, constantly yawning and not going at a particularly good pace, but you all reach the Tapwell compound right around dawn. The fence and gate wouldn't be particularly difficult to get around, though the gate does seem to be locked up.)
DM's note: Lena, go ahead and give me 2 Perception rolls and 1 stealth roll. I need to know what kind of animal you've decided to go as. You have 3 choices of routes: North Orchard, South Orchard, or up the Main Road.
OOC - I'll put in a vote for advantage on the stealth roll, since she's tiny, would normally be in the environment and therefore not draw any extra suspicion even if she was seen, and it's dark and she's dark... in case you're the kind of DM that accepts that sort of nudging :)

(Lena transforms into a bat, starts flapping around, and goes to scout around the North Orchard. The rest of the party waits near the gate.)
Spoiler for Lena 1:
As you fly around the North Orchard, you see 2 goblin-like figures that appear to be standing about. You cautiously fly around the area and find a good vantage point to get a good look. Upon closer inspection, you realize that these are 2 stuffed dummies, designed to look like Goblin guards.
Spoiler for Lena 2:
You fly further into the Northern Orchard, but don't see much more.
DM's note: Lena, you now have a choice of flying towards the Cider Mill, or going south towards the main road. Also, the Stealth roll may not come into play, it was just in case. I do need 2 more Perception rolls.
Spoiler for Nikta:
Your nudging is duly noted. :) But if it does come into play, it may not be what you expect.
As Lena approaches the Cider Mill, she notices an area where a gas lamp is shining some light and heads towards that area. As she approaches, she sees a Goblin-like figure sitting against the wall, sleeping. Observing more closely, she sees that this figure is actually NOT a Goblin at all! It appears to be a Halfling, wearing a kind of half-mask on top of his head that, when down, would probably make them look like a Goblin. It's a young male, Lightfoot Halfling, who is also wearing dirty Goblin armor. His light snores ring out and drool runs along the side of his mouth.
Lena, you now have a choice of going to the Manor House, the Main Road, or going back to your party.
DM's note: Everyone else please give me a Perception check.
