(We don't have any full casters in the party so nobody even has 3rd level spells so no dispel magic. Mist is chaotic good.)
EDIT: (What if I threw a curveball here and revealed that Mist is actually lawful evil and everything he's done so far has been calculated and purposeful...? 😈😵😂)
(Jecob is LG, with LN tendencies. Wants to help people (G), but is subservient to authority and what he considers his duty (LN).
And for whatever reason, he has considered Mist an authority figure.)

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
WOW, what a great roll.
Varlan you take some time investigating the sigils, you pull out your All-Purpose Tool, and it spins around in your hand and starts to glow, then a burst comes from the sigil, a dark red energy flows and hits you, but you have read enough about thing like this and brace yourself. you take half of 12. Then go ahead and take off another 3 points after that. Ok so thats now half of 5 wich is 2.5, take away the 3 so yeah you take 0 damage.
Kraven looks around a little confused, "So I guess that worked in our favor, for once." He will then move to the the are of the floor that was pointed to examine the floor and sigil.
There is nothing left at this point of the Sigils. To the East is a door, and there are the 3 portal doors. Limus is unsure where the portals go, Kraven you feel comfortable enough to walk into one, and do so, you then walk right back out the same doorway. Limus thinks out loud "I wounder if the time Ihu’qancao has been gone has desolved the portals? Well to continue to the Groto we must go through that opening."
Bringing up the head to face his, "Do you know if we can step back through this portal or do we have to find another way back to this realm? Do you have any information of this other realm so bringing you with us is a good idea, or if you have no knowledge would you prefer us to set you free now?" Kraven asks Limus.
Kraven and Mist you two pick eachother's brains for a moment, and then figure out that the doors must be tied to Ihu’qancao's home realm and with out the conection the portals do not go anywhere, which might be a good thing.
In the next room
Large heat vents pour superheated water into the chamber. The area is incredibly warm. A single nugatl fish (the same kind we saw when entering the cave) guards a sword embedded in the ground in the center of the room.
Do we go in?

Kraven does not have access to Dispel Magic. :) And he woudl be classified as CN.
Varlan can not dispell, and would be NG.
"The sigils are there on the floor, I have no idea what to do to them."
Varlan do me a favor and make an Intelligence saving, I will say at advantage because you are being "aided" in breaking the Sigils.
(only one check is needed and Varlan has the highest Int saving throw)

Kraven looks around the room and then back at the portal, "Hey Mist, want to take a look at this or what do you know about portals?"
Kuatho stands staring, confused by the portals. He waits for further guidance.
If someone wants to make an Arcana check about the glowing gates they are welcome to do so. Other wise are we ready to move into the next room?

"Dunno what I'd learn o' portals from some decrepit ol' arches what barely serve as doorframes..."

(If nothing comes of these arcana checks, I'm ready to just head to the door.)
