Your voice doesn't seem to carry at the moment. Words, dialects, threats. The swarming mass of people in the melee makes it a challenge to get heard. Someone dives in to pull someone out, but gets kicked by another - likely by accident - causing someone else to jump in and give a punch to the person that just kicked.
A few others shout at the brawl; trying to assist in getting their attention. Some seem to scatter, putting heads back down around corners as you arrive. But something will have to break this melee.
The group hears an eventual shout. The main group pausing just enough to get grabbed by a handful of others.
The two begin to shout a bit at each other again, even as pulled away. One a Redhel, the other a Mosari. Both battered and bruised from exchanging blows. A few others on the deck also injured; but more so from just getting involved in the melee.
"Don't go through my stuff."
"Don't hide things that will get us all killed."
"Nothing here will get us killed."
"You really think you can say that to me?"
"A person has a right to keep whatever they wish a secret"
"Says someone in hiding"
"Your family is Salain! Piss off with that rubbish."
They again try to move to strike one another; but this time it seems that there are enough level heads - or perhaps hands - keeping them apart from each other.
Abigail, angry at not being heard, but glad that Tarak was at least able to get their attention, asks again. "What is the meaning of this?" She points at the man accusing the other of hiding something, "You first."
The two once again turn into yelling and nearly breaking out into a fight. You quickly realize keeping these two together, and simply asking a question may not lead you anywhere. You're likely going to have to come up with a plan, or a series of questions, in order to get them to talk. Let alone figure out who's telling what kind of truth.
"Tarak, take him," pointing at the one being accused, "below decks. Find out what it is he thinks he is being accused of, and account for his general actions over the last day or two. And since I am not looking to have some Death deity mucking things up... have him show you what it is that has gotten this man worked up." She pauses before quickly adding, "But do not take any punitive action before I find out what it is this member is blathering on about."
Now pointing at the crew member making the accusations, "You, come with me up to the aft... I want to hear, without interruptions, what it is exactly you think you witnessed or saw."
Turning to ZZ and Lafetha, "You two ask the crew up here what they just saw and over heard, and find out what they know about both of these two." Turning to more broadly speak to those present, Abigail says, "I will not tolerate in-fighting on this ship. You see an issue or have a problem with one of your fellow crew, you bring it up to an officer. You take matters into your own hands, and you may find yourself out of work next time we make port."
Assuming people actually do what they are told, Abigail will bring the crew member who was making the accusations up to the aft of the ship, before asking them to continue.
She is going to ask: "What is it that you witnessed that would lead you to believe he worships Death? What is it you saw in his affects that you said he was hiding?"
ZZ squeaks and jumps to at Abigail's directions. After hearing Lafetha ask other crew members of what led up to the tiff occurring, she turns to some sailors nearest her, "Why is our one crew member being Salain an issue and why is worshipping death such a bad thing?"
One goes with Tarak, seemingly off put to be heading over with Tarak, while the other heads over to Abigail.
Abigail...
"Captain. Listen. I was just down in the crew quarters, right? Saw this... rope hanging from their locker. I'd recognize it anywhere," the more calm - but agitated - he is, the easier it is for you to pick up the accent. Salain - but specifically Dunnour. "A thick red series of ropes. Back home when I was growing up, there was this Death Cult. Yeah they pretend to be all nice 'n whatnot but they meet in the townhomes and keep in secret."
He scoffs a bit as he shakes his head. "During the war they sure weren't there to help us." Glancing down you see his fist white knuckling around the hilt of his knife. More so out of anger and needing to grip something, anything, and this happens to be the nearest thing. "We can't be having someone that worships Death on The Maiden, can we? It's dangerous enough out here. We knew what we signed up for. But... don't need someone actively wanting that fate."
ZZ & Lafetha
The two of you ask a few of the sailors still on the top deck. Most are busy shaking hands and patting each other on the back - simply having gotten caught up in the skirmish. It seems that there aren't any deep hard feelings, even if some prides have been a little banged up.
"Prior tiffs? No... nothing I can think of. I mean we've all known eachother for about a month or so, right? So I don't know if they brought any bad blood on the boat."
"Honestly, he's a little hot headed, but what Salain isn't?"
"What kind of person goes snooping through someone's locker anyway? Isn't that the bigger issue?"
"Oh come now ZZ. You must know the Towers of the Faith, the Pillars on which the one true religion is founded. Order. War. Knowledge. Forge. The disciplines that the Iron Queen wanted all people to master before she Ascended."
"Salain? I mean, it isn't bad per se. Just has been a bloody time for the Country. Some outside Warlord killed their king and took over. Papers said they'd been killing anyone of noble blood to make sure no claims to the throne could come back. Lotta refugees, lotta folks went into hiding for new lives."
Abigail looks at the crewman, "I will look into this, but in the future... You bring issues you see or hear about to me - or another officer. No taking matters into your own hands and rummaging around in other crewmembers' affects. No one wants that to happen to their stuff, and I do not want people on this ship who cannot keep their hands to themselves. Are we understood? I would hate to have to drop you off in southern Badlands, just because you could not follow proper procedures. Especially after you have shown yourself to be the kind of person that take a keen interest in the overall well being of the crew."
Religion/History to gain more insight on the Death Cult: 22 Unless the crewman has anything else to offer, Abigail will move below decks to check in on Tarak and the other crew member.
Abigail, you try to remember anything you may have picked up in your time in Dunnour...
There were mentions of a mysterious cult figure that was gathering in the city; underground and rather low key. The Broken God. A figure said to have been literally carved to pieces by The Iron Queen but was not able to be killed. Many of those who follow The Broken will use Red Ribbons as a signifier, and you did see it from time to time. Someone having used red ribbon on stitching patches of clothing back together, or the occasional person keeping a cord of it around their hand like prayer-beads. Once you see it, it's hard to unsee. But the fact that it's so subtly done makes it hard to truly track.
But it is true that The Broken follows a Ethos of Death, but also, Life. From what you do recall (or experienced if you dabbled in a meeting of it), it isn't specifically a "balance" act between Death and Life. Both hinge on the concept of Order. Bringing Life - or - Bringing Death. But as with many Cults that exist in the 5 Kingdoms, the nuances are sometimes lost as organized religions outside of the Faith tend to be stamped out.
Tarak...
The sailor walks down the set of stairs and over to their small locker where they keep personal effects. The lock itself undone and laying off to the side, but it's clear that things escalated from this chamber itself with the room slightly a mess. A few of the other sailors still asleep in the hammocks that line the walls - not worth the loss of sleep to deal with a squabble when there's work coming in a few hours - turn as you enter.
He opens the locker and shows what's inside. Letters from two persons and what appears to be a bit of a drawn set of portraits. A Man and a Woman, neither of who are the Sailors. A Wedding Portrait, or at least a replica, of the two. And the Woman playing a game of Cat's Cradle with a child that certainly looks like it could be this Sailor's child. The string between the hands of the Woman and the Child bright red in color. It also seems that it was tied with a similar set of string.
But as you look through it, it seems innocent. Likely proof of some kind of affair, based on the love letters. Entirely probable that the sailor here and the woman have had a child together, which of course would upset anyone who could be considered 'Nobility' or of some wealth. Dangerous? Absolutely. People with money to burn can hire killers for revenge.
"His name is Old Salain. Half of the folks I've met with that name are refugees and don't want people going around saying it. Afraid it'll connect them to some noble bloodline somewhere in history, and get them killed. All I was trying to say is that we all have things we don't want to broadcast, cause it could get someone hurt...."

She peeks into the chest to see if anything catches her eye (Perception: 18, Insight/Religion:15 +5/+2 ), but does not investigate it further - unless she sees something of interest.
"I have warned him to keep his hands to himself in the future, or he will find himself discharged. As upsetting as it is to have someone going through your stuff... Next time, please come to either myself, or one of the officers, with your concerns. Obviously having our officer's meeting disturbed by such ruckus just increases the miscommunication - since we had no idea what was going on stepping into all of that. In the future, would you prefer to be on the same schedule as crewmember Blake, or on opposite schedule?"

Abigail you don't see anything of note; beyond anything of what Tarak may share with you having the major contents of the footlocker in hand. The Sailor certainly seems upset at aspects of the situation. Both from seeming to be in trouble, along with accusations and 'being found out.' (If Tarak tells you, otherwise makes your own assumptions)
One thing you do know from your time at sea; rumors lead to issues.
Once the questioning ends, the Officers are once again back on the top deck, inside the Captain's Office where their meal is still... mostly warm.
"That's just my opinion on it," chimes in Morgan. "But then again, I did have a endlessly screaming serpent sword thingin my brain for years, so," they wave off their own line of thought. "But I guess there's got to be a rule or something, right? Like either shut up about it, or service to some crappy God," they point a thumb over to Tarak, "or some other kind of Death God. Which is, ya know, great 'n all."
They give a huff, reaching over to grab a bit of the pickled fruit. "It'll be your call for sure. I'll follow it. But I suppose we should hear from these people too," Morgan gives a bit of a wink at Lafetha, before stuffing their face.
Abigail... you know this decision on how the boat should run will directly influence the crew. No clear answer on how, but, will begin to create the culture of The Maiden.
...if no one speaks up, Abigail says, "Alright, well, first thing is first. We cannot have crew going through each other's affects. We all have pasts, and in this line of work, they are rarely perfect. So, from here on out, any crew member found going through another's without the express permission of an officer will have their employment terminated. A second infraction before we reach our next port to drop that individual off with mean 20 lashings." Abigail pauses to let her order sink in. "However, the crew being the superstitious type, a similar outcome shall befall those actively found worshiping the Broken God - or any death god for that matter. In this particular case, we have searched this crew member's trunk and found nothing directly linking them to the Broken God, and since we are just now instituting our policy on searching other's belongings, we will let this other crew member go."
Abigail stands and prepares to leave. "I will address the crew regarding these new changes."
Abigail addresses the crew. They do seem to understand the idea of not going through their stuff. Many seem... confused on the idea of not worshiping the Cult of the Broken God. Unsure if this means all cults? Just the Faith? Worshiping nothing?
Abigail, you don't think this will be the end of any issues regarding the crew on what constitutes worship...

The Next Day
The Maiden makes it into the Inner Sea: the large body of water between Salais and Kventer, and running up to the Badlands. And the fabled resting place of the Leviathan's Call. The waters here are a prime trading route between the two Kingdoms, providing the Maiden with plenty of targets to find but also knowing that the waters are likely to be patrolled a bit as well.
While looking at the maps, there are three areas that likely would be the starting points to any investigation.
The Cliffs of Homoc: A spot in the Badlands, but little is directly known. The Badlands are a place where people go are sent away to be lost and forgotten. A harsh, unknown, desert. (History to know more; DC 25+)
Cross Ridge Shore: A port city on the tip of Kventer, formerly Ossian. Kventer's largest port. (History to know more: DC 15+)

A whistle comes from the crow's nest, drawing the attention of a few of the officers on hand. A sighting of note. Glancing out, far on the horizon, is a small series of ships. Two smaller than The Maiden, built for heavy combat. One of similar size to The Maiden, but it seeming to be anchored at the moment. It's rowboats currently out in the water doing... something. It's hard to tell from the distance. The flag of all three boats is unmistakable - The Blackmire Company. Arguably the "Sixth Nation" based on it's influence and power.
But to Abigail, there's a feeling deep inside for a moment. Perhaps a confirmation of a suspicion. They've gotten word of an artifact out here as well, and are also searching...
