ZZ in her limited social capacity, takes note of some of the sailors reactions to the new edict passed down by Abigail. Not quite understanding the uproar (ZZ is woefully ignorant of divine matters, preferring to save space in her mind palace for other matters) she shrugs it off but makes a note to keep an eye out for disgruntled sailors since she quite often converses with them during repairs.
At the mention of several communities, ZZ racks her brain over the land called Cross Ridge Shore...
The Cross Ridge Shore is named after Oliver Altonz Cross; a Kventer General who still resides there in current retirement. It's the largest port in Kventer, and it's only processing center
18 - 21
Formerly known as The Ridge; this large refinery city was one an important Ossian port. It was one of the first places to start the Ossian / Kventer uprising, lead by Oliver Altonz Cross. Since then, it has become the primary leviathan refinery in Kventer. It's refineries are far less impressive than Dunnour, but are run by many of the same companies.

Formerly known as The Ridge; a small series of mountains in the shape of Spires that people say are, in fact, the remains of a large beast killed during the times of the Great Hunt. It was one of the first places to start the Ossian / Kventer uprising, lead by Oliver Altonz Cross - a tactical leader who did not end up getting voted as Senator for the Republic. It is Kventer's primary Leviathan Refinery; while less impressive than Dunnour - is run by many of the same companies.
Cliffs of Homoc
Under 25
The Badlands are where people are sent to vanish and never been seen again. The fact there's a rumored port there is unheard of.
Lyrepool
Under 17
Lyrepool is the former name of a Salain city on the Inner Sea that acted as a trading port.
17 - 20
Lyrepool, once a mid-sized sea community known for entertainment and music, along with inner sea commerce was taken during Warlord's conquering of the Salain Crown. It's now home to the current Naval Academy and Shipyards. Rumor has it that many of the families that now live inside the old seaside manors were those that sided with The Warlord, as well as other high ranking members of the New Royal Court.
Abigail thinks for a moment, before agreeing that they should start in Cross Ridge Shore - mostly because it is the location she has the most intelligence on, not because she feels it is the most likely place to find the artifact. Perhaps they can gain more insight on the surrounding areas from the sailors and refinery workers there.
Cross Ridge Shore Kventer Republic 16th of 4th Month, 283A
Southern Ossian land, also now a swath of western Kventer lands, are fairly mountainous. Nothing quite like the Widowpeak Mountains in the Farlands - but the Ridge comes first in the horizon. Sloping hills that rise up and fall, never coming to a true peak. Patches of green and brown as trees come into bloom. A swath of yellowish haze seeming to hang over them. The 'Ridge' is easy to see. A series of swept back peaks that seem to come out of one of the mountains, down, then up another. The Ridges are more exposed; a deep blue iridescent color that seems black when not catching the light. It's colors muted from the yellow haze that's currently hanging in the air.
Cross Ridge Shore comes into view maybe a few hours after. Boats come and go; most of them small fishing boats and commuter vessels. Heading to the smaller towns that dot the shore but lack a real port for something the size of the Maiden. It takes a bit to get flagged and come to a port - lights and flashes from dockworkers with mirrors before some usual shouting and pointing. The deep water docks aren't directly downtown, but a bit of a walk. Carriages and Carts line the "Deep Water" docks to provide easy transport for the sailors as well as whatever they may be loading and unloading towards the city center. But, it's turned the small Deep-Water Docks to provide a easy access point to the Leviathan Refineries. The massive whale-like creatures being held up by their tails. People cutting into them, gutting and preparing them for the vats. The smell is absolutely putrid; decomposing and turning blubber into oil. Two other Wreckers reside at the Deep-Water Dock, along with another 3-Mast Vessel.
The Dockmaster charges 5 gold per day for the Slip; along with a charge of 5% expected sale of whatever is unloaded for sale.
Downtown and the City Proper is loud. People coming and going. The loud whistle of the Rail Station on the outskirts of town. Taverns, Inns, and small Storefronts. Both the Blackmire Company and the Mortis Foundation have locations here, proudly presented.
People hand out flyers left and right. Small pamphlets while shouting at anyone they can. It seems an election is coming up and Three Candidates are running for a seat at the Kventer Senate. Each having a list of places you should sell to, shop at, and places that you shouldn't. Some of the shouting matches become quite intense... and you'd guess that people have come to blows over who candidate is better.
A large clocktower sits directly in the heart of downtown; gears whirling and spinning inside. Surrounding it are depictions of what you'd assume to be Cross - the hero of the town. Some parts have been defaced, painted with phallic symbols over the face while others saying the land was illegally taken.
Around the clocktower, town criers shout important information likely for those that live here. Newspaper stands from across Kventer and Ossus are for sale. And some of their stalls are plastered with a Wanted Poster for someone known as The Butcher.
Abigail orders the supplies to be taken off the ship, "We are going to see how much we can get for our first successful... cargo mission. In the mean time, speak to the executive officer for planning your ashore time. You all did well."
Abigail will oversee the transaction of the goods - and of course ensure that the coin is accounted for...
Before disembarking to sell the goods, Abigail approaches ZZ and Laftetha while they are on deck. "I have a request of you two..." she pauses to make sure their attention is caught, specifically ZZ, "Would you mind going ahead of me and gathering intelligence on current events here? I am not sure what we are stepping into... Also, see what you can dig up on the large Blackmire presence we saw earlier, the Cliffs of Homoc, or Lyrepool. I have a gut feeling that we will not find a direct link to the Leviathan's Call here... that would be too easy. However, we may still be able to obtain a clue or two about where to make our next move."
Tarak nods to Abigail as he begins rattling off a few expectations on how to act and represent the ship plus if any of the sailors cause trouble and get arrested or killed we will not be going out of our way to get them back. Then reminds them to be back on board at the appointed time. Otherwise have a little fun and relaxation.
Once everyone is settled Tarak is going to browse around. Upon seeing the info on the Butcher he will ask around for more details as well as any other important useful bits of info.
After selling the cargo and returning the gold to the ship, and paying the crew ((to be tabulated and edited once all that is calculated)).
Abigail is going to hit up the local tavern for a meal and some drinks... and to ask around about what people might know regarding the large Blackmire presence she saw earlier and the Cliffs of Homoc. (Persuasion to get people to talk 23 - even if it involves buying some drinks to loosen some tongues).
...I will also throw in an Investigation13 because she is actively trying to find out information, so will be following leads to people that might know more, or... whatever - Abigail is purposefully NOT drinking a lot, in order to follow up on anything of import.
ZZ flusters at the captain's request. At a loss she turns to Lafetha who shakes her head at her and tells her to keep quiet and just keep an eye out as she asks questions. Nodding slowly, her mind racing at having to do social interactions but thankful that Lafetha is willing to take on the talking. As they head towards the market, ZZ looks out for posters and listens for small gossip on the Blackmire presence, the Cliffs of Homoc, and Lyrepool.

Abigail shakes a few hands and manages to get a good market price for the goods that she decides to sell. Morgan taking over the removal of the crates and managing who's assisting in unloading the supplies - as well as loading up on anything that the Captain buys. A handful of the others not actively working at the moment taking a nap - or heading into town to blow what coin they have on drinks, fun, and trinkets.
(3182 gold, 5 Silver if all items were sold. 3350 - 5% tax on the goods) (Given in Blackmire Bank Notes. 6 notes worth 500 gold each, 18 platinum pieces, 2 gold, 5 silver) (Bank Note is a legal contract of worth that can be cashed in by whoever holds the 11"x8" vellum note. Once turned in at the Bank, can be converted to coin currencies. Considered safer than bringing large amounts of coin to pay merchants and other high priced contracts in the 5 Kingdoms) (Abigail, you can change it to whatever coinage you'd like to split it up for purchases for the ship, as well as giving cut to the crew and putting some away for the patron /etc)
Abigail at the Tavern: (You spend about 5 gold on several rounds of drinks and food, and some well placed 'tips' to the barmaids who point you in the best directions)
As you talk to a few other sailors, sharing some exploits and stories of the strange things, most simply give a warning of the Cliifs. "Don't go there. Nothing natural about those Cliffs. I swear, I saw the sands become alive and eat the crew." The sailor places his hand over his heard while giving a bit of a nod. "By the Queen and my brother's grave. Not lyin'. Cursed out there." Many of the other stories seem to be similar. A dangerous place where bad things just 'happen.' Most the sailors certainly believe it, but it's hard to tell if anyone has actually been there. More so just people sailing past the region and falling for ghost stories. It's still enough to keep most people here away.
But on the Blackmire Ships, a few seem to know more about that. "Been around for just over two weeks I'd say. The big boat came from elsewhere. Smaller ones are a part of their local fleet; protecting trade ships and the like. It's certainly a Delve. Someone having paid to find a Starfall or some lost treasure at sea. Plenty of ships at the bottom of the ocean around here over the decades. Especially back when there were more Leviathans. "
Someone who says they work out at the Deep Docks does chime in at one point, "They didn't buy many supplies. Maybe a month, tops. So I'd expect them back at a port somewhere or trying to gather resources somewhere in a few weeks. Not like they can't afford it."
Tarak and the Wanted Poster
Many of the people that come over or are around the various wanted posters quickly turn the conversation from The Butcher to The Faith. Asking for small blessings, good tidings, or usual niceities. While the Faith has a small spot of worship here, it definitely seems that an armored Paladin of the Towers is a bit of a rare sight. Paladin's, or those taken in by the Oath-Bound Orders, are rarer in general. The Faith having many a Knight or Defender. But fewer in number of those who are deemed 'special' / 'chosen' and make it through the training. At various points in time, it sometimes gives Paladin's a 'Mystic Presence' for better and for worse.
However one of the little vendors does engage in some conversation. "The Butcher?" they ask, pointing to the wanted sign. All of the artist renditions seem different. "Two things I know for sure. The Butcher stabs people, a lot. Nearly every time I hear about a killing it's the fact they've been punctured. And nobody has seen their face. That's why all these drawings are so different. People seeing what they want to see."
Lafetha & ZZ Mingling with the Townsfolk
One thing is for certain; nobody talks of The Cliffs. Not even at the markets where people bring trade goods, salts, or other "rare and exotic things." But there is a bit of art from Lyrepool. Silks. Threads. Clothing styles that have a more flash than substance all claimed to be the rage across the Inner Sea.
The Wanted Posters all look different; like a face that's just been too heavily distorted by shadow. ZZ - you think all the murders may happen at night to keep the face obscure. But the figure seems to have sharp and angular features, and pupil-less eyes. You're not entirely sure if it's just the artist not wanting to do it, or a possible clue. But it does stand out to you.
As the two of you move about, a beggar comes up to you. "Few coin so I can eat?" The serpentine-human looks up from some clothing that's worse for wear. Gloves having fallen apart from time and weather, giving away to spiraling red veins that go through the fingertips and up the arm. Patches of the crimson lattice coming into view from the holes and tares.
Abigail puts three of the notes (1,500 gold) in a safe to eventually pay Madam Adamata. ((Still calculating crew pay and resources to purchase...))
Abigail listens to the dock works, "A delve... Interesting. Must be something rather valuable... Where would one go to find out more lore and information about what sort of treasure might be down there? Not that I would want to go head-to-head directly with Blackmire, but making oneself useful can be profitable."
((Abigail is going to see if she can get a lead on where they might be able to get more history or lore about what Blackmire might be after... Perhaps it is the same thing, or maybe another artifact worth looking for.))
ZZ lost in thought about her new revelations is a bit perturbed by the panhandling and looks straight into the beggars eyes. "Er...umm....sureee." She offers him a few silver pieces while glancing at Lafetha out of the corner of her eye. She has no idea what is the correct social way is to deal with beggars.
Abigail, as you talk at the taverns most the folks there think long and hard. "To really know? You'd have to talk to the people on that boat. Or attempt to get any information from the Guild itself. People can hire a Delve from all over and they put together a team. Heck, seen them send people out into the Farlands on nothing more than a rumor."
"Honestly, if I could pay for a Delve, I'd go into the Spires. Something just HAS to be there right? I know the Military keeps that outpost up and running to act in case anything comes from Ossus. But, me? Think they're guarding something and I'd for sure love to get to the bottom of it."
ZZ (how many silver?) the beggar takes the coin from you. The wet feeling hand clasping your little gnome hand in its. "Not many who take kindly to a old beggar," it says. Pulling you close. Leaning down to whisper in your ear. "I need help, if you're the sort of outsider that can help on things of darker deeds."
