Thariv awakens from dreams of dark, swirling waters and slowly rises, his thin form looking almost spectral in the fog. At the words of the others who have awoken before him, he looks around, eyes narrowing as it seems their surroundings have changed a bit. With a whisper and a wave of his hand, he moves the air slightly by the closest tree shrouded in fog, trying to clear the mist away. It is but a minor spell and does little to dissipate the fog, but may provide a bit of space free of the vapors.
"We should stay close to one another, one can easily get lost in this fog,"he muses aloud. "Once knew a man who walked right off a pier and into the sea in fog like this..."
((OOC: Using Gust cantrip to maybe move the fog around a little bit.))

"Unnatural, you say?" Durthon replies as he stands. He tries to look around. Trees are not the dwarf's favourite terrain, but these ones look odd. He checks that his backpack, and particularly his waterskin are as he left them the night before "I can check if there is something magical about this fog, if you can give a few minutes to concentrate."
Unless someone objects, Durthon starts the ritual to cast detect magic. He sits down, clears the leaves from a patch of dirt in front of him and writes a couple dwarven runes on them while muttering a prayer to Hanseath.

Durthon stands after a while "aye, this is no normal fog. There is definitely magic around us." He turns around, looking for signs of animals or other people while keeping concentration on the spell.
Reelq lets the others do what they need to do, watching as Detect Magic is cast. When it seems that things are going to be rather strange the kobold reaches into his pack and gather what is needed for a spell. "If we can spare an hour and I do not think we may be able to, I can summon my familiar and send it out into this mist." He offers, looking to the others for their opinions.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Randall shrugs, he doesn't mind waiting to summon the familiar, but he is also curious what is deeper into this mist. "How about while you summon it? I can go take a quick look around. I won't go far and I'll let you know if I spot anything." With that, he draws upon the guidance of his gods and creeps forward into the mist. He doesn't go far enough to disappear from view, but he at least pokes around as far as he can, just looking around for anything out of the ordinary.

Thariv nods. "Probably a good idea. We'll need all the eyes and ears we can have, I think. The rest of us can keep watch while you do your conjuring."
Thariv stands by and keeps an eye on the mist. He'd been in thick fogs at sea, but not so much on land. Clearly, something was off about this. He hoped it was just a coincidence that this had happened around their camp and that they weren't being targeted. He reached into his pouch, removed the asymmetrical piece of red coral there and held it in the palm of his hand. He felt as much as heard faint, unintelligible whispers in his head coming from the coral.

Durthon nods when he replies "an extra pair of eyes is always welcome. I can't make any sense of this unnatural fog."
OOC: this is my first time playing Curse of Strahd. I'm assuming that we were all traveling together in the same forest before waking up in this mist. Is there something else I should know?
((OOC: Also my first time playing Curse of Strahd. I think that's the general idea. Maybe we all just say we are a group of adventurers who recently met up on the road and decided to throw in together and suddenly we find ourselves in this fog?))

Reelq nods and begins the spell, muttering in the arcane language as it begins to take effect over the time needed. Once he finishes a small owl forms in the place where the spell had been cast. It tilts its head before fluttering onto the kobolds, shoulder.
"Fly ahead and let me see what you do." As he finishes speaking the owl hops off his shoulder and flies into the mist.

(If anyone is wondering the owl is an elf owl. I'd show a picture if the link would work...)
Endless mist. It dosen't reach the edge of the forest before you start getting...sleepy...

Reelq calls the tiny owl back, having been staring off into space so it seemed as it flew into the mist. Once his focus returns, he looks to the others with the kobold equivalent of a frown showing on his face. "The mist did not let up as he flew into it. In fact it almost seemed to get worse..."
Durthon turns to Reelq "if that is the case, then it should not matter which way we go. I do not want to spend more time in this fog than needed." The dwarf strokes his beard and asks "does anyone have a better idea than to pick a direction and start moving?"

“Aye we should choose a path and move,” he says. “I say we keep moving in the direction we were moving before we stopped for the night.”
