As the Sled is completely emptied of the ingots by the others, she shifts back into her Gnomal form. Her hair holding a mane-like shape for a short period but gradually falling back into its wild array curls and braids, adorned with odd bits of nature as ornamentation that oddly makes one think of a child emerging from a field of flowers with bits in her hair. Having heard the offer of the supplies (and hopefully it being apparent she was with the group as a horse) she approaches Elza. "Perhaps you'll take these also in payment with your offer of supplies towards a set of studded leather fit for a Gnome?" She places two 20 gp gems on the counter.
Elza smiles as Eerie shifts back into gnome form - not surprised, but as if seeing a favourite parlour trick repeated after a long wait.
"Oh those gems are lovely! Yes indeed, I believe that I have some that will fit you..."
She scurries around and lifts a big open wooden box from under the counter. It contains what appear to be plates of treated leather inset with metal studs. As she pushes the box towards Eerie, Elza grins in an almost motherly fashion.
"Yes! Very nice. I've never worn armor before, but the places we've been going are starting to require it. Could you help me fit this on?" Eerie's lack of experience with armor will be quickly apparent but hopefully with Elza's help she'll sort it out quickly. "Now do you happen to have a mirror? Steel frame will do. Also ..." She rattles off some other bits of this and that like iron shavings, bits of used charcoal, soot, etc. used as spell components. Adding another silver for the random items unless they ask more of her.
(Steel Mirror is 5 g which would be her 'change' from the 40g of gems and 10 g of credit - studded leather 45 g.)
After negotiations are complete and Eerie is armored, she spins to the group, hopefully still awake at this time as she can get carried away shopping. "Let's take a look at this Spire."
Following the map provided by Elza and Gorn, you set off across the snow towards the spire. Maybe tracking down one or more of these four wizards will offer a clue to releasing Icewind Dale from the Frostmaiden's curse?
You only manage a few miles before it is time to camp for the night. It is quiet and peaceful out here in the wilderness, although in truth you have not experienced anything like the bustle of civilisation in your short time here.
The night passes without interruption and you wake refreshed, ready to set off again.
(Congratulations, please put your characters up to level 5!)
(You estimate it to be about another day's travel to the spire; please post at least once each before we arrive)
During the first day of travel, Eerie senses small changes within her. A deeper connection to the natural forces around her and though the night seems interminable, she eases her mind with practicing her lesser used wild shapes. As a Boar, she roots for food during the morning for a couple hours as they travel. survival18 She also shifts to a War Horse and Giant Goat testing those shapes, happy to transport anyone needing a rest throughout the midday. And the true evening falls, she offers to take first watch and hunts for game using her Mastiff form and holding through part of her watch, returning to her own form before waking the next on shift. As morning comes, she can be found meditating and communing more intent than before as an uncommon seriousness covers her being. She rises, a bit more mature it seems, but joins the group for morning meal in her usual jovial manner. "Good morning friends, I find that Selune has blessed me with a finer connection to her energies this morning!"
Feeling well rested Virjor lopes down to breakfast, "A good morning to you too dear Eerie! The Moonmaiden has indeed granted you a great control over the animal form, it was a wondrous display yesterday and I'm sure will be advantageous in our adventure!" Virjor reaches down and pulls the white cat form of Lucius on to his lap and stokes his fur.
He looks excitedly across at the others; "I do hope we're all ready for the trip? I wager we could finally be on track to locate some magic! A "flapping" wizard is sure to have left some tracks."
As the group travels, Carric helps Eerie forage for food and anything else that might be of use in the harsh wintery climate (Help Action, prof. in Survival).
As the group settles into camp, Carric spends a few moments in standing meditation before engaging in practice, his slow, fluid motions gradually gaining speed as he engages in a silent series of punches and kicks. After several minutes, he seems to be moving faster than ever, fists and feet a virtual blur of motion. He finally pauses, then slowly delivers a series of straight-ahead practice blows with the heel of his palm, as if striking at the very center of an invisible foe.
After a time, he pauses, sits, and resumes meditation. He is eager to move the next morning, curious to see what other wonders this land holds.
Sitting at the morning campfire, Eerie rubs her hands together trying to warm them and watches Lucius curled in Virjor's lap. "It's like he doesn't even know he used to be an Owl. He seems quite smart."
As she sits, she watches for a small beast of some kind to communicate with. @DM
Speak with Animals used as a Ritual in conjunction with her Gnome ability to communicate with small animals. If she is able, she approaches carefully plying it with some small bits of food (gathered berries, hunted meat or even rations if needed) and inquires of other travelers through the area or anything unusual besides the missing daylight. (As she levels, I see her as more and more like Radagast chaotic, animal attracting but cleaner)
Thirteen, stands motionless whilst he rests, taking in his surroundings carefully whilst his mind wanders back to previous encounters. The fights, the challenges, the discussions and who has lived and died. More importantly, how he has acted during each event and what he could have done different. Done Better.
Over the few hours his thoughts gather. Whether it is from watching Carric out of the corner of his eye, or reliving previous fights against other enemies, or maybe a combination of the two. He finds a quiet spot and removes Shatterspike from it's slumber. The blade sings as he thrusts, blocks, slashes and cleaves the air with some new found strength and speed. His mind feels more connected to his body, as if taking advantage of the construct and improving it's efficiency.
After an hour or so he stops suddenly. Sheathes Shatterspike and walks back to camp, his jaw hanging in a lopsided grin as he sees the others packing. "Good morning all. I am glad to see you all awake and well rested. I hope you feel as good as I do. Shall we make our way..." and he stops in mid sentence as he sees the white cat. Straight faced he looks at the wizard. "Seriously Virjor? Is this one likely to sit on my shoulder and shit down my back?"
Watching the others practice their martial arts, Max steps back to use their shadows for practice. He finds that his footwork with his blade is coming to him much easier, and just as he sees one of the shadows of Carric's kicks, he is able to dodge and weave with an uncanny dodge. "Wow, that will come in handy next time I see those snow bug things!" Max mutters to himself.
"Morning, everyone!" Max says with his normally cheerful smile. "I think I could take on any monsters that come our way today!"
Eerie, in her various animal forms, and the resourceful Carric are able to scrounge up some winter berries and edible roots that will sustain the party for one day
That night, Eerie uses her druidic powers to commune with a white squirrel (feel free to post a summary of questions/intent and I will respond, we can retcon the conversation in spoilers)
In the morning you prepare to continue your journey towards the spire and the wizard who sought it out, renewed and confident in your new abilities.
(no need to deduct rations for this day. Please process a long rest if you didn’t already for the first night in the wilds).
You travel a full day towards the spire, following the rough map. Despite the perpetual blanket of snow, the land is dotted with waypoints such as rocky outcroppings, and the distant mountains help to stop you getting turned around. The darkness remains despite your body clocks indicating it is daytime, the air smells pure and crisp despite its biting at any piece of exposed skin.
(May I have a Survival and Perception check from everyone please)
Virjor squints at Thirteen and says "He won't if you are well-mannered!" and winks at the large metal man.
He then pulls up his robes and stomps through the snow following Eerie towards the spire. The cold is helping Virjor stay alert and he is acutely aware of his surroundings...
As the group breaks camp and begins to travel, Carric appears calm and happy, the slightest hint of a smile on his face as he moves quickly over the wintry terrain, occasionally slowing to make sure he does not get too far ahead of the group. He keeps his mask pulled back, perched on top of his head, so that he can clearly see everything ahead. He occasionally looks at the new magic cat and motions to it as if to play before remembering it is not at all a regular cat.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eerie pleased to spot the White Squirrel, chitters at it before resting.
Besides 'small' talk - You keep your fur so pretty/handsome, etc. to introduce herself and open up opportunities for it to provide more details - allow it to 'talk'...as much of this as she can get. ~Any others come through the area & How did they act? (anything not usual in the area creature or humanoid and were they in a hurry, afraid, etc) ~Does it know why its always night? (Why does it think its happening) ~Any plants we might find tasty or dangerous? (maybe supplement their food inventory without hindering the local wildlife) ~Paths through that are dangerous or quicker? (make the journey quicker or avoid hazards)
The squirrel responds in kind, saying that she finds your hair 'funny' (you interpret as a compliment):
~Any others come through the area & How did they act? Strange person with a big hat, seemed in a rush. Went that way (gestures in your direction of travel) ~Does it know why its always night? No, very confusing. Fewer nuts available. Hungry. ~Any plants we might find tasty or dangerous? Best to look under deep snow drifts and look for rivers under small dips in the snow (add advantage to your next foraging check) ~Paths through that are dangerous or quicker? Don't go far from here. Single people might mean danger; lone wanderers are usually desperate or dead
(Just waiting for Thirteen & Max Survival & Perception checks as I am doing group checks for the journey)
You trudge on through the snow, confident that you are staying roughly on course for the spire. With a full day’s travel complete, you camp for a second night in the wilderness.
(Please process a long rest and deduct one day’s rations)
In the morning – although that word seems to have less meaning here in the darkness – you head off for what should be the last four-to-eight hours of travel.
Around midday, as you take a rest for food and to re-orientate yourselves, you realise that you have wandered slightly off course and need to make a correction. You divert from your original course by about 30 degrees and travel on for another four hours, reaching the spire towards the middle of the afternoon.
A twenty-foot-high, irregularly shaped spur of rock juts out of the tundra ahead of you. Its smooth and shiny surface cannot possibly have been worn down by the wind. No, this protrusion looks utterly out of place, as if it had been thrust into the ground.
You search the area around the protrusion and find a slippery, 5-foot-diameter tunnel that enters the ground at a steep angle, then winds down into the frozen earth; you cannot see the other end of the tunnel due to the curve (which heads in the direction of the structure protruding from the ground).
