This thread is based off of a campaign I am planning on developing! It's going to be what I think was called a 'Tavern' thread, where you make a character and play with it in your posts.
Rules:
1. No profanity, cursing, or anything like that. No exceptions. This includes racial slurs, judgement based off of religion, insulting people for being gay/furries or anything similar.
2. Don't argue with people out of character. Two characters can disagree; you aren't allowed to just diss people's opinions.
3. Gore and violence is fine (it is D&D, after all), but anything else that wouldn't be appropriate for younger users isn't. There ARE 13-year-olds on here, and they could see the thread. Be respectful of that.
4. Since either mobile or desktop users could be on here, try and limit the quote chains. You can cut out part of the chains while retaining the relevant part, and it keeps things running smoothly for everyone.
5. Put anything out of character in Asterisks (*), like this:
*Should I have him cast Fireball or would that be too extreme?*
6. Please type 911 while holding the Shift key in your first post to show you've read the rules.
7. Try and re-read this periodically, I may add stuff.
Setting:
The academy is inside a relatively large Demiplane divided into a few main environments:
1. The Campus
The Campus includes classrooms, sleeping quarters, offices for the teachers, a break room, a library, and several hidden nooks.
2. The Desert
The desert is mostly flat, although there is a tall rock where a young red dragon likes to sun. Omis also lives here [Omis is Tarasque's]
3. The Forest
The forest includes several awakened animals with psionic powers, as well as a Blue, Brass, and Bronze dragon. There is also a large Pseudodragon population.
4. The Swamp
In the swamp, the only living creature is a black dragon with minor druidic powers who is covered in various forms of fungi that have developed a symbiotic relationship with her [Claimed by Captain_Crunch].
5. The Mountains
The mountain range is split into three subsections: The arctic portion, the forested portion, and a volcano. White dragons live in the arctic portion, a blue and silver dragon in the forested part, and finally a blue dragon who is curiously resistant to fire on the volcano.
Events:
Every tenday, an event called the Mage Sands is hosted. Students are sent into a dimensional arena to fight to the death (although any who die are revived back at the school). For anyone who has seen/read 'The Hunger Games', you have a good idea.
Every month, students are sent to a massive dungeon full of insectoid monsters, topped by a Thri-Kreen temple and with a Spider Dragon named Thrynaaxis at the center. Thryn is the 'brood mother' of the dungeon, which is actually a hive for her children.
Characters:
Staff:
Ragnald the Cold, a Death Knight who teaches Evocation (Headmaster)
To join, just make any 9th-level or lower character who can cast spells, or pick any CR 9 or lower monster from the Monster Manual who can do the same. You can play as one of the dragons listed in the 'Setting' spoiler, if you want. For a character outside of these limits, you need to ask. Otherwise, you can just make the character and start playing; don't feel the need to ask me! I'm often off for long periods of time.
Update: You can use the 2014 OR the 2024 rules to make characters.
And here's a place for character descriptions/proposed homebrew: Library Archives

About Me: Godless monster in human form bent on extending their natural life to unnatural extremes /general of the goose horde /holder of the evil storyteller badge of no honor /king of madness /The FBI/ The Archmage of I CAST...!
Although most cloakers never strive beyond the caves where they were born, hunting bats and rats (and the occasional adventurer) for their breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Cr'zzthix always has been...different. How, you ask? Upon seeing magic for the first time -- that of a passing wizard, attacked by their tribe, who wielded radiant energy against them, Cr'zzthix vowed to learn his ways instead of wreaking vengeance upon the mage who had wronged them so.
And fortune was smiling upon them, or so it seemed. As she began to think that her hopes were far-fetched, that her dreams of magic were Impossibilities, another mage -- a local villager and failed wizard by the name of Arryn -- ventured into their cave. As their tribe readied for attack again, they intervened, nearly dying in the process -- but holding off the attackers. In return, the wizard brought them to his home, a humble abode outside the village where he was raised. There, he healed them and cast a spell of darkness around them, one that would stay with them forever to protect them from the light.
Now, they've journeyed to Morvengaarde's, hoping to learn the ways of magic. It'll be hard, but they're up to the task -- they've come this far, after all...
*Wondering if a cloaker with a sort of eternal darkness spell surrounding them is OK? (It would just affect them, protecting them from light, and it wouldn't have any other effect)*

in the noxious swamp, there are a number of dangerous creatures, however, none more dangerous than Sulfyrex, black countess, eternal lady of the bog. she has something of a symbiotic relationship with the mushrooms and fungus of the swamp, some of them even growing on her, her acidic body nourishing them in exchange for more power.
she has claimed the swamps as her domain, her acidic breath melting anything that could challenge her
