Two days after a massive storm, a small group of weather beaten travelers exchanged stories of shipwreck and adventure over the fire at the Stonehill Inn in Phandalin. Toblen Stonehill, the owner and local master of tall tales, has just advised them to continue East in the morning and explore the untouched ruins of a temple turned battlefield. He's offered to send any other adventurers their way, as he knows that there are many who travel the Sword Coast in search of gold...

Name: Casias Race: V. Human (Defensive Duelist Feat) Class (and Intended Subclass): Monk (Kensei) Stats: 8, 16, 14, 10, 14, 12 Background:
Charlatan, but going to pretend I'm a noble.
Backstory:
Traits: Casias is a practiced liar; not out of malice, but out of a need to fit in and impress those around him. He hides his lack of self confidence through a layer of bravado and arrogance. Despite this facade, Casias is quite good hearted and almost always puts the needs of those around him in front of his own. He bonds quickly, perhaps searching for the family he never had.
Backstory: Casias grew up as an orphan, not knowing his parents. Never finding a place to fit in, he moved from orphanage to orphanage until he was 15 and took to the streets. On the streets he met a rogue named Monty, who took Casias under his wing. With time, their M.O. became Casias acting as a distraction while Monty stole from shops, vendors, and other places in the city. Casias quickly began to get good at lying. Monty was also a skilled swordsman, and taught Casias the basics of how to defend himself. One day, while Casias was about, he saw a book in the back of a shop he was helping Monty steal from, called "The Way of the Sword Saint". Casias stuffed it in his coat and ran off. He began to read it, practicing its teachings during the night. The book talked about famed Kensei Monks, who were master swordsman. It didn't take long before Casias began to idolize them. He, too, wanted to be part of one of these great lines of legendary warriors. He began to spin a tale to those who would listen of how he was the Son of Valinius Ozan Kardinius, the first blade of Chessenta. This was, of course, entirely untrue. Casias went as far as to pay for forged documents and creating a fake signet to uphold his facade
Casias grew weary of the petty theft that Monty wanted to continue, wishing to be something more. After giving his longtime friend a goodbye, he tried to offer his services as a Sellsword. Asking for a hefty fee as someone from such a "distinguished background" would, he was eventually hired as a caravan guard for a shipment heading south on the Trade Way. Soon after setting out, a storm began to beat down on the caravan, and a group of pirates who had been shipwrecked set up an ambush on the road. Casias, realizing he was entirely outmatched despite what he had claimed to the caravan owners of what he was capable of, surrendered the goods of the caravan. Casias fled south with the full intent of paying the 250 gold worth of goods that he had lost back to the merchants, and perhaps even interest if he could muster the money. He could only hope they would forgive him, and take the gold instead of his life. He has now found himself in the Stonehill Inn, sipping on a drink, wondering how he's going to get the money to keep his head.

Backstory:
Mercer was born to a family of farmers that lived in one of the many small communities that bordered the City of Splendors, Waterdeep. From a young age he was destined to continue the life his family had lived for generations. This would have involved marrying, siring children and work their land to give his family a comfortable life style. That would have been it if things had not taken a sudden twist.
In his later adolescence a family member that had long ago left to become an adventurer returned to the Homestead, seemingly happy to be home. While they appeared normal Mercer did pick up one strange habits. Such habits were that they never went out during the day and were never seen eating in front of others as all meals were taken alone in their room. Other then that as far as he could tell Mercer thought this was just a strange habit.
For a time things continued as normal until one night that would change not only Mercer's life but that of his entire community. The returned family member turned out to have been a vampire or similar creature, having been feeding on both their own and the nearby families. Something changed though as if driven by a madness the undead creature slaughtered the family and would have done the same to Mercer but stopped in the middle of feeding, leaving an open wound on his neck. It would be several hours before Mercer awoke, the memories coming back to him. With revenge consuming his thoughts, Mercer went after what had once been a family member. Not having any skills to take it down his self he gathered whatever money he had to attempt to hire someone to go after it.
While at first no one would dare attempt such a thing, eventually a group of adventurers came along, one of them being a cleric of Kelemvor. The cleric felt the pain of the young halfling and promised to help him take care of the creature but only of he would be willing to learn to stop such things from happening. Not wanting to see such a thing happen again, Mercer agreed and became an apprentice adventurer and eventually an acolyte of the god Kelemvor, taking up residence at cemetery that held chapel to him. Upon reaching adulthood he left the temple and went out to work towards his goal of putting down as many undead as he could.
(If dhamphir is allowed I would say it occured after the failed feeding. The vampire had been about to turn him into a vampire spawn but did not complete it.)
Character Creation Name: Markus *BoneCrusher* Gillhead Race: Triton Class (and Intended Subclass): Fighter (going for Rune Knight) Stats: 15-10-15-8-12-11 (before modif) Background: Fisher Backstory:
Markus is a Triton close to his thirties who was abandoned in his childhood on the sword coast. No one knows exactly why his tribe left him for dead on the shores. By chance he was found by a Halfling family of Fisherman, close to the village of XXX, that raised him as their own. Illiterate, what he lacked in Intelligence he compensated it with pure strength. Bigger than the usual lad, others were clever enough to show him respect. One day, during his usual trek across the land, he saved a poor soul from a deadly attack of goblins, breaking the skulls of these creatures with his bare hands. In return for saving his life, the stranger, Innkeeper Toblen Stonehill, enrolled him in his special guard. Since then, the loyal Markus stayed in Phandalin, protecting the village and his now good friend Toblen.
N.B: the way I see it, his tribe abandoned him as he was showing some "giant blood" when he was a infant. Maybe he is the result of a forbidden love between a STORM giant and a triton…. If even possible…
Name: Kothar Race: Lizardfolk Class (and Intended Subclass): Barbarian, path of the beast (gotta use all my natural weapons) Stats: 16, 16, 14, 8, 12, 8 Background: Outlander Backstory: [Please Put in a Spoiler Box]
Deep in the swamps of the north, a black dragon whispered it's orders to it's servants. "A white dragon has invaded my domain and settled in the mountains to the south. Seek this creature out and find out more about it." Thus Kothar left his swamp.
Kothar had grown up in his swamp. As one of the strongest members of his tribe, he often hunted and patrolled the edges of his tribes territory. He earned his name from the screams of those who trespassed. They would cry out, "Demon" as Kothar dragged his prey into the water never to return. For years, Kothar spent his days hunting and furthering the survival of his tribe and honoring the tribes overlord, a black dragon. When a white dragon took up residence to the south, Kothar was sent to hunt it down. Wandering south, Kothar was often confused by how softskins functioned. He soon heard of the town of Phandalin and of how "adventurers" would often meet up and work together. There he reasoned, he could find other strong creatures he could work with to slay the dragon or at least learn more about it. And so, Kothar set off for the "inn" where these "adventurers" often met. He was still very confused by these softskins.

Name: Valzire the Blessed Race: Ravenite Dragonborn Class (and Intended Subclass): Paladin (Oath of the Open Sea) Stats: 16, 10, 14, 10, 12, 14 Background: Sailor Backstory:
Valzire grew up on the docks. Sleeping in the corners of warehouses, earning his keep any way he can, he eventually managed to stow away on a ship and win a slot on the crew as a cabin boy. Days on The Dancer turned into weeks, weeks into months and months into years on the sea. Valzrie grew from a scrawny grey-skinned Dragonborn into a hulking brute, a hulking brute who no longer served as a cabin boy or a cooks assistant, but had graduated to a full-fledged member of the crew, a deckhand with responsibilities to his captain, the ship and his crewmates.
He was there, on the deck, where he belonged, with the wind in his face and the sea at his back when he spotted the sail on the horizon. Not uncommon on this route, but it wasn't a rigging he recognized. As the ship drew closer, the Mate went into the captain's cabin, coming out almost right away and calling orders to the men. Strange orders Valzrie had never heard. A cutlass shoved in his hand. Shouted instructions. Sand scattered on the deck. Buckets dipped and filled with water, ready at hand.
The strange ship was close. Much closer than he expected. More shouts and Valzire ducked as a whistling sound cut through the air. Splashes. Screams. A crash as the ship smashed alongside. Impossible. It was still so far away.
Screams. The cutlass in his hand. He struck out as a filthy pile of rags came flying over the side of the ship, his cutlass cutting an arm out of the rags like some kind of magic trick, the rest of the body collapsing in a pile in front of him.
Something thick and heavy hit the back of his head. Darkness.
He woke in irons, chained in the belly of the ship he had lived on for so long. The pirates had seized their ship and planned on selling the surviving crew at port to a necromancer who had a standing contract with their captain. Or they would have, if not for the storm that came out of nowhere. The Dancer was always a pig to sail, but with strange hands on her tiller and lines she went over hard and never recovered.
A voice came to Valzrie as the storm raged, a deep voice like the sound of waves crashing on the storm. The words were in a language he didn't speak, but the meaning was plain. He was saved. And he had a debt to repay.

Born on Alaor, Drop's live was surrounded by water from birth. Swimming to great depths, playing with various underwater animals his youth was joy full and the water always called him. From young he knew he wanted to travel the oceans to explore as much of the underwater world as he could. From his teens he went on short trips over the seas with his parents or friends of his parent and when he turned 18he went looking for jobs as a sailor and after various smaller, shorter appointments where he heard about the great sea, the shining sea and the sea of swords.
Willing to travel those he took jobs on various vessels to finally arrive in the great site of Baldur's gate. From here he ventured on long voyages over the seas, living the live he always knew he would love. Until the last ship that took him got stuck in the Large storm of a few days a go. The ship went under while Drop was asleep in his bed. Woken up by the screams of his companions he tried to get as many out as possible. Unfortunately, he was the only one able to breath underwater and with no ship in side he saw his companions drown. One by one, every time he tried to keep them up, wanting to get them to safety, but with no ships in sight, and no way of knowing where land was they all drowned.
The last of them being his best friend of the last few years, who he tried to keep up, but in fain. When his friend went down Drop dove deep as he could only while he was alone. Eventually meeting a dolphin that knew where land would be, and who was willing to take him there. So that was how he was saved and how he came upon the shore close the Stonehill inn. Knowing he will ones go back to the sea, but for now wanting to stay on land for a while after the horrors he has seen. When the barkeep mentioned the ruins of the temple he didn't hesitate; the gold would always be useful, and it might keep his thoughts away from his best friend drowning after sliding from his arms.

Right after being born in a concentration camp meant for socially alien creatures, she was disposed in a critical condition. But she managed to survive as a member of ancient tribal community. She was loved, taken care of as one of them but what separated them from others is the ever-lurking fear of misfortune and bodily harm, also the unquenchable thirst for natural and supernatural knowledge. As a quick fix, she put a taboo on her second name, and started to carry dreamcatcher locked with her spinal cord which is supposed to lessen the harm caused by her heritage. When she watched her horde gaining momentum because of an upcoming misfit, she stayed behind instead of following them, deliberately knowing the outcome, the beginning of a new life.

Gideon Blackburn was born and raised in Cormyr. His life was a relative study of mediocrity. Growing up on a farm, he couldn't wait to get away from his overbearing mother and quietly judgmental father. As the second son, he was expected to join the military or the church. He was elated to leave the farm and join the famed Purple Dragons, but he soon learned the military was nothing like the tales of battle and glory that he had grown up on. It was a lot of sitting around, following by short periods of intense fear and panic. Unfortunately or fortunately--depending on how you looked at it--he was assigned as an assistant to the War Wizard Falthenaus. Falthenaus was and older higher ranking wizard. Gideon initially thought this meant good prospects for his career, but he found out soon that what this meant was that Falthenaus spent most of his time in strategic and operational planning meetings, leaving Gideon to try to keep from falling asleep while standing guard outside. Meanwhile, all of his peers from boot camp were getting experience on the battle field and gaining promotions--he always seemed to gloss over the ones who had died. One perk, though, of serving Falthenaus was exposure to magic and some small skill therein (Magic Initiate). He even learned how to summon his own familiar, in order to keep himself entertained.
Eventually, Falthenaus retired and Gideon was offered a leave of absence while they considered what to do with him. Falthenaus encouraged him to head northwest to the Sword Coast, to prove his mettle in the meantime. Gideon leapt at the chance to finally prove himself in the field, away from the headquarters tent. A few weeks later, he found himself in the Stonehill Inn, sheltering from a massive storm, and listening to the tall tales of Toblen Stonehill.
Two days after a massive storm, a small group of weather beaten travelers exchanged stories of shipwreck and adventure over the fire at the Stonehill Inn in Phandalin.

Name: Markus *BoneCrusher* Gillhead
Race: Triton
Class (and Intended Subclass): Fighter (going for Rune Knight)
Stats: 15-10-15-8-12-11 (before modif)
Background: Fisher
Backstory:

Backstory: [Please Put in a Spoiler Box]

Name: Valzire the Blessed
Race: Ravenite Dragonborn
Class (and Intended Subclass): Paladin (Oath of the Open Sea)
Stats: 16, 10, 14, 10, 12, 14
Background: Sailor
Backstory:

She was loved, taken care of as one of them but what separated them from others is the ever-lurking fear of misfortune and bodily harm, also the unquenchable thirst for natural and supernatural knowledge. Name: Gideon Blackburn
Race: Human (Variant)

Stats: Ability scores: STR 16 DEX 10 CON 14 INT 14 WIS 10 CHA 10
Background: Soldier
