You are all in Phandalin, for one reason or another. (Map below)
Nestled in the rocky foothills of the snow-capped Sword Mountains is the mining town of Phandalin, which consists of forty or fifty simple log buildings. Crumbling stone ruins surround the newer houses and shops, showing how this must have been a much larger town in centuries past.
Phandalin’s residents are quiet, hard-working folk who came from distant cities to eke out a life amid the harsh wilderness. They are farmers, stonecutters, blacksmiths, traders, prospectors, and children. The town has no walls and no garrison, but most of the adults keep weapons within easy reach in case the need for arms should arise.
Visitors are welcome here, particularly if they have coin to spend or news to share. The Stonehill Inn at the centre of town offers modest lodging and meals. A couple of doors down from the inn, posted outside the townmaster’s hall, is a job board for adventurers.
(OOC: As we start, please introduce your characters, and state what you are doing, and whether you have just arrived or been exploring town for a few days etc. The one requirement, which will enable the adventure to start, is you must visit the townmaster's hall and the job board, as that is where the adventure starts. Though if some of you meet elsewhere before the job board, that is also fine. Following that, the choice of where you go will be up to you as a party)
Biezdar is young good looking man, his mannerism shows an educated way of presenting himself. However his way of approaching other folks looks a little too loose for what you would expect from someone who makes the impression of a nobility. He wears a chain mail, with coif loosened around his neck (since he is in town). Shield strapped to his back, and flail attached on the side oh his belt. Over the chainmail he wears overcoat painted half in olive color and other half painted white. On the chest area of overcoat there is embroidered a regalia.
He is currently accompanied by a young boy who fallows his every step. In his hands the boy keeps a helmet (face open type, it would protect and keep chain coif in place), too big for his head.
The two are currently looking at the job board and talking.

Jayson had arrived in town two days ago, and immediately taken up residence in the Stonehill Inn.He’d been welcomed, since he’d brought a healthy dose of news from Triboar, where he had been most of the last month.Between sharing news, gossip, rumors, and songs, he had been pretty busy there from the start. Now, the young half-elf had taken a break to stretch his legs a bit and see what was what and who was who around Phandalin.
As he walked, Jayson spotted an armed and armored man accompanied by who must be his squire eyeing the job postings listed in front of the townmaster’s hall. Jayson had looked at these his first day in town, but they weren’t anything he thought he could tackle alone.
Moving to stand beside the knight, Jayson runs his hand through his mop of blue hair and nods to the pair. A branch bearing blue leaves is tattooed up the length of the half-elf’s left forearm.
“Greetings, sir. Jayson Warmlight, poet and musician, at your service. I read these, too, when I first hit town. I think the same crew could tackle two of these in one trip if they were motivated. Head southwest of town, give the dwarves a heads up about this reported dragon, and then cut to the East of there to retrieve this stranded midwife and get her to safety back here. I’d have gone already if I had anyone to share the road with, but since I am here alone and don’t know a soul in town, I have resigned myself to singing in the inn’s taproom and biding my time. I think I saw you there earlier.”
He looks from the squire back to the knight.
“Are you considering taking on any of these, Sir —-?”
/ -2gp for the room, offset by whatever he’s been paid to perform /
Biezdar slowly shifts his attention from the boy towards the arriving half-elf. He listens and waits a bit before he answers:
- Considering... Yes i am considering an approach to these. Greetings to you Mister Jayson Warmlight, My name is Biezdar Kamrazzan. We sure have seen each other at the inn. I saw you perform, are you a local here in Phandalin? If so I would be interested in your opinion towards the dragon viewings in this area. I am actually here for that matter. I would like to asses the threat and maybe with some luck find out creature lair. Was sure thinking about those tasks. First and most important thing about that situation should be to ensure safety to people. Answering to those quests would help local community, but i do not think it would be wise to drag young Thomas /Biezdar puts his palm on little boy shoulder/ around these parts. Forming some kind of task force of willing and able men or women might be needed to achieve something. Are you one of those people Mister Jason Warmlight? In any case i am going to first speak to the townmaster, to inform him of my arrival.
Biezdar is not trying to leave the conversation early, however if it would end his next step of action would be to enter Townmaster's Hall, to indtroduce himself, his squire and his mission to townmaster. He would also invite to that Jayson if he answers positively to the question about being willing and able.
/I know it might seem like my character is trying to recruit, but that only because he was sent here to do something and because i posted first. I am not trying to be bossing around and neither will my character/

“Well met, Biezdar. And you, young Master Thomas. I myself am not a local. I came here from Triboar, but I’m not from there, either.”
Jayson shrugs and grins.
“I hope you found something of my performance enjoyable, sir. I will not keep you from the townmaster. I am willing and prepared to travel with you, and others, should they come forward. Hopefully, this official will have time to speak with us. Or at least schedule an appointment to do so at their convenience.”
/motions for Biedzar to lead the way. The bard will tag along./
Kosef is a middle aged man with mouse brown hair and a beard, a few streaks of silver shining through both. Generally he could be described as average looking. A cleric of Milil and an amateur poet himself, Kosef has been waiting in town at the Stonehill Inn, musing on his poetry and waiting for the call of adventure. So he would of course notice the arrival of any other adventurous types staying at the inn. (I’ll spend 4gp for the room, that seems about right.)
Seeing these two meeting at the notice board, Kosef approaches, smoking his pipe. “Hail friends! Wait up please.” He slowly sidles up to them. “I wonder if you were planning on taking on one of these jobs? It seems that perhaps there’s a chance of glory to be had now this dragon has arrived.” He smiles at the thought and at his new acquaintances. “I would offer my services, I don’t know if you’ve travelled with a cleric before, but the light of Milil can prove inspiring for adventurers such as yourselves.” Kosef casts Light on his mace, making it glow with radiant energy. “I care not what job we do, as long as we do something, an epic adventure fit for a poem.”
As the adventurers greet each other at the job postings, a lithe form steps away from the wall of the Stonehill inn where he had been leaning. Quin had been so quiet and still up to this point that nobody had noticed him until now. The young humans dark cloak concealed his armor but the occasional glint of a dagger hilt could be caught. Hilts protruded from both boots as well as adorning his upper thighs. Inspite of the armaments Quin barely made a sound as he approached. The young rogue kept a slightly disheveled appearance on purpose just in case he might have to hide among the common folk.
"Sounds like you all could use a good scout. It just so happens I'm between jobs at the moment so if you like I'll tag along." Quin offers. "Names Orson."
"There's a double standard for the way we live; If there's nothing to have, well then there's nothing to give; I'll break a sweat and I don't regret; What you'd kill to see brings out the god in me..."
The Half-Orc sings to himself as he walks down the street, a greasy turkey leg in one hand, a maul slung over his back. His pockets were light, so he'd spent the evening prior camping in the forest outside of town. He'd only been able to come into town earlier that morning, and after asking around, had ascertained that there were job postings on a board outside the Townmaster's hall. He stops long enough to read some of the postings after the small crowd gathered there gets out of the way, then has a moment of recollection when he sees the regalia of the man stepping away.
"OAH!" Gor the Gouger calls out to the men walking away from him. "You there, the mighty one with the regalia! You are Biezdar! How could you forget your old friend Gor!?"
It wasn't so hard to forget Gor. Gor hadn't seen Biezdar in a few years; not since his tribe, the Children of the Eternal Hunt, had been run off the borders of Biezdar's family's land and had retreated into the hills to continue the hunt. In that time, the Half-Orc boy had grown into a man, his body stretching out until he was tall, and his limbs growing thick and corded with muscle. The sides of his head were shaved, leaving only a mohawk of hair running across the top of his skull and down the back of his neck. Tribal tattoos started at the left side of his collar bone, wrapped his left shoulder, and started down his left arm to the elbow.
He keeps up his confident stride as he follows after the man he recognizes as Biezdar, a big grin covering his face.
Biezdar has a quick though that this is exactly what he was hoping to happen, to find some other people willing to pursue that dragon threat. He felt confident in his own skills, but is not naive to think he could do something significant on his own. He did not thought it would be that easy to just attract willing people by just being present in front of job board, but a job needs to be done and if there are others willing to help then that is how it is going to be. Just when he was thinking up the words to address these guys, someone called his name... In an instance Biezdar nearly lost all of his noble apparition in the way he talks and moves and there was not much of it to begin with.
- Gor? Gor man is that really you. /Biezdar goes for a dynamic handshake with Gor/ Oh i was not hoping to be this lucky in here. I did not even knew if you are alive! It was years when your tribe left. Are you all back to your old settlement? or is it just you? It would be enough to have you just back, look at you. Gor what would you say if i were to ask you for your assistance in hunting a Dragon together? I was thinking good lads about all off us. What would all of you fine Messieurs say to forming a party? I was highly interested in learning the whereabouts of that dragon, and hopefully help the community in the process. My initial plan would be to report back to officials in Neverwinter and ask for assistance in disposing such creature. However with such a fine troupe we might just be the heroes ourselves! what would you say?
Biezdar sure got a little excited and if observed from the side, he would appear more that a young excited boy rather than adult noble with cold appearance which would be his usual vibe. Not that he wants to be cold and off putting, but something about him being always ready to spring into action and assessing eventual threats sets him that way.
The Townmaster's hall is locked. There is no sign of anyone inside of it. It is easy enough to ask a passerby where the townmaster lives though. "Townmaster Harbin? He lives just down the road. Thats his house there" and they point to the house, "Though since the reports of a dragon, he rarely leaves his house. We see him when his food gets low for him to restock, and he pops here to post notices but that is it. We try and make sure he is okay though. Between everyone here we have someone check in a few times a day so we know he is alive."
Jayson waits for the passerby to be out of earshot, then looks at the group.
”Alright. So, now we’ve learned that the townmaster is an inspiring leader. Do you think it has yet dawned on him that if a dragon *really* wants him dead, a house isn’t going to make much difference?”
The bard snickers a bit at the thought and shakes his head.
”The question now becomes: do we even bother going to see this guy, or do we just go get the job done and then pay him a visit later when it’s time to collect the coin that the ads promised?”
/Jayson holds waiting for consensus from his new colleagues./
Kosef muses to himself while smoking his pipe. “Well technically we could just go complete the job and demand the money later. Although there is in fact no real certainty that the coward will pay…”
He turns to Jayson, “Perhaps we could make our intentions known to the other townspeople, forcing them to be our unintended witnesses. If you could put on a performance in the centre of town detailing our plan to complete a quest or two, then the town master will have to pay us on our return. He couldn’t bear the shame of a whole town surely.”
“I suppose it would be helpful if we decided which jobs to do. I for one think we should visit the midwife in the windmill. It seems like she is the most vulnerable of the three.” Kosef continues smoking his pipe. “We may even be able to complete multiple jobs at once, perhaps we should purchase a map of the area.”
To save time, Kosef will probably just go buy a map. Just let me know how much it is and I’ll deduct the gold from my character sheet.
You can buy a map for 3sp, and find people around who are friendly enough to mark the locations of the 3 jobs on it (I will provide a copy tomorrow, but need to edit it for the quest locations)
Jayson requires no further encouragement to play a tune, especially if it helps the group get paid. The bard pulls his yarting from around his back and hops onto the side of the fountain in town square, rapidly checking the instrument’s tuning.
”Ladies and gents of Phandalin! If I could have your attention, please. As you may be aware, south of this lovely town of yours is a midwife in need of an escort to safety. My friends and I intend to go get her. But first, I’ve a little tune to honor her and the vital, selfless work she performs for the benefit of her fellow human beings. It’s called “Midwife’s Lullaby”, and it goes a little something like this…”
Jayson’s fingers begin to work the strings and frets of his instrument.
- - - -
“In a small town where the flowers grow,
There's a story that must be told,
A midwife's touch, both gentle and bold,
Bringing life into the world, pure and untold.
Midwife's lullaby, soft as the wind,
Guiding us through darkness, where hope begins,
With loving hands, a beacon of light,
Midwife's lullaby, soothing through the night.
In the moonlight, where shadows dance,
The midwife's presence, a kind circumstance,
She weaves through the threads of life's grand design,
A mystical healer, with wisdom divine.
Midwife's lullaby, a soothing refrain,
Comforting mothers in moments of pain,
She cradles existence, a giver of grace,
Midwife's lullaby, a tender embrace.
Through the old tales, her legend remains,
A champion for lives, her presence proclaims,
With every birth, a victory won,
In the arms of the midwife, a new life begun.
In the morn, when the sun breaks through,
The midwife whispers secrets, both ancient and true,
She carries the burdens, the hopes, and the fears,
With strength in her heart, she wipes away tears.
Midwife's lullaby, a soothing refrain,
Comforting mothers in moments of pain,
She cradles existence, a giver of grace,
Midwife's lullaby, a tender embrace.
In this world of wonder, where love finds its way,
We'll sing of the midwife, her legacy will stay,
Through gentle hands and a steadfast soul,
Midwife's lullaby, now forever extolled.”
-
Jayson completes the tune with a flourish and a bow.
Quin is just about to suggest that bringing the quest targets back to town should be evidence enough when Jayson bounds off to give his performance. Not one to purposefully draw attention, Quin slips off to the side to wait for the spectacle to subside. As he does he comments to Biezdar that we should just start with the closest target and work our way outward.
If a handshake could be heard around the world, then this one surely was. Gor didn't stop here, though. He continued to grin, pulling his friend close and wrapping one arm over his shoulders for a squeeze.
"OAH!" He calls, excited. "You hear that Biezdar? That is the sound of a dragon's bones shaking beneath its paper-thin scales!"
He listens to his friend, still grinning, looking around now at the group Biezdar had gathered with him, showing off a ridiculous amount of teeth as he did so.
"Oah, still alive. Lodis has not seen fit to call me in from the battlefield yet, humph. Fickle god, Lodis. I continue to offer my glorious blood up and Lodis refuses to harvest. My chance shall come soon, oah! The Children are moving back to the settlement, but Gor has wild oats to sew and much blood to spill! Lodis requires a great harvest of blood and souls and I shall be counted amongst them someday, oah! A good death! So just Gor here in Phan-da-lin."
He seems to have trouble with this last word for some reason.
"Gor is glad to see his old friend Biezdar! Lodis is good to let us die together! And Gor would be quite glad, yes!, quite glad indeed to go after this overstuffed lizard with Biezdar and these eager sacrifices gathered with him! Oah! A party, yes!"
Gor thumps one arm across his chest once, twice, three times, looking very excited at this prospect...though, to be fair, he seems to have been excited this whole time. The Half-Orc settles his eyes on Jayson, then laughs with a bit too much merriment at the thought of a dragon burning a house.
"Yes, yes, mummer. Houses are such funny things. So many waste their time building them and hiding in them from all nature's beauty only for death to come to them anyway, hmm? You are brilliant! Ha! Such is the frailty of life and the fleeting comforts of money! No sensible acolyte of Lodis would ever waste what little life they are privleged with hidden in some box! Oah!"
He has a dawning realization then, and starts reaching out to shake hands...by force if necessary.
"I am Gor the Gouger!" He says with pride. "Chosen to die for Lodis in glorious battle! Simply not taken home yet, oah! I shall be glad to die with the lot of you as we go to shed this midwife's blood! She shall break beneath the Sledge! Ah, but who are you fine folk who accompany mighty Biezdar?"

Jayson completes the tune with a flourish and a bow.
”Thank you!!”
He hops down and returns to Kosef’s side.
“That should do it.”, he winks.
/He hopes to see some kind of reaction/
