Except they're not forcing a single view... They're showing you the global search results which you can then choose what to show or not show. I'm not understanding why you would want to go into a settings window to do what you already have the option of doing on the Search Results screen. You're literally adding unnecessary steps for no benefit.
Have you read the rest of the comment thread to see what people are having issues with? To go into settings, and turn something off once, as opposed to every time you run a search, is not adding more steps. It is removing them.
That said, I wouldn't mind having [forum posts] included, but they definitely should be listed after all the possible compendium results instead of mixed in.
That is a nice compromise if it makes things easier. If global search results list the forum entries at the end of the results, I wouldn't mind so much having them included by default, because I could simply stop looking at the results when I get to the first forum post instead of changing the filters. (But a one-click option to search everything but the forums would still be a nice-to-have.)
I also like the idea of presenting forum results at the same default search, but after all other results.
It's elegant, gives (probably) best answers first, and as things stand, I often use the Forum search if I am looking for something in the forums, so I'd prefer it if the global search focused elsewhere.
Does the majority feel like that would be an acceptable solution for a default search? Forcing any forum results to be rendered after any other category type? I can make that change this weekend, maybe even tonight, and we can take it for a ride and see how it feels.
I think the forum searches being lowest priority in the global search results is a good idea. Generally if I'm typing into that search bar I'm looking for something in the ruleset.

Personally, I don't think the forum results should be shown unless the option is chosen. That's just my opinion, though.
Global search is pretty dope, dudes and dudettes. One thing, can Forums results be automatically pushed to the end of the results? The only time I want to see what the forums have to say is when the SRD doesn't have what I'm looking for.
Oh wow, for some reason I thought the Forum results were already shown after everything else. Goes to show I should have tried a few more Search Terms...
Yes, absolutely Forum results should be shown after everything else IMO. That way if someone just wants the Forum results then they can click the Forum filter button. Otherwise, everything else is shown first and given priority. No need for settings buttons or more scripting per user.
Compendium results definitely need to have priority over forum results at minimum, but I'm also slightly concerned about search performance in the long term. The forum is the fastest growing area of the site in terms of searchable data, and (in theory) as it grows larger, it will cause global search to become slower. If less than half of those forum searches were actually wanted or useful, that's a lot of wasted work being done. So the option to make a search without forum results from the start could be very beneficial to the site as a whole.
All that's really needed is a check box at the start to include or exclude forum results, preferably one whose state is persistent across different sessions. As suggested above, a similar option in user settings would also work.
Looking forward to how you work this out. You all have been quite amazing in how you have worked things out based on feedback so far. I'm also glad you tell us honestly why things get changed up on releasing to the testers - like having the global search working correctly first as it is more of a foundational thing than you originally thought. Keep up the good work and I'm sure we will have something cool in all phases done by whatever deadline you have. After all summer begins on Wednesday and does not end until Sept so you can still have a good summer release, since I know you have a lot of phase 2 and 3 done behind the scenes.

I don't know whether the "signifying results you don't have access to" has been done (I saw icons to right of results, but didn't know what they meant), but this is a really good idea. As is just being able to filter any such current out. I'd go a step further... In the "you don't have access" page, it would be great to say what content that came from, so that people would be clear in how they CAN get access to that specific data.
Okay, the new search works much better to my expectations. Only issue now is that forum results should only be linked once per thread instead of once per comment.
I'll comment once I have more searches under the new changes.
Small easy feature request, please add Opensearch support! This will allow Chrome users to hit tab to omnisearch D&D Beyond from the omni bar, like they can for major sites like Google, Wikipedia, etc.

I see I am once again late to the party.

If they cannot be easily filtered out by default, then yes. I find that acceptable.

Thanks for the feedback on forum results - we've got a solution that I think will make the most folks happy.
I'll share more once we're able to make the changes and get them in place.
This is certainly why we want to test...to hear the community's thoughts on these things so we can make DDB the best it can be.

I don't believe the new changes have been rolled out yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
