Eskee nods in acknowledgment to Stun saying they will meet at the stables. He passes this message to Maverick and then begins to look around at the shops and booths nearby to see if he can find someone selling a drum.
Dressed in common clothes to blend in with the locals Maverick gives a innocence yet slightly flirtatious smile
“Hey hon how’s it going? I have a question that I hope you can help me out with, you see I have these darts and they are pretty simple, I was wondering ( now making more focused eye contact and almost a bashful shyness) if you guys have anything that could make these more special or any unique darts with your own special customization? You see we (as he looks at Askee) are about to start an exciting secret mission and I would love to brandish your equipment. Annnnnd if possible would you be able to tell me what lays outside of the walls of this city? You so I could mentally prepare myself.”
"Well," she replies, "my husband over there deals mainly in swords and daggers and such, but we might have some dart needles around here somewhere. As far as outside the walls of our fair city," she continues as she walks over to some shelves and begins looking, "nothing but wild grasslands for a day long journey in any direction."
As Maverick points to the husband in a exaggerated way to get his attention yet not to distracting so he doesn’t get hurt working
”Him over there, that’s your husband, Sir how’s is it going? Your kind hearted wife , ( Maverick turn to the lady) sorry ma’am I apologize I did not ask your name” ( and Maverick just waits for her to respond with her name)
Basal was there as well, he looked over to the horses and approached them. His hand reached upward and placed it gently on the snout of the beast, it grazed the coarse fur of the animal up and down with ease. Basal didn’t seem to have a wonder in his eye, but it did like to pet them. As the Dark Lef knew he wasn’t the one being addressed
As Basal was petting the horses, Stun was wondering what the coin situation was for the group, especially when it comes to buying or renting a Donkey. He hopes Asshrack can somehow bargain with the stablemaster for a better price. He also thinks maybe there is an opportunity to not pay at all. Maybe there is opportunity that the stablemaster will be sympathetic to the cause and aid the group, or at the very least, owe the stablemaster a favor in the future.
Stun also is thinking to only get involved in the conversation when necessary, being that his new appearance have not been welcome by anyone until a short while ago, and his confidence in his social skills has not returned fully.
Asshrak walks up to the stables, past basal petting the horses, and past stun of the large teeth, looking to be deep in thought.
”ho there! Stable master! I was wondering if you could lend us one of your fine donkeys for a journey to defeat some goblins. I anticipate we will make a name for ourselves, and , who knows, if word somehow gets out that one of your donkeys was lent to us,” Asshrak winks, “then you may see some more business than I’m sure you already have!”
Eskee sees a shop across the street with drums, lutes, and lyres in the window.
Meanwhile, the weaponsmith's wife replies to Maverick with a laugh, "My name is Mirna and my dark-skinned husband is Leroi. Ah, here they are," she says pulling down a small wooden case. She opens it to reveal to Maverick half a dozen finely crafted silver darts with black feather fletching. "We had a guy special order these a while back saying something about lycanthropes. I have never seen or heard of any lycanthropes or shape shifters of any sort around here," she continues. "He never came to get them. What's it been now, Leroi?" she turns to her husband covered in soot and grime at the anvil. "About three months now?"
"Naw," the weaponsmith answers, wiping sweat from his ebon brow with a gray rag, "only about nine weeks. I said I'd hold them things for three months. Gives him about three more weeks before we can sell them." He walks over and takes the box from his wife then puts them back on a high shelf.
At the stables, where Stun and Basal are petting the animals, a tall, lean man with brown hair and tanned skin and holding a brush in the palm of his right hand comes out from one of the stalls. "You talking to me, mister?" he asks Asshrak. "I got all the business I need right now, and I ain't gonna lend you anything without knowing who you are. Why would I give one of my fine animals to a goblin hunter, anyway?" he asks. "We ain't got no goblins around here no ways. Now if you were to take care of those hyena-folk who keep eating my horses, I might consider paying you for their tails. Kill enough of them, that might get you enough for a horse or a mule. Ain't got no donkeys." He spits a wad of brown gunk into the straw at his feet.
“Ha, yes, a mule, i must have misspoke…” he turns to the other with him. “Sounds like this man has a gnoll problem. We kill enough of them, sounds like we pretty much get a mule free. Otherwise, I’m guessing we gotta pool our money if we want one.” He turns back to the stable owner. ”how much would it be to simply buy a mule?”
Where Stun and Basal seem to be enjoying themselves petting the horses, Stun's interested is immediately peak when the where the tall, lean man with brown hair spoke, "We ain't got no goblins around here no ways. Now if you were to take care of those hyena-folk who keep eating my horses, I might consider paying you for their tails. Kill enough of them, that might get you enough for a horse or a mule. Ain't got no donkeys."
The thought came to him about hyena folk that they might be similar to him but by the expressions about them, might have gone feral. the thought fills him with anger, hidden well enough to the others but pick up by the horse he was petting. Slightly startled, the horse begins to make disturbed noises.
Coming to his sense when the horse was startled, Stun begins to calm the horse down by petting and hushing it while listening to Asshrak asking for the price of the mule.
Eskee enters the shop across the street that he saw the instruments in. Walks to the counter and says, “ Excuse me, I was looking to purchase a drum. Would you be able to help me?”
In the shop where Eskee is, a small, white-haired man pops up from behind the counter where he had been adjusting some instruments in the display. "Why, yea-es. I can help you, sir. What sort of drum were you looking for?" he asks as he comes around the counter. "We have tom-toms, big bass drums, bongos, snare drums, tympani. Some magical, most ordinary." He guides Eskee to a floor display of various types of drums.
Basal finished patting the horses due to the fact that his interest was peaked by the term hyena-folk. Being from the depths of the Underdark he was familiar with creatures like that, and doesn’t like them very much
”You…are talking about…Gnolls…?”
Basal asked, he stood behind Asshrak allowing him to take the lead in this conversation but his curiosity got the better of him. Basal turned his attention to Stun for a moment seeing the horses riled up, he cocked his head and decided he would ask later. Then he questioned Asshrak
“Leroi is it? (As he confirms his name) Mr. Leroi could you be as so kind as to inform me if the individual who ordered those darts had a special spells or any type of magic be placed on them? also if that individual does not return how much would be be asking for them? You see we are about to start a journey and, not to be rude; however, I would need to know that those darts would be worth coming back for in three weeks.”
Eskee follows the man to the floor display while saying, “Thank you sir. I’m not looking for anything special, although magic drums do sound interesting. For the time being I just want something that I can easily carry with me. If you have a snare drum that fits that description I would like to talk price. If not a snare then whatever is portable.”
"Don't know nothing about noles," the stableman replies to Basal, "but we got folks look like and sound like hyenas. Probably one of the Dark Lord's experiments let loose again. Anyway, they've been chasing, catching and eating my horses every time I take them outside the city walls. I haven't been able to sell any horses without them being attacked almost as soon as they get out of the gates. I guess those hyena-folk like the taste of horse meat."
Meanwhile, at the weaponsmithy, Leroi replies to Maverick, "I don't do magic. I just make the weapons. If you want them magicked up or blessed, you'd have to go elsewhere. The Professor or a priest of Omne might be able to help you."
"My husband's weapons are all of superior quality," Mirna says. "People come from as far away as Freeport to get one of Leroi's swords, and they usually pay quite well for them. I would think those silver darts are well worth the wait."
"The man was gonna pay me three silver pieces each for them," Leroi says, "but they could probably sell for more than that in Freeport or Lonberla." He returns to his anvil.
“I think it would be in our best interests to buy one,” Asshrak says to basal. He turns back to the stablemaster. “We’ll buy a mule, fine sir. I apologize for previous assumptions.” Asshrak hands over the 10 gp. “And I’m sure we could bring back a few pelts, if we are to be attacked like you say.”
Eskee nods in acknowledgment to Stun saying they will meet at the stables.
