Once again, Threla doubles over in laughter, her limbs spasming as she cackles. The spell fades pretty soon, we aren't in combat so I feel no need to force extra saves, but as Threla recovers she again notices that some of the shifts have remained. Her posture is ever so slightly more stooped, her hair a little longer, and in places where no elf ought to have hair. Not to mention she's at least an inch taller than she was.
(If you haven't noticed it on your sheet yet, Threlan's Strength score has changed, and has been different for actually some time.)
Now... I'm going to roll some perception checks to see if anyone hears you.

Nodjeim, replacing the unused darts, tries to maintain his stealth while arching his neck to look towards the new noise. Is that cackle another scout we missed? he asks himself and starts moving in that direction to check it out. Best not leave threats behind you...

OOC: Oh my god. My score has changed! We need to inflict one of the martials, considering my strength score doubled.
Threla looks different. Her composure has changed just ever so slightly, something ragged gleaming in her eye. Also, she has stubble on her chin. She whimpers in pain, as her ankle throbs, but manages to stand and keep going, following along behind the others.
OOC: I'm really scared. I'm afflicted with a horrible disease, have 3 spell slots left, no damage cantrips, 14 ac, & only 21 health. Please protect me

Hi, I'm Raccoon_Master,The Rocket Raccoon/Trashcan Tactician (as appointed by Drummer). Pronouns They/Them/Theirs.
My Characters: Brorminthe Crusher; Discoverythe Keeper; Theathe Scoundrel; Jorvirthe Weaver; Threlan,the Speaker; Zolyathe Inspired; Penley the Devourer;
Holy shit! The warlock thought as the gnoll fell by his side, faster than he could flinch. His face a mask of flesh and blood, carved into a focused expression. His last words, a taunt, showed more confidence than he felt – far more, for he wasn’t even that skilled with Eldritch Blast. A scene that made the defeat of the enemy look like a plan enacted to nothing less than perfection.
That was close. The dark elf decided looking at the corpse that almost dropped over him. Too close. It was then that the laughter started. His eyes turned to Threla, recognizing the spasms from the fight at the village. He was about to run to her and cover her mouth when she stopped. Too little too late, the echo of the hyena-monsters told all.
“Back down. Behind the hill.” He told the bard with half whispers and full of hurry. From there, he expected, it would be easy to see any enemy approaching and if said enemy get too close it should be easy to ambush. After she moved Veldruk followed his own advice, standing in front of the healer. Only then he noticed she seemed taller. Another thing to talk about after battle.
Notes: Veldruk tries to hide behind the hill (stealth check 15) and should enemies notice him/his companions, will try jumping them. Should Threla hide in the same place he will make sure to stand in front of her to hopefully draw aggro away from the healer.
(Fully, y'all might want to take a rest before actually venturing into this place. Totally up to you, though, I'm not your boss.)
OOC: that would be smart. And it would allow me to give Olan an invisibility spell so he can sneak in easier.
Threla looks at the rest of the party "Should we stop and rest? Only for a few minutes. I need a minute to compose myself, and Evelyn is injured. Plus, I if whatever just happened to me happens again, I would rather it not be in the middle of a life or death situation"
OOC: I propose we take a short rest. We can try to signal Olan to come back over here, we can rest, and then we can continue. Of course, if y'all don't want to take a short rest, that is fine.
Edit: crossposted with Makkiu. Threla will hid behind the hill [stealth check: 10]
"Can you control whatever is happening to you?" Nodjeim asks after they have all regathered and hidden best they can. "Do you have a say in when the... it happens?"
They are right. It could imperil them all if it happens in the middle of a battle. But then again, it could be as dangerous or worse if it happened while they were sleeping... "Anyone know if there is a cure?"

Strangely... Nodjeim finds that an unusual amount of knowledge about lycanthropy rushes into his mind, and he makes an immediate connection to Threla's condition. He recalls the following:
Lycanthropy is no ordinary disease. In fact, most of the time it is not a disease at all. It is a curse, and thus can only be removed via the remove curse spell or similar magic. However, if one embraces the change, or is born a lycanthrope to afflicted parents, only more powerful magic may reverse it.
Contrary to popular belief, lycanthropes may transform at will, regardless of the phase of the moon. However, during the full moon, their transformation cannot be prevented, and they go into a rampage during which their personality is overwritten by the curse, causing them to act as per the nature of their specific strand of lycanthropy. This typically involves much ripping and tearing, shredding and screaming, and the like.
Nodjeim has never heard of hyena lycanthropy, but it stands to reason that it may exist, as wolf, bear, tiger, rat, bat, and certainly other forms of lycanthropy do exist. Her laughing fits seem to have come as a result of the progression of her transformation. When the full moon comes, she will likely fully transform, and afterwards may potentially be able to better control it. This is uncharted territory, however, and Nodjeim has no clue what lies there.
Finally, a specific cultural practice comes to mind. Some of the nomadic people of Dambrath revere lycanthropes, and view the curse as something positive and even holy, and something to be desired.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Olan sees the gnoll and realises that he won't be able to warn the others. It appears his only option is to lure it away from them. He nocks one of the barbed arrows and takes aim at the gnoll. If the gods are with him he may even get a clean kill. If not the ensuing ruckus should warn the others.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: Why did the one character I build that's focused completely on social interaction have to get lycanthropy? Why couldn't it have been my Exandrian Goliath Barbarian? Woe, woe is me :P. I'm just kidding, I'm fine with the story changing my character, and I'm sure being a were-hyena would be cool. Do we know what phase of the moon it is currently in?
Arcana Check: 11
Threla tries to remember something, anything that she could about what's happening to her. She is especially surprised by the stubble on her chin.
Why is this happening to me? Is it a disease? a curse? I feel...more primal. As if I'm devolving. Clearly, strange magics are at work in these lands, and they have infected me with...something.
As she begins to take a short rest, Threla hums, loud enough that her companions can hear, but soft enough that it won't give them away as she uses her Song Of Rest feature. If we finish the rest, anyone who spent Hit Dice regains an extra 2 HP.
