"The darkness...," Doc says to Jartrin. "Seems you're in for more than you originally bargained."
(Once Doc sees a safe place for him and his current companions to set down into the quarry, he will follow the path down and closer to where the fireworks came from.)
Whatever magic that's being used here is far beyond your understanding.
Now that most of the camp now stands motionless around the stone circle, the movement of an increasing number of bodies towards the south is now visible.
The sound of weapons thumping on the ground begins to fill the air. In time with the thumping, a chant begins "Furtan-Magath".
(Estellen, doc, jartrin are about 5 mins away from violet now. Who is next to an entrance on the north side. If you want tailine you will have had time to rejoin with violet.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"You're suggesting we...play this out?" Doc says, a bit taken aback with Estellen's suggestion. "Your logic is sound, but I cannot allow them to complete this ritual."
Doc peels off from where the others are hiding and positions himself within 120ft of the archway, casting Guiding Bolt at the archway in an attempt to crumble it and break the ritual circle.
Attack:13Damage:13
(Roll for advantage if hidden due to everyone else in the camp being distracted: 8)
Violet looks at the scene. A glint appears in her eye as she gets an idea, "Oy, demon girl. If they're all paying attention to bird brain over there, why would they be watchin' that side?~"
Pointing to a spot opposite of where the spells are firing from, Violet will attempt to quickly, but stealthily, make her away around, to enter the camp from an angle that has the least attention on it.
As you cast each of your spells, right at the edge of their range, you see them burst into nothing a long way from the portal. (as though they hit some sort of magical barrier)
From the slightly elevated position you can see a lot people pushing towards the South gate, like a wave of people. (the far side to you)
Violet, Tailine:
You just about see the spells dissipate a distance from the archway. Now distracted from 2 directions, Violet you manage to keep well to the shadows and slip through a crack in west side of the wall just to the side of the gate.
Quilqwen:
As you work your way forward, breaking the cages, you notice the Orcs begin to struggle more and more. With so many people around they're running out of space to move or attack.
The ice knife plunges into the chest of one, exploding and throwing several shards of ice in all directions. You see some people fall, as do the two Orcs. One Orc is clearly dead from the knife, second is bleeding heavily and falling down under the weight of the people, it does not get back up.
I continue on as before. Breaking open cages with Shillelagh and sending up flares with Druidcraft. All the while urging as much haste as I can from the freed captives. If Quilqwen gets the last cage open without encountering further resistance he will free the last group, send up a last flare, and call for them all to run once more then will Wild Shape
Doc momentarily looks confused at the dissipation of his divine strike. He closes his eyes and quietly says a prayer to Tyr, asking the god of justice to guide his next strike.
Doc once again casts Guiding Bolt at first level on the archway, adding his channel divinity. "THE LIGHT OF TYR COMPELS YOU, SHADOW OF THE HELLS!"
Estellen looks at the dissipating magic curiously, and then looks shocked as Doc hurls yet another spell at the barrier.
"Stop that. We don't have time to waste resources on this thing that is seemingly unhurt by our magic. We must meet up with the others and devise a plan of retreat, this problem will have to wait for now until we are able to take it on fully."
(As a War Cleric, Doc is of the belief that a wall of dark magic can't stop the divine channeling of the god of justice. Seeing his bolt dissipate the first time is not just disappointing for him -- it could possibly be the start of a crisis of faith, causing him to question the divine nature of his magic.)
Violet, still hidden, will attempt to sneak to the most important/decorated/largest looking tent/building. Knowing how people of power think, that's were the leader, or at the very least, someone important will be living. While doing so, she's a little happy. This was turning out to be a lot more fun than she originally thought it was gonna be!~
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tailine will follow Violet through the crack in the wall, hoping to not be seen. Stealth Check: 8 Then she'll take a look around to see what's going on.
As the spell is being cast, a large figure steps through the portal and the chanting instantly stops. It is a large Orc, at least double the size of anything else in the camp. Veins of blue light shine along its skin (Like lightning) and occasionally a bolt of lightning grounds from it's form onto the ground or anything nearby. In one hand is a large warhammer, it's head about the same size as you. It seems to exude an aura of darkness, almost visible tendrils almost look they are searching for something.
The figure raises it's hand in the direction of the guiding bolt, causing the spell to be drawn to it's hand.
As if catching nothing more than a ball it grabs the bolt, looks directly at you Doc with bright shining blue eyes, and throws it back. But this time instead of a bolt of shining energy, the bolt is pure darkness. It hits you right between the eyes dealing 1 force damage, knocking you onto your back, and causing darkness to begin creeping into your eyes (CON Save DC 10, on fail blinded for 1 round (about 6s))
In a deep male voice that reverberates and echoes within your minds, the Orc laughs, "You call that magic? I'll show you real power, granted by the true gods." He raises his Warhammer and says just one word, "Feed." This single world reverberates so much it's almost deafening before eventually fading away. (it's not telepathy, the sound hits your ears first then echoes within your head)
About a hundred tendrils of pure darkness arc up into the sky, before coming down on the figures trying to run to the south. Each tendril drags what can only be the souls of the victims back into the warhammer, causing the warhammers aura of darkness to get bigger.
Quilqwen:
While you're still breaking open the cages, you see about half of the people collapse screaming, each has a tendril of darkness attached to them. A spectral form is pulled out of them and dragged through the air towards the north. (it's a random selection of those within and without the cages) They fall to the ground limp, screams fading, dead.
Tailine, Violet:
You see a tent which is a bit more elaborate than the others about 50ft away from you when the above happens. This tent is a bit larger than the others, and seemingly of better quality. You have seen no Orcs so far (except the few glances you manage to get of the stone circle)
Desperate to get as many people away from here as I can I continue to bash at the locks and free people. Bellowing as loud as I can to any that can hear. "SOUTH! RUN SOUTH! DON'T STOP! DON'T LOOK BACK!" I no longer send up any flares, nor do I watch for danger ahead of those already fleeing or look for what may be behind. I only focus on getting as many, out and running, as I can.
(Figured I was ok now. let me know if I need to keep using the spoilers.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tailine's black eyes go wide as darkness streaks across the sun, her instincts screaming at her to run. "This is beyond us. We must try to find Quilqwen and we must leave this place. We have to warn the town."
She will try to see if she can spot any sign of the birdman, fearing they might have to leave him behind.

Doc’s eyes focus in on the dark archway as he picks up the pace. “It is here.”
While following Doc Jatrin ask him "What is there?"

He looks around for anywhere to hide or any way of disabling the arch. Perception: 23

Tailine will return to where she last saw Violet (though she doesn't know the woman's name).
"What in the hells was that? Any ideas on how to help the bird man? The ground is too open for me to sneak closer without getting spotted."
If she spots the spells flying she will duck down into cover, wondering if her new companions are going to bring the entire army down on their heads.
