In my DnD campaign, each of the characters have some type of ability that is specific to their background. Some of them have extra proficiency, while others have a once per long rest spell. Is there a way to make a once per long rest spell? I made the spell I wanted, but rather than being once per long rest it is merely a spell slot.
When I couldn't get that to work. I figured I would add the spell to an item and tell the players they cannot prepare that spell, only use it on the items. However, I couldn't add custom spells attached to an item.
If it's not a free* spell, you're in trouble. *System Reference Document, Basic Rules**, or Elemental Evil Player's Companion **Not the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manual
I mean a number of races get a spell once per long rest, at starting it is often a cantrip but at like level 2/3 they get a first level spell once per day.
I think an issue here may be however that DnD Beyond is not made to just add random extras onto the character it assumes you are very much following the core rules on character gen. The best thing i would reccomend is for now give them a non-attune ring and just ignore the item for interacting with other ppl.

I tried to make the non-attune ring, but the problem is I cant get the items to use custom spells.
Unfortunately I think for now you wont be able to add via dndbeyond. hopefully as more tool gets added you will.
My quick fix tip write all the spell details like its layed out in the players handbook in thr item description.

No worries. That is what pen and paper is for.
