I have character who's backstory is that he was polymorphed by a wizard from a troll into an elf. He has gone through the steps of making the effects of the spell permanent. I'm curious of the effects of antimagic on this character. Do i get changed back into a troll? Does it have any effect? Do i get to keep my class features?
i want to know what i'm getting myself into if i bring this character to a full campaign. For the sake of the discussion let's say i don't want to bar the DM from doing it and also that the character doesn't want to be changed back.
By the rules, a polymorph, even a True Polymorph made permanent, is an ongoing effect that can be dispelled. So by that backstory, you're one "dispel magic" away from reverting to a troll and losing all your elf abilities.
My recommendation: talk to your DM about it. You can have the backstory be that you've been transformed permanently in some not-easily-dispellable way like via Wish or something else. It would be a custom thing.
not to concerned about the elf abilities, losing the class features would be the bigger issue
playing as a troll is honestly not too big a deal for me,
You didn’t mention what class you are but class isn’t something that you can have been polymorphed into. Your class levels were gained independently of the polymorph, so they can’t be antimagicked away.

Dispel magic and antimagic field can both undo true polymorph (only temporarily in the case of antimagic field).
Maybe consider Reincarnate?
It would require some DM handwaving, though, as it only works on humanoids. Just a thought, I guess.
