So I was building a sorcerer and was looking in the PHB and read that the sorcerer Hit Points at Higher Levels says 1D6 (or 4). Does the (or 4) mean instead of rolling 1D6 you automatically take 4 instead and add that to your Con modifier? If some one asked this question already then Dang I didn't search properly...
You can choose to roll the hit die (1d6 for sorcerers) and add your Constitution modifier, or you can take the average roll (3.5), round up (4), and add your Constitution modifier. At 1st level, though, you automatically get the max roll (6) plus your Constitution modifier, but that's based on character level, not class level. This is true for all classes.
Okay. I knew it was dependent on class cause each class had a different number but I wasn't sure on the actual ruling. I was just reading in the book. I also knew that at 1st level you get max health. Thanks for clearing that up.
