We are level 11 in our campaign now and given the option of a second character for well...reasons. Ive chosen a hobgoblin paladin swapping between lance and shield when mounted, and flail and shield on foot. Anyone have any ideas on how to store the lance when not mounted?
No! Do not place a sharpened wooden pole with or without a metal end "cap" in a bag of holding. That will puncture your precious item. Choose instead an Efficient Quiver, and ask the DM if the Large compartment will hold at least most of the lance when not in use. Otherwise, just drop the danged thing when you dismount.
We are playing an ebberon campaign, what do you think about telescopic lances like in the game tera, condensing to a really fat shortspear-like length when not in use?
I am curious as to how one would puncture the extradimentional space that is the inside of a bag of holding...
Well the description states "If the bag is overloaded, pierced, or torn, it ruptures and is destroyed, and its contents are scattered in the Astral Plane. " So I guess an overabundance of caution might not be a bad idea.

Perpetually annoyed that Eldritch Knights can't use Eldritch Blast, Eldritch Smite, and Eldritch Sight.

I always assumed that lines is meant as in "pierced or torn" from the outside, given the mouth of the bag directly connects to the extradimentional space

A reasonable assumption, but when I read it prior to posting the the overloading causing it rupture caught my eye, which led me to reconsider what kind of objects might be placed in there and the possibility of damage.
The only time I've seen a DM rupture a bag though was from placing a Black Hole into a Bag of Holding.
Frankly putting your horse in,the bag of holding seems more problematic =P Check with your DM if your mount returns with its saddle, barding, and other items it was carrying when it is summoned (the answer is probably "yes", but the spell is a bit vague.)
Edit: just read Find Greater Steed for the first time. It is not at all vague and it disagrees with my above statement, so your DM probably does too.

True, make sure you wrap or "sheath" the end so it won't poke and ruin your bag of holding.

Get cart that a mount can pull.

Leave your lance with your horse.
