Posted Sep 15, 2021I actually am in the middle of DMing the Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign and VASTLY expanded the Cold-Blooded Killer quest and made the travelling caravan into a circus and did a whole circus show lol it helps that I have some of those LED light strips in my room and turned the actual light off and had the LED lights just changing colors with circus music and several acts while they waited to catch a glimpse of their target lol they still talk about how that was one of the highlights because they were immersed in it. In fact I had a t-shirt cannon gun and shot out a shirt with the caravan's name on it lol good times.

Posted Sep 15, 2021it's sad but I have yet to meet a player who would rather talk it out than fight the thing, i just had a player punch an npc for telling him an answer to the questions he asked

Posted Sep 16, 2021The only time my party will try and talk it out is if they are vastly outnumbered prior to beginning of combat. If they are starting to lose in combat they either fight to the death (or capture) or try to run if not too many of the party are down. I try to throw hints at them, specifically to the character with the highest passive investigation or something that it would be an uphill fight.

Posted Sep 16, 2021My players discovered that talking things out can lead to goodies including favors, info, additional storylines, and occasional tangibles like magic items... also, we have animal lovers. Animal lovers hate to kill anything, it seems.

Posted Sep 16, 2021My players are the opposite, the sorcerer in particular. She always seeks a peaceful solution (assuming that the enemy seems reasonable) and has managed to diplomatize her way out of four different combat encounters, so far.

Posted Sep 16, 2021One group of my players are... chaos. They enjoy combat, then always regret it afterwards. They had an ogre enemy called "friend" that they still regret killing, even after months of real life and in-game time.
One character's a bard. Hilarity ensues every session, despite them being in ID: RotF, a horror adventure. They have barely been afraid ever and moments such as throwing a snowball up an ogre's bottom and the infamous song "Me Bob Too, Ooh Ooh Ooh" have been indicators either of how bad a DM I am or how bonkers the players are.

Posted Sep 16, 2021Depends on the group, I guess! My adult groups will usually try to talk their way out of a deadly fight. Because they're not murderers.
