You hurl a mote of fire at a creature or object within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 fire damage. A flammable object hit by this spell ignites if it isn't being worn or carried.
This spell's damage increases by 1d10 when you reach 5th level (2d10), 11th level (3d10), and 17th level (4d10).
Does Fire Bolt never miss?
It is true, Mr. Sauron, that Eldritch Blast is admittedly better than Firebolt for a Warlock, but Firebolt has a greater range than Create Bonfire and Green-Flame Blade combined and deals more damage (4d10 > 4d8). So it might be better suited for the wizard or sorcerer, but it is a better Cantrip that deals Fire damage. Create Bonfire and Firebolt have the same effect of igniting flammable objects, but Green-Flame Blade doesn't. So, is that a good enough explanation, Sauron?
Notably, this is one of the spells that can counter Legendary Resistance to an extent. (By the way, that's a trait that allows a legendary creature to automatically succeed on saving throws three times per day.) Most of the really super awesome spells are saving throws, but 4d10 (Average of 20) damage per round without using a single spell slot is certainly workable. Assuming a creature has 130 hit points, the range of many legendary creatures, that alone would kill in 7 rounds. Fireball and Tasha's Mind Whip are also good, they still deal damage even on a failed save.
You can also use Mind Sliver to wear the creature's Legendary Resistance down, allowing you to pull out your big guns without wasting spell slots. Perhaps, once all that wearing down is done, cast Disintegrate on it at a 9th level slot? That'd deal an average of 97 damage. Even with the health range of a typical legendary creature, it's not gonna have a fun time, and that might even be enough to kill it. As a bonus, it doesn't make death saves if Disintegrate does prove fatal, it just dies.
So yeah, Legendary Resistance countering strategies on the page for a spell which has seemingly no relation in the slightest.
I killed an ogre at 1st level with only this spell.
