I am one of the founders and now the current Board Chair for a small nonprofit based in Edmonton Alberta. We have been running games and helping kids since 2016, we incorporated as a non-profit in 2017. We use TTRPGs to help develop social skills with at-risk youth and disenfranchised populations. We facilitate gaming experiences which allow players a safe space to explore complex social issues and to become more confident, creative, and socially capable. Our Vision: We believe that tabletop gaming has the power to create positive change in our community, and by harnessing the power of gaming; we help others build a better future for themselves.
Unfortunately our Executive Director, as amazing as he is, is run off his feet with a full time job plus running Level up, we are in a position where we could be expanding if we can find him the right support structure to help. What we need are volunteers - we need help running games and we need remote help to fill in some of the administrative gaps we are experiencing.
We need local Edmonton, Ft. Saskatchewan, St. Albert, and Sherwood Park volunteers to help run games. Volunteers would be working with partners and support staff on site to deliver custom designed, intentional gaming experiences for youth. It can be challenging but is insanely rewarding. Volunteers must have reliable transportation and must be able to pass a vulnerable sector criminal check by the RCMP. Volunteers run games weekly, the more we get the less pressure there is to be there every week - of course we understand that life happens and we obviously put a high priority on our volunteers mental and physical health and so we don't expect our volunteers to attend 52 games per year. a typical volunteer gives us 4-5 hours per week as many weeks as they can. Volunteer storytellers (game masters) we are in a position where we can cover some expenses related to mileage and other admin costs associated with running TTRPGs. We have general liability insurance as well and require that our partner organizations are insured and provide onsite staffing to support participants.
We also have a need for some volunteers with specific skills, but this work can be done remotely. We need help with the following areas: web design and maintenance, graphic design, social media management, grant writing, technical writing (editing, proofing, etc.), bookkeeping, accounting, and digital records management. We are estimating that the work load for these positions will be front loaded as we try to catch up and then will level out. Except for the accounting help, which will be seasonal (taxes) and grant writing, which will be heavily influenced on grant availability. We estimate most of these positions will be giving between 4 and 12 hours per month. No remuneration will be provided for these positions, although there is some flexibility for us to write in a percentage administration cost to most grant applications to pay for a grant writer, but grant writers know....
Finally we need Board members, we currently have active board positions open and are looking to find a Board Chair to replace myself (I will stay on as a Board Member afterward). Preference for Board Members will go to people with Human Services experience, non-profit administration/management experience, and other directly applicable skill sets. For the Board Chair we are looking for someone who can motivate and drive our Board to the next level - someone who is good at finding money. We are balancing on the precipice of expansion and with the right funding we could hire our ED full time which would facilitate expansion of services across the province. I am a starter, I am not the person we need to take us to the next level.

I'm bumping this because this is amazing. I don't live in Canada, but I would 100% volunteer if I could in a heartbeat.
