Hello (this is my first thread and my first attempt at a homebrew subclass)
I’ve been working on a new artificer subclass that specializes in the use of a large siege engine and I would love to have som feedback. I haven’t decided on the PILOT SPELLS and the TOOLS OF THE TRAID feature will grant proficiency with smiths tools.
IRON FRAME
By 3rd level, your tinkering has borne you a powerful siege engine, an Iron Frame. See its game statistics in the Iron Frame stat block, which uses your proficiency bonus (PB) in several places. You determine the vehicle's appearance and whether it has two legs or four; your choice has no effect on its game statistics. In addition, you can use your Iron Frame as a spellcasting focus for your artificer spells and while piloting it, you can cast spells as though you occupied the Iron Frame’s space.
If the mending spell is cast on the Iron Frame, it regains 2d6 hit points. If it has been destroyed within the last hour, you can use your smith's tools as an action to reconstruct it, provided you are within 5 feet of it and you expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher. The Iron Frame is restored after 1 minute with all its hit points restored.
At the end of a long rest, you can create a new Iron Frame if you have smith's tools with you. If you already have an Iron Frame from this feature, the first one immediately disappears. The iron frame also disappears if you die.
IRON FRAME (statistics)
Large vehicle
—————————————————————————————————
Armor Class 15 (natural armor)
Hit Points 5 + your Intelligence modifier + 5 times your artificer level
Pilot. The Iron Frame requires a Small or Medium creature to pilot it. While inside the Iron Frame, the pilot has half cover and uses the vehicles speed and action options. If the Iron Frame drops to 0 hit points, the pilot is ejected from it and lands prone in an unoccupied space 5 feet from it.
Siege Weapon. The Iron Frame deals double damage to objects and structures.
ACTIONS————————————————————————————
Eldritch Rend. Melee weapon attack, your spell attack modifier to hit, one target. Hit: 2d4 + PB force damage.
Force Blast. Ranged weapon attack and the pilot can expend a spell slot, ranged 150/600 ft., your spell attack modifier to hit, one target. Hit: 1d6 per level of the spell slot expended + 1d6 + PB force damage.
EXPERT PILOT
While piloting your iron frame, you can ad half your proficiency bonus, rounded up, to any saving through or skill check it makes. In addition, the iron frame has the following additional action options while you pilot it.
Multiattack. The Iron Frame makes two attack.
Stomp. The Iron Fram stomps the ground, causing strong vibrations in the earth within 10 feet of it. Each creature and object in that area, other then the Iron Frame and its pilot, must succeed on a Dexterity saving through equal to your spell save DC or take 1d6 + PB bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone.
FRAME MODIFICATIONS
At 9th level, you learn how to use your artificer infusions to specially modify your Iron Frame. It now counts as separate items for the purposes of your Infuse Items feature: armor (the body), boots (the legs), helmet (the cockpit), melee weapon (the part used to make the Iron Frame’s Eldritch Rend attack), and ranged weapon (the part used to make the Iron Frame’s Force Blast attack) Each of those items can bear one of your infusions, and both the Iron Frame and it’s pilot can benefit from them. In addition, the maximum number of items you can infuse at once increases by 2, but those extra items must be part of your Iron Frame. If an infused item requires attunement, the Iron Frame’s pilot must attune to that item for the Iron Frame to benefit from it.
IMPROVED FRAME
At 15th level, your iron frame gains a +2 bonus to its natural armor. In addition, It’s body naw counts as two sets of armor instead of one, allowing it to bear an additional infusion.
