Okay so, i have seen many and many post about mandalorian but none about make one with the artificer class, certainly beacause this class was not popular when the mandalorian hype began, indeed i saw many threads about forge cleric and ranger or fighter but this classes lack of gadget and real unique armor. For me that's maybe the best class to choose to make a mandalorian, not necessarily the one of the show but, i can say it, i was mostly inspired by our little Mr.Djarin. Before all, i would like to excuse myself because my english is maybe not perfect but i tried to translate this post in a language that most people could read.
So let's begin. First of all, for the race, there is no race should fit better than another, indeed the mandoa is not a species it's a creed so anyone could be a mandalorian.Personnaly i choose elf because of their human apparence, extreme training, clans or great army and also because they can handle weapons like long sword which could give more weapons possibilities (and also because of the darksaber)
Next, there is the background, i think that's different background could fit, you could choose "acolyte" like de vizla's sect and never removing your helmet, more simple just a "soldier" or "mercenary" (depend of the era), and i have something to propose, Mando, like a majority of the mandalorian after the purge, is at the begining just an orphan, so maybe a "child of the street" (that's maybe a bad translate in english XD)
Now the big part, the class, i choose the artificer, and i think that's could be the basic class if you want a mandalorian. By the basic class i want to say that you could/should take a multiclass if you want to specialize in a specific mandalorian (paz vizla, the armorer, mando...)
I asked myself what define a good mandalorian, they have armor, many weapons, a creed, orphans, clans, but above all WEAPONS !!!
In the books to create your character, it is writen that the artificer don't use magic like a sorcerer, they don't just raise their hand a create fire ball, it is writen that they create gadget to conduct magic and cast their spell. So here is the base of our mandalorian, take each of the spell of your artificer and imagine a weapons which could fit, example, "fire bolt" could be a blaster, "create bonfire" a grenade, "magic missile" the missile on the jetpack or "jump" could be a jetpack. So here are our weapons and gadgets.
For the special beskar armor, choose the subclass armorer, take a heavy armor, the strength and the disavantage on discretion (this is in the case you choose the infiltrator) should be deleted and like this your armor could be your second skin and no longer a problem. Moreover you get some more gadget with the different gauntlet, the one of the infiltrator could be ''the whistling birds'' or the ''flame thrower". Here i decide to concentrate more on the infiltrator because of the advantage, the gears and the speed, but if you would like to make a mandalorian more like Paz i recomand the guardian, he's heavier and got a shield. Thanks to that's modification you can make the mandalorian you want. Finally for the armorer, i would like to say that's at a some level you can infuse each piece of your armor, so it's an other way to customize your mandalorian, you can have an helmet that is increase your awarness skill or some boots that's can make you litterally teleport, so many possibility. Oh and the extra attack is a little bonus of your incredible mandalorian's skill. (i'm not sure if you can so don't blame me but, in the tasha's book there's a new infusion to the armor, and you could put it on your to buff it more)
For the infusion, apart of the one which is buff your armor, there's some which are very interested to check. First, the repeating shot, even if you don't have munition for your range weapons you can shoot (good idea if you prefer choose real range weapons to simulate your guns than the spells of which i talked about above), otherwise, for the one who wanted his own light/dark saber and couldn't wait to finally find the legendary item, there is another way, one of the infusion is radiant sword and it fit exactly with waht you could reach for a light saber. Finally for the infusion, i would like to talk about the homonculus servant, this infusion could be different things for the mandalorian. For exemple it could be just a little droid, that is a simple way... but, you could make it your orphan. Either you make him a little child or if you are a fan of grogu, you could make it a flying cauldron with a little sort of gobelin in, without forget that the attack of homonculus servant look exactly like the force push.
For the multiclass, you could take the ranger for the hunter's mark, the rogue for more tricks and skills or maybe a fighter for a mandalorian more "warrior". I don't recommend the barbarian and the monk because of the armor.
So here's my ideas of the mandalorian way as an artificer. I took all my info in the eberron and tasha book so you can check it if you want to complete it. I will post it on reddit too for more feedback.
With the amount of flavour that the Artificer has, one could repurpose any of the subclasses.
The Battle smith would be a cool pairing with the Steel Defender nothing more than a repurposed Roller Droid. Even Alchemist's Elixers could be batteries or ammo packs for certain gadgets (yes RAW is that it has to "drink", but RAI could be "consumed" some other way). easy way to get a Jet pack.
Heck, one could get the All-purpose tool, mount it on the forearm and call it a Mandalorian vambraces which each different cantrip being a different Mandalorian weapon.
Not all Mandalorian make their own armour and weaponry, (Djin Darin for example does not) and so they don't really fit the basic idea of an artificer who invents and builds their own gear. That said, all artificer subclasses, except maybe the alchemist, does work really well for a Mandalorian that DOES make their own gear, so go for it. Take the Acolyte background for that creed part and you're good to go.
If you want a non-artificer Mando, check out Tulok's build on his channel.
Note that many sets of mandolorian armour are essentially family heirlooms passed down so many of the pieces are already there but may be old and might not function initially so they have to be redone as the character grows in skill and power. But yes the artificer is a good class to use if trying to build a mandolorian.

This is the way
I kinda think of Armorer as the subclass for Iron Man, Artillerist as the subclass for the Mandalorian. Shoulder mount that Eldritch Cannon...
With the amount of flavour that the Artificer has, one could repurpose any of the subclasses.

I think a little bit of Paladin would help with the Creed/Oath. But yup, it works as an artificer.
