I had a question on mechanics for my character. It’s more like double-checking I’m on a viable path. With my new shield I have 17 armor (22 via a shield bracelet twice every day). I’m thinking about buying Scale Mail that goes for about 50 gold if/when next available to raise it to 19 (a whopping 24 with the shield bracelet) rather than waiting for my constitution to boost it via unarmored defense in 7 levels.
The only thing is, i was taught barbarians are suppose to get hit in order to protect their allies. While Ancestral Protectors do grant a target disadvantage as well as to deal only half damage while I’m raging, I’m not sure if that’s enough in the thick of things to ensure my allies safety. I mean, if they see a walking tin can when most of my allies are wearing little else, I would think logically that they would go for the latter. (Or will talking like that just give my DM ideas?)
So, my main question is should I use reckless attack with this defensive build?
It’s not about getting hit, it’s about getting attacked, which is an important distinction. And while some DMs will have some (smarter) enemies ignore the barbarian and instead go for the wizard, you can often fix that by placement. Just putting yourself in between the bad guys and your squishy allies is usually good enough. Also with AG you actually kind of force them to attack you, as long as you attack them. In summary, the high AC should be good.

Ok, thanks!
