“The benefits are based on the environment you chose for your Storm Aura.“
I just noticed this line in the handbook - it definitely limits the Storm Herald knowing that you have to stick with the same environment for all of your class features.

That's why I'm inclined to have the Storm Herald be able to switch terrain type once per long rest.
I would be irritated quite a bit to know that I could change terrain type, but just need to wait for leveling up. This makes this subclass too iffy for me. The benefits are already pretty limited and well balanced but taking advantage of damage type resistance should be a little bonus that they are entitled too as Heralds of the Storm. Now they feel a little more like Servants of the Storm.
I feel like the ability to change terrain type at level up is about right. Given that the DM can always offer encounters that showcase the character's features, there is no need to give the player the kind of flexibility that makes it hard support them.
also, there is no rule against having picked a terrain that offers suboptimal performance and roleplaying it out.
Sorry for the thread Necromancy but can someone explain why it would be overpowered/unfair to allow the Storm Herald to change their aura on a Long Rest? Considering the current class feature playtest adds so much flexibility to so many other elements of classes (letting Sorcerers change spells out on a Long Rest for example), it sees like letting the Heralds adjust their aura on a Long Rest would be a minor boon.

Yes. Yes it does. Good discussion.
